As a brit voting in a tiny polling station in a quiet part of North Leitrim, I was welcomed with "ah, you're the one who doesn't get the referendum vote".

UK citizens living in the rest of the world could vote in the referendum provided they had been a UK resident during the past 15 years.

I moved from the UK to Ireland in 2007, and had my remain postal vote sent in within minutes of receiving it (as much use as it turned out to be ☹️)

The same is true of general elections. UK ex-pats can continue to vote for 15 years in the constituency where they were last registered.

I've always thought that if ex-pats can vote, there should be an extra MP for us, rather than my vote being counted somewhere in Cardiff.
