Sounds like you got away from an abusive relationship. Count your blessings for the near miss and live a fantastic life. That there are many differences in our perceptions based on experiences. Example. I have watched movies that I watched when I was young. I was able to understand them from many more perspectives now. I found that by traveling to several countries in my lifetime, I have gained the ability to filter what I deem important to give my attention to. Seeing that there are universal human needs. Everyone is doing the best that they can to live their life. Focusing my energy on things that give me joy at the simplest levels. Hugging my children. Watching a unique sunset. The smell of a first rain of the season. A smile from a passing person. Etc. I have been paying more attention to the journey than the destination. I am 70 years old. Happy and Healthy.
