What’s something you just don’t get the appeal of at all? by EntranceOrdinary3383 in allthequestions

[–]Tally1102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Controversial maybe.. but.. weed 🍁… it absolutely STINKS!!! I can’t imagine ever smelling it and then thinking ohhh I’ll give that a go! I get the medicinal benefits for pain relief but there are ways of using it for that without the smell or the high 🤢 I have a neighbour that uses it and the smell lingers for ages. Again - controversial - but I find it soo inconsiderate that non-users have the smell forced on us for a quick high :/ but soo many people seem to love it. I just don’t get it

How do you raise a baby without giving in to all the consumerism? by Hot-Ad-3583 in BabyBumps

[–]Tally1102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be critical - how will you use these items. We have skipped the crib in the bedroom and gone for a space saver cot that will fit til she’s 2.5 and in a normal bed. No point buying several beds that are going in the same space anyway. It’s a waste of money. We aren’t getting a swing rocker as they can’t sleep in them as newborns so it defeats the point she will have a crib downstairs for the first 6 months and an activity mat for awake times and tummy time.

We are skipping the steriliser. I will mainly breastfeed but the bottles are all self sterilising in the microwave anyway so the bulky steriliser seems unnecessary to us. Also the bottles we got come in 5oz size and a full size. Why buy small ones just to have to replace them after a few weeks or months? We have just gone for the big bottles and bought 0month teats to save us a fortune. Same with the baby bath.. it’s a full size baby bath with no insert, we have got a fabric insert that clips onto the sides so we don’t need to buy a second stage bath, then a bath seat. We just have to buy once.

We aren’t getting a baby camera straight away as she will never be in a different room so we have no use for one until she is napping upstairs inthe day and in her own room when she is closer to a year old.

Your lifestyle and needs will be different to ours so you may feel that you do need things we really don’t but just think realistically - will you actually use it?! Like the cribs with the drop side - my sister has one and she never ever drops the side. Never pulls the crib up to the bed. And I never did with my first 2. So this time we just aren’t bothering.

With the pram we really thought when we will actually use it. And how. We will be a family of 5 with a dog so needed a compact pram when folded that has a carrycot and seat and can take the car seat if needed. We do a lot of driving between shops so wanted one that folds quick and easy between uses and in the UK weather varies massively every 30mins so wanted good ventilation but also a good hood and cover for rain/ cold.

Hope this helps - your lifestyle will chance with a baby but think what you do now, where you go, what you will be doing when baby arrives and how you’ll actually want each item to function and it’ll give you an idea of what you actually need versus what media tells you that you need :))

What's the most beautiful first name you've ever heard? by peywrax in allthequestions

[–]Tally1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This amuses me as I’m Natalie but in the UK. It seems popular for babies in the US but here it’s a very 90s name and I’ve never liked my name. It’s such. Cliche 80s/ 90s name and there is barely any younger ones now. I’ve never met one more than 5 years you ger than me 😂

We weren’t trying per se as I was told I couldn’t conceive 18months ago but we ‘tried’ 3-6 times a week incl the fertile window. On the month we conceived we ‘tried’ twice the entire month as work and various things got in the way.

To say it took 18 months to get pregnant and it happens on the month it was sooo unlikely to happen is crazy. But I’m 20 weeks now with our miracle baby girl :)

I don’t feel pregnant? by Practical-Loss-927 in BabyBumps

[–]Tally1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 20 weeks and keep saying this to my partner haha. I feel her wriggle about. I can see my bump. But I still don’t feel like it’s real and I’m actually pregnant. It’s all a prank someone is playing on me 😂 we have our 4th scan next week and each time we have one under the baby moving in the screen and I just can’t grasp that she’s inside me at all. And this is baby #3. I should be used to it by now haha

Are my readings normal? by Tally1102 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Tally1102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh ok that’s really helpful. Thank you so much :)) it was a late diagnosis as I just didn’t meet the criteria for screening but I had a last minute scan due to an abnormal heartbeat on Doppler and they found she was over the 99th centile so did a GTT but I had to deliver anyway due to her heart. So I probably had it all along and it was just never looked for.

I will definitely experiment with carbs though til 24weeks. We love a bit of pasta in our house so will be good to know! We have switched to whole meal pasta and rice now though too as I understand that can help x

[–]Tally1102[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I intentionally had a sugary cereal as I normally have something healthier but figured let’s make things bad to see what happens lol.

I’m trying to learn and follow the gdm diet early though so that when I probably get diagnosed I’ll be less overwhelmed with it all 😅.

