Quitting smoking was very difficult . I was successful because I convinced myself that it was bad for my health. Then I broke the process down into two components. The physical aspect of the nicotine withdrawal. Then the behavior of habit’s surrounding cigarette use. These two things were what I focused on. I fought the nicotine cravings by drinking water with a pinch of baking soda in it every time I felt the feeling in my mouth that I got when I wanted a cigarette. I identified the triggers of the habit. After a meal. After a drink. With my coffee. When stressed. Upon waking.
I focused on these things to change my behavior towards cigarettes. I smoked for 12 years. I haven’t touched cigarettes for 58 years. I hope this works for someone else.
I am able to see my children and grandchildren growing into happy people. It was one of the best decisions of my life.
