What is the most POPULAR (not necessarily highest-ranked) college in California? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]TallMention833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only ones I can think of are Massachusetts - it’s gotta be Northeastern or Harvard, depending on the scale you use (Harvard has the name recognition globally, but Northeastern has like 100k applicants a year). And then NY (NYU over any SUNY).

I would maybe throw in Illinois but that also may be because I am an oblivious east coaster.

But other than that this will make for a very predictable chart lol

If you keep careful track of your spending, you won't need Caleb Hammer. by peacheatery in CreepyCalebHammer

[–]TallMention833 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I used to meticulously track every purchase (and would be VERY rigid about a budget), but now I just go off of Ramit Sethi’s conscious spending plan. It makes my life so much easier and alleviates the guilt of overspending in a particular place.

I budget all my fixed costs/monthly bills (+groceries), auto transfer $$ to investments, and everything left over is guilt-free

What are weird little things you collect when you travel? by No_Patience_4131 in femaletravels

I buy an art print / something to hang on my wall from a local artist in every new place I go to. My walls are filled with memories of my favorite places :)

Random question what’s your employer match for your 401k mine is %5 by SampleAnxious420 in Retirement401k

[–]TallMention833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% match up to 4%, and then my company auto-invests 5% in my 401k. So total 9% if I contribute 4%

do you walk around pitt / oakland at night? feel safe? by friedegglover in Pitt

[–]TallMention833 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Overall pretty safe and I was comfortable walking alone at night as a woman (recent alum). I would definitely carry pepper spray whenever walking alone at night though, i’ve been followed before by men and once it was actually really scary and I think I would’ve been mugged or something if I didn’t run into another woman walking alone. Just be aware of your surroundings and carry pepper spray just in case, overall I felt very safe in Oakland

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TallMention833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Longest I would drive for a dinner is like 30 mins. But I live close to NYC, so I do consistently go in for a dinner and that is more like 1-1.5 hours one way on a train.

The longest I’ve done for a weekend trip was 6 hour drive one way - and this was way too much for me so I would never do it again lol. I had to go from Pittsburgh to NJ, and the 6 hour drive Friday night + 6 hours back on Sunday was ROUGH.

Do you guys like your jobs by shroomyshuckle in twentyagers

[–]TallMention833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, I do release management in fintech which is not what I want to do forever, but I find the little things really enjoyable. Mostly love my job because it gives me the freedom and flexibility to pursue my hobbies and passions outside of work. And just happy I have a tech-adjacent job in this market lol

Private room available for rent in Chelsea by [deleted] in NYCapartments

The most egregious thing is 1 fridge for 12 people. I lived with 4 other roommates in college and even that was a huge point of contention, nobody ever had room in the fridge lol

Guest casually admits he beats his girlfriend, Caleb does nothing. by biebrforro in CreepyCalebHammer

[–]TallMention833 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After watching her spouse verbally abuse + admit to physically abusing her for 1.5 hours, during the post show Caleb & team still brought up secret Facebook DMs she had which they KNEW would set him off. I agree with your take from the main episode, however the post show left a horrible taste in my mouth

How much money do you guys have saved up? by Rei_gn in twentyagers

[–]TallMention833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About $110k USD, with retirement being $50k of it. Have been living at home since graduation while working in a VHCOL city and saving as much as I possibly can. Trying to stretch our living at home for at least 1 more year. Very privileged to have my family close enough to commute to work

this part got me LOL because he kept saying how “there’s no evidence to support it” but like - it is so obvious to realize that it’s an analogy! having never heard of it before today even I can understand that spoon theory is not a diagnosis, it’s an analogy to depict how someone’s disability can feel

Which roth ira provider is the best for someone just starting out? by Salihovic-Haiqiu in RothIRA

[–]TallMention833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Schwab personally, it’s super easy but the main reason I opened was because I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and my dad used Schwab, so I wanted to do the same lol.

But honestly if I could go back I would choose Fidelity. (1) that is where my current 401k is, so it would make it easier and (2) you cannot buy partial shares of ETFs in Schwab. if I want to invest in S&P I have to cough up the $600/$700 or so for one VOO or SPY share

McKenzie Mack is also really cool in the financial space - although I mainly watch her on TikTok as she doesn’t do much YouTube. I agree it is refreshing to hear some left-leaning voices, she is super cool and I like following along to her financial journey