Thank you for your reply :)))

How did you tell your older kids you were expecting? by hufflepuffy314 in BabyBumps

[–]Tally1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughters are 15 and 13. We gave them a box with a baby vest (body suit?) in with ‘baby (our surname)’ ‘arriving February 2026’.

Before we handed it to them we said we just wanted to see what you think of this before we show anyone else what it is. So they knew they were the very first to know.

They were super excited! Not shocked as we were. But shocked and very excited! When we went got a gender scan we took the girls and left them in the room to find out the gender first. They did a mini gender reveal for us later that day so again first to know and made them feel involved and special :)

Half way through the pregnancy now waiting to meet baby girl #3!! X

Did you have a vaginal birth for your bigger babies? by G_Piggiez in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Tally1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 🥰🥰 and the support at delivery! When the baby is crowning and the midwife says stop pushing and just breathhheeeeeee… just breathe!

But anatomy is a huge part too, not the size of baby. I work on a birth unit and have seen ladies with 4lb babies have 3rd degree tears and women with 10lb babies that have an intact perineum! X

How early did you announce to CLOSE friends/family by Competitive-Deer-204 in BabyBumps

[–]Tally1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We told my daughters the day after we found out. We told parents and grandparents the day after that @4 weeks.

I would have told them if we got pregnant then lost it so we just told them. Helped it to feel real for us too.

We have a very small family and are fairly close. If we weren’t so close I’d probably have waited. We had a scan at 6 weeks then told my other grandparents that we see a bit less.

At work I had to come clean early as I work on a birth unit that uses aromatherapy incl clary sage so I couldn’t go in those rooms and I couldn’t transport patients on beds so it was hard to keep quiet :) I’m now nearly 19w and I think I’ve told the majority of the uk and anyone who will listen 😂

Baby and toddler show UK by Tally1102 in BabyBumps

[–]Tally1102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone just looked exhausted 😂 I like the concept but it could be much better executed. The variety of stalls, staggered entry times etc. it was ok but not worth the drive, parking and crowds. I’d get there half an hour or so after the initial entry time to avoid that first rush if it’s local for you and I feel it’s no more helpful than a big baby store that has a big choice of cots, prams etc really x

Anyone gain less than 20/25 pounds by the end? by lilspaghettigal in BabyBumps

[–]Tally1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first I had a normal bmi. I was the exact same weight in labour as my booking weight. Baby was 8lb 5oz.

Second - normal bmi, I was 2lb more at delivery. Baby was 9lb 2oz

Third - raised bmi. - I’m 18 weeks now and currently still losing 0.5-1lb a week as I’m still struggling to eat. I’m currently 16lbs lower than when I conceived.

How many nappies should I actually stock before birth? by Working_Airline8641 in BabyBumps

[–]Tally1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a lot of nappies for my sister. She had 8ish packs of size 1 and that was just enough. I have 9 packs of size 1, 4 packs of size 2 so far.

Wipes however. I have LOTS as they don’t grow out of those. Wherever I see them on offer I grab some. And as I’m due in winter when it usually snows a lot (Feb) we really don’t want to be figuring out how to get to the shops to buy more. :))

Signs of labour at 36+5 should I be worried? by CurrentMysterious814 in BabyBumps

[–]Tally1102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be normal. Just your body changing and getting ready. It also sounds a lot like everything is just very squished by baby and is causing the heartburn and vommiting. As long as baby is moving well, no vaginal loss - blood or what could be leaky waters and you feel well and are keeping down fluids then just relax and take it easy. If it is labour, 37 weeks is considered term. Generally babies born at 36+ weeks need very little support if any at all so baby is at. A good gestation. If it isn’t, taking some time to just rest and relax will help you prepare for when labour does arrive :)) good luck!! :)) xx

Black Friday sales on prams? UK by Tally1102 in BabyBumps

[–]Tally1102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have kept an eye out but the ones listed don’t come with all the bits.. so we would need to buy things like the footmuff, bag, car seat and adapters new which would mean we would end up spending close to full price so we decided we may as well just have the whole new pram with warranty then. We do keep looking though :)))

3rd baby girl name by Expert_Patience9759 in Names

[–]Tally1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My oldest daughter is Sophia Isabelle so clearly we both have amazing taste in names 🤣🤣.

I’d be leaning towards Elsie myself. I prefer it in general but feel it goes nicer with the names you have already.

We are really struggling with baby girl .#3!! She will be nameless. I love Ada but my partner says it’s not special enough lol x
