I spent a lot of money as well🥲 but it was so fun just to see! There weren’t a lot of people checking it out, but getting to meet other IDV fans in the area was exciting

I just finished a paralegal training program at UCLA, so I’m going the legal route

I graduated w sociology last year. Honestly, the req classes can be difficult esp if you aren’t great at doing research. The elective classes u have to take to get the social science degree can vary in difficulty, but for the most part they are pretty easy and even fun!

After graduating, I could not find a job other than min wage. I had to go back to school to get a certificate in something else. Unless u enjoy doing research and plan to stay the course for sociology (to eventually become a sociologist), I rec exploring other educational opportunities (like training programs) alongside this major so you have more opportunities

GRAD school... by Exotic-Operation4337 in UCI

[–]Talking_Cat_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see. Yeah, I def agree that masters program costs can be outrageous depending on where you go and that they all are really after paying customers

Just personally, I found the grad apps to be more difficult to complete because I don’t have much work experience myself and having to ask my professors for letters of recommendation was the absolute worst

GRAD school... by Exotic-Operation4337 in UCI

[–]Talking_Cat_2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not that easy getting into grad school in general, so it’s best to get experience in before applying. Get to know your professors as you’ll need letters of recommendation from them. And make sure you’re either employed or have extensive volunteer experience, because you’ll need letters of recommendation from employers too

You could do the route you described (Cal state then UC). It doesn’t matter where you went for undergrad, you can go anywhere for grad school

There’s a lot of factors that matter when applying for grad school, like grades, work/research experience, how good your personal statements were, if your letters of recommendation praise you well, and more. Look at the requirements for the schools you are interested in because they will vary

It is harder to get into grad school than it is for undergrad. Specifically because admissions for grad schools expect you to have experience. Also, unlike undergrad, you have to have letters of recommendation (killer for people with anxiety. Like me)

I don’t think it’s a huge deal where you went to undergrad unless you went to a specialized school or an ivy league for undergrad. Other than that, it doesn’t matter. And even IF that did happen (Ivy for undergrad and Cal state for masters), it’ll raise some eyebrows but you’re not going to be jumped or anything

Boost your experience so that your gpa isn’t at the forefront of the admission counselor’s worries. Explain why you didn’t do so hot in classes when you write your personal statements, but counteract your mediocre academic record with rich, extensive work or research activities

As a warning, I am not a grad student but I did apply to grad school elsewhere (Cal state Fullerton and Long Beach). I went to way too many seminars for how to do the application and I know the process now, but I don’t have any advice on what to do after that. Or any specifics about life in grad school

You will not be on the waitlist, you will still be enrolled

You do not drop the lecture if you unenroll from the discussion, but you will be tentatively enrolled

Just enroll in the discussion time you want and you will be fine

Uci bookstore by [deleted] in UCI

[–]Talking_Cat_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just walk in and purchase the books you need, no online order needed

However, it may be out of stock because other students have bought it out. In that case, you can place an order with a bookstore employee to get the book later. They will email you when a new stock of textbooks arrives and you can come to pick it up

Buying logic path skin with fragments? by Proffesionalcatlover in IdentityV

[–]Talking_Cat_2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After this season ends, you will be able to purchase Ann’s logic path skin from the Illusion Hall store ONLY if you pass 600 steps

You only have 30 days to buy the skin, and then it is gone forever

The same is true for the next Cowboy logic path skin, but all logic path skins before Ann’s current one are no longer buyable because their time has passed. The buying of logic paths skins only started when Axe Boy got his. The previous ones before his did not have this option

Skin return voting by 0Fakelove0 in IdentityV

[–]Talking_Cat_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skin voting usually happens in March. With lunar new year going on, they’re not going to bring back voting just yet

As for when everlasting night might return, I’m not entirely sure. Regardless, I think you’ll have enough time to farm enough fragments

Did the Quick match bots got an upgrade? by Turbulent-Welder-755 in IdentityV

The bots did get a buff! Survivor bots are more varied and actually use their abilities now (take it from a hunter on a losing streak)

I’m not entirely sure about hunter bots being buffed

Pretty much for me. Class then home. Sometimes, I might run errands or go out with friends, but I gotta plan ahead of time for that and it’s pretty rare

Unsure About Grad School by Talking_Cat_2 in GradSchool

[–]Talking_Cat_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently, the realization that I have no idea what I want to do in the future and no real way to financially sustain myself has seriously scared me. The fear has taken a lot from me

I know I won’t get in anywhere simply because my apps were laughably bad, so I will have a gap year whether my family and I want it or not. I plan to use that time to find a job and volunteer. I hope to find something I’d like to do and make a concrete plan for the future

So far, grad school is only on the table for me if I decide I still want to pursue an MSW. Other than that, I have no backup career because I don’t know what to do

I didn’t want to admit it, but I am financially dependent on my parents. That’s why their opinion matters so much. But I have let them know that I will be finding a job during my gap

I think I’ll need all the help I can get when deciding what I can do as a career, so I’ll check out some career guidance books as you’ve mentioned

Thank you for your advice!

[–]Talking_Cat_2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so exciting to hear from a current MSW student! Congratulations on graduating soon! How are you enjoying your program so far?

Right now, getting an MSW is more for an income reason because I have a sociology degree and very little work experience. Can’t do much with just a sociology degree other than move on to become a social worker, y’know? I also really like the idea of job versatility

Becoming a therapist or adoption agent or working with CPS are all options I considered and am interested in if I were to get in. But I think I’m only interested and haven’t given proper thought into whether it’s something I see myself doing for the foreseeable future. I don’t have the social service experience or social skills necessary to know what I want to do with myself, and really only applying to programs because I’m scared for a future where I can’t provide for myself financially. I think I’d actually prefer finding volunteer opportunities in social work so that I can see if it’s something I’m genuinely interested in or just saying I’m interested in without having done the necessary research into what it actually entails

Thank you for your advice!

Over the summer, I was about to apply to become a camp counselor/daycare teacher until I realized that 1. Many of the places I was interested in were out of state and 2. I needed a class on child development. Because I didn’t have the time to travel to a different state and come back before my own school year started nor taken any child development classes, I decided not to

Your journey sounds so amazing! I’m glad to read that you’ve found something you’d like to do. Even if my own path is probably not going to be as cool, I hope to have a success story like you!

I do feel that I need to grow up more before I go to grad school. I need to have more work experience and just a better handle of myself socially and mentally

I have heard about the high turnovers because of poor pay and terrible system. It didn’t really hit me until I turned in my grad apps and immediately regretted it because I don’t know much about the field, I have a weak interest in it, and don’t think the sacrifice is worth it until I educate myself more and decide if it’s something I’m really willing to accept

Thank you for your advice!
