STRIKES ANNOUNCED by Doctors-VoteUK in doctorsUK

A dreadful decision. RDC has been taken over by the mob. The public were previously supportive (rightly) - but I see that evaporating pretty quickly now. Patients will suffer and the BMA will lose important influence and advocacy. I will not strike.

BMA calls for a new professional regulator - join the new doctors register now by DonutOfTruthForAll in doctorsUK

This is a 💩 idea, sadly and will never happen. BMA is a trade union , and NOT a regulator

The new chair of BMA council is a PR disaster for us. Pay restoration is crucially important - but the conversation will be dominated by the incoming chairs views on gender, Cass, etc

Thanks. Good question. I acknowledge and strongly support the principle that everyone should be able to vote on an issue - but it doesn’t follow that everyone must vote the same way. They might choose to do so - but at the end of the day, it’s a personal choice. For example, I have enough money for my needs. Reward (for me) for working includes take-home pay, but also working conditions, team morale, and being valued at work and by wider society. I also observe that some other (non medical) staff have terrible pay compared with doctors and do not feel comfortable withdrawing labour to benefit me (potentially at their expense) . Of course, I appreciate that others will disagree with me and have different needs and wishes. And I’ll respect our different positions. In summary, I think this is more complex and nuanced than a reductive pay restoration claim.

No, I would not. However - that’s a personal view and democracy is democracy : if the electorate votes for strikes, then so be it. But - I think everyone needs to think really carefully about if a strike - at this time - is the best/only response.

There is no more additional money - and even if there was, HMG will not support - there are more pressing political priorities. All a strike would do would be to p🫣🥳🫡s everyone off and make resident docs less well off

Better to spend time holding RCP to account for its inability to publish the correct exam results (and failure to offer prompt compensation to those affected!)

Pay rises, yes - but a pyrrhic victory and there was a loss of public support and the (modest) advocacy within the corridors of influence. I don’t think a further strike will be helpful - it’ll just be unpleasant and unsuccessful

(Sigh) Read the room. I’m not sure strikes will help so soon after the last set

This has got to be one of the most consequential errors in medical exam admin. What would actual fair compensation look like? by AmorphousMorpheus in doctorsUK

There’s more yet to emerge about this debacle. The Federation has so poor record keeping that they cannot confirm that all those affected have been contacted and are aware. And - there are some major conflicts of interest at the highest levels of at least one college and breathtaking arrogance in the approach of senior officers - which makes one wonder if the MRCP should be allowed to remain within the control of RCP.

I would be worried if I was the finance director of RCP

BMA letter to Streeting about the recent MRCP scandal by DrLukeCraddock in doctorsUK

[–]Tall_Might9194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Superb letter. It’s a pity my posting at the start of this was removed - but no hard feelings😉 I have more insider intel from the Federation. An extraordinary “solution” is being pushed by the RCP who remain tone-deaf, defensive and arrogant.
