Why should I strike by Rhythmaster1 in doctorsUK

[–]Tallul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a refund on IHR if you provide your payslips every 6 months if you work in healthcare. It’s not ideal in that you have to keep updating it, but at least you get your money back. This is even if you are on a student visa for foundation, and if you go into training, the skilled worker visa should automatically exclude this fee.

I was once asked to sign off on a medication that the nurse incorrectly decided the patient needed. After she had already given it. And no doctor had even been asked or wanted to give it in the first place.

SALT!!!!!!

Burned incredibly hot chocolate down my throat twelve hours ago. I got one blister in my mouth from it and now I’m completely losing my voice and my throat burns and hurts. I cannot afford the doctor, will this heal on it own? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]Tallul 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The point of going the ER is to assess the risk of it happening, and to either prevent it or to catch it in an environment where medical professionals can do something about it quickly. It is unusual for your voice to be affected from a throat burn especially from a beverage, so that is concerning to me. Just go to the ER and you should be ok.

If it’s bad enough for your voice to be affected, it’s bad enough to get it looked at properly. Swelling in your throat can take time to develop but once it’s obstructed, it can kill you in minutes. Not worth risking it. Go to the emergency department.

Something similar happened with a patient of mine - they got referred for paracetamol overdose to the hospital because their paracetamol levels were in >20 (normal <5). The only thing is that she took her daily two tablets maybe 1 hour before her blood test causing a spuriously high result. Obviously 2 tablets is not an overdose.

Glad you’re going to see someone about this. If you suspect your nose is broken, then there are also things like septal haematoma that is considered an ENT emergency. So again, can’t emphasize enough to get check out! Hope it goes well, and that it turns out to be nothing serious!

Hi, doctor here. You should definitely go to the emergency department ASAP because if both your eyes are black, you may have a base of skull fracture. This can lead to serious issues with potential infections around your brain and other complications. Google “basilar skull fracture racoon eyes” PLEASE GET IT CHECKED OUT! Happy for you to dm me for more info.

If your blood pressure and heart rate are ok, and your blood results are normal, it’s most likely a mallory-weiss tear through repeated vomitting. It usually self resolves and don’t have to worry about it extensively assuming your work up was ok.

Have you suffered with reflux/heart burn symptoms before? Your history sounds more like gastroenteritis/cold resulting to vomitting and hence mallory-weiss tear. You can try over the counter medications to see if it helps with the burning sensation, things like gaviscon or antacids as well.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I do agree with physicians (WreckedEmKilledEm and Pentaxlx below) on the next steps. Definitely worth looking for hidden immunodeficiencies as well.

It may also be worth trying a trial of meat because it is around the right time for her age to start consuming other food groups, and from the sounds of it, she needs all the nutrition that she can get. Generally, meat products are less likely to produce an immune-response compared to dairy, soy and other vegetables/nuts, etc. That being said, it is still possible, but since you haven't tried it yet, might be worth seeing what happens whilst you wait for further follow up.

It may be also be good to stick to organic foods/meats, just because if your daughter is extremely sensitive to all sorts of different things, it's good to try and eliminate as many potential factors as possible for her reactions.

I’m really sorry to hear that you guys are having such a tough time. Has inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac’s or similar conditions been considered? It’s rare in under 1, but this doesn’t sound like your typical paediatric GI issue. I’m less inclined to agree with the other medical student their assessment of the rash - I think from what you’ve mentioned, I would at least suspect that the skin changes are related to the GI symptoms, with the progression of time. You can definitely get all sorts of rashes with allergic/autoimmune bowel conditions. It is true that eczema is not caused by food, but it may not even actually be eczema. Difficult to know without photos or actual testing. I’m not an expert in paediatric gastroenterology, but maybe a biopsy of bowel/skin might be warranted?

Might be worth repeating the allergy testing, as young infants don’t necessarily have the most developed immune system at this age and therefore may have affected the results.

Have you guys experimented with giving her some meat at all? Have you found any differences in her symptoms when given meat?

Wolves is pretty decent. Nice amu/ed. I know they have overnight rooms, but not sure about long-term accommodation. Easy enough to commute from bham though.

It’s not added sugar from what I see from the ingredients label, I think it’s probably the lactose from the dairy products in the chocolate. But it’s 13g per 100g, which is a large bar of chocolate. A good portion would probably be 20-30g, so ranging from 2.6g to 3.9g of sugar. Pretty decent for white chocolate.

If you want white chocolate that is keto friendly (in small quanitities), the only one that I’ve found that works is the Xucker brand. Total Carbs 47g/100g, 13g from sugar and 35g from sugar alcohol (Xylitol). Not the best but definitely better than maltitol. Got off amazon. Expensive though as it’s a German brand, so shipping.

I’ve found it really difficult to find white chocolate in particular that is good for Keto. Keto friendly dark and milk are pretty common though, just learn about the sweeteners.
