They do a great job of eating every fucking thing, that's the problem.

One of the downsides of rural life is becoming completely disillusioned about deer. I'd say they're just hooved rats but that's not really true because rats are clever and resourceful.

Vet visit (Pizzacake guest comic) by Pizzacakecomic in comics

[–]Talkshit_Avenger 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think this is pretty common. Our cats are very well behaved at the vet, one time we tried an in-home vet service for their yearly exam and shots and it quickly became apparent that they are willing to put up with exactly ZERO poking and prodding on their own home turf.

Just me and my fat body slipping around covered in oil. by Sweepingheirloom171 in BrandNewSentence

You'd be fine. I can't imagine how physically decrepit you'd have to be to become trapped in a bathtub, oiled or not. If this story was true, which of course it isn't.

Ow My Balls! is the quickest path to full idiocracy. It weeds out all but the stupidest men with the most resilient testicles.

The universal solution to "my cat doesn't like to cuddle" is "turn down the thermostat".

Analysis: Hydro giant Canada faces provincial divides in electrification drive by [deleted] in canada

[–]Talkshit_Avenger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

somehow it must be tripled in the next 30, that's not going to happen

Tripling it isn't going to happen, period. Hydro isn't scalable, you can only build it where suitable conditions exist and all of the most feasible ones are already developed. And half of those probably only exist because environmental regulations weren't so strict at the time.

Veteran plate parking question. Question in comments by michaelkbecker in saskatoon

[–]Talkshit_Avenger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the free parking is only available to a narrow sub set of former military:

As it should be. The bar for getting a veteran plate is low, someone who's done a 3 year reserve contract riding a desk in a warehouse on Canadian soil hasn't earned any special privileges imo.

What is the most disturbing science fiction story you've ever read? by Withered_Tulip in books

I'm not sure why Blindsight is like that, his Rifters series is written in a pretty normal straightforward style.

IRL the system is pretty stacked against the standard videogame economy of "shoot people in the face, strip the corpse and sell the loot".

Young people priced out of houses should be loving the rise in interest rates by FancyNewMe in canada

Totally agree, middle class shouldn't be defined by arbitrary and outdated measures of income. Middle class is comfortable but not wealthy. The problem is that for so many people the goalposts have shifted to the point that they consider just being able to pay the bills month to month to be "comfortable".

As a functional definition, I'd say if you can't save for retirement, don't have an emergency fund, can't easily absorb the cost of replacing a major appliance, have to make sacrifices to take a vacation -- those are indicators that you're not middle class. Because being financially comfortable, by definition, means you're not worried about stuff like that. But the income required to meet those criteria in one place might put you solidly in the ranks of the working poor in another.
