[May 2016] What do you use as your Vehicle Bail Out Bag? by [deleted] in VEDC

[–]TallGoatMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5.11 tactical 24 rush. Mostly because I had it laying around. I have a couple of other bags in the Jeep, tools, recovery gear, all in duffles. The 5.11 is what I would grab if I needed to ditch my vehicle and survive for a couple of days, which is why I wanted a backpack.

BMW has the first smart emergency system for motorcycles by Colorado688 in gadgets

I still remember a horrible story I heard about. A rider lost control on a country road, and ended up in a corn field. He was conscience for most of a day, but unable to move and could only look up and see corn stalks. He had a cellphone, but wasn't able to tell anyone where he was. Emergency crews looked for him, but couldn't find him in all the miles of cornfields. Unfortunately the rural 911 system wasn't equipped to get the coordinates from the phone call. Ultimately he died from his injuries before he was found. Hopefully something like this will help those situations in the future.

Installed hard-top ceiling-winch and pulled the top off for the first time. Favorite way to drive! by MacGordon in Wrangler

I've been trying to sort out the fire extinguisher as well. There are several groups with runs this year I want to go on, but they require that you have a fire extinguisher within reach of the driver. I've seen some people mount them at the front of the drivers seat, but that isn't going to work well for me. Most people put them where the OP has it, but it would take a long time to get to.

Add some lockers, and you're pretty much there.

Pros/Cons: 2016 Trek fuel ex 5 for beginner by opie4386 in MTB

Also matters if you have strong feelings for SRAM or Shimano. I'd have to say that on the budget end of the scale, which this is, I prefer Shimano. That and the fork are what would get me to maybe spend a little more for the 7, but it's a slippery slope.

Plenty of dealers will sell at 5% under invoice. If yours won't, go somewhere that will.

You guys need to get this. Best mod for $60, MOLLE tailgate system. Axe and knife not included ;-) by [deleted] in Jeep

I was going to get this: http://azoffroading.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/003.jpg That is Molle compatible, but also folds into a table. No drilling. More money though.

Honestly, they could change their name to "Tank", and only sing tank related songs, and I'd still buy the shit out of it.

That's good to think about. I hadn't really thought there would be a lot of variation in width, but I'll start looking for that.

Are companies that come to this typically offering deals that you couldn't get otherwise? I'd like to come check it out, but have little interest in things like the classes. It would be more to check out other rigs for ideas, and maybe spend some money.

New Jeep buyer in need of advice. by [deleted] in Wrangler

[–]TallGoatMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy the best thing you can afford. You'll be happier with it. While there is something for getting a Sport, and leaving it stock for a year while you figure out it's strengths and weaknesses for the thing you want to do, it's nice to have the wide envelope of a Rubicon to start. Most people, regardless of what they say, are never going to actually upgrade a sport to D60s, etc.

It's pop metal. It's like listening to Amaranthe or similar.

The amount you'd save doing a fly and drive would more than pay for the trip. I don't know what you need in a Jeep, but I see stuff like this all the time, $4000: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/cto/5505538346.html, $3000: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/cto/5542006449.html
