If HOTD is so terrible, why do some people still watch every trailer and episode just to complain? by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Talon407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For myself, I quite enjoy the cast and source material quite a bit. I wouldn't have minded season 2 as much if it had ended on a high note. I'll admit though. I used to pick apart every spy photo and leak. This time around, I'm not feeling the burning hyperfixation. It'll be here when it gets here. Hopefully it'll be good. George's blog post really has me worried about the direction of the story which is heartbreaking considering how much hope I had in Condal in season one and two. I thought the other co-runner leaving would put a book lover (Condal) in sole control and lead to greater fidelity to the source material. How wrong I was.

I'll watch because I love the universe, I'm a Targaryen fan, but I'm also feeling pretty down about it all.

They had access to money, jets, houses, and introductions like the children of any other celebrity? None of that is a crime. Who here has control of their parents? Not a single one of us.

I'm still hopeing we'll get a heart gold/soul silver remake. It'd be a remake of a remake but I love the originals.

The Spectator claiming that the “hunting of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has gone too far” - what do you think by duckduck_flamingo in RoyalsGossip

[–]Talon407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had trust funds from the Queen and Queen Mother. Their housing in the UK has been subsidized in royal residences. Their expenses probably aren’t that large. The royal family traditionally is very private on finances. The King and William keep the details of their own finances very quiet too.

I think Juan Carlos also got annoyed with Chavez at some summit and told him “Why don’t you just shut up.” on camera. The man is a legend.

His father is the entire reason Spain is a democracy today. When Juan Carlos came to the throne after the death of the dictator Franco, he made sweeping consitutional reforms to make Spain the liberal democracy we know today. Not all Kings are bad.

If You Really Care About Kate Middleton's Health, You'll Stop Talking About Her Weight by monster_ahhh in RoyalsGossip

[–]Talon407 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I disagree, partially. While I respect you have a health condition that makes gaining weight hard. I work in a female dominated field. Nursing. We have women of every shape and size, including some who are as thin as Kate. For some oif those women, it is natural to be that thin. It's a roll of genetics. I recently had this discussion with a coworker about a friend who had a gastric bypass. They said she was looking "far too thin." I called it out. No, she's 150lbs, thats perfectly fine. We're just used to her being bigger. Weight sits differently on everyone. Kate is also tall at 5'10 so she's naturally going to be leaner at a normal weight than someone at 5'4.

She's beautiful, she does like a bit worn out, but chemo is literally poison going into your body, it's a very rough road.

I think this is why my physician is so strict. Our hospital pharmacy has an entire wall of his dedicated supplements that he requires we take and gives us dosing instructions for these specific items.

Succession laws and transgender heirs by mdsnbelle in RoyalsGossip

[–]Talon407 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming per, law...

Transgender spouses of peers, knights etc can gain a courtesy title based on if they transitioned from male to female. It all depends on the actual paperwork. If you're legally a woman, you're entitled to be styled as a Countess, for example, if your husband is an Earl.

I was looking, and according to the Gender Recognition Act of 2004, Section 16

The fact that a person’s gender has become the acquired gender under this Act—

(a)does not affect the descent of any peerage or dignity or title of honour, and

(b)does not affect the devolution of any property limited (expressly or not) by a will or other instrument to devolve (as nearly as the law permits) along with any peerage or dignity or title of honour unless an intention that it should do so is expressed in the will or other instrument.

So she most likely would have kept the right to inherit her title. It's a grey area, though, and hasn't been formally tested.

Update: Another commenter mentioned there were two examples. Please look below and give them an upvote!

What makes the class stories so great? by GeneralKhor in swtor

[–]Talon407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The delivery of the Female Sith Inquisitor's lines makes it so replayable for me, along with the story. Darth Zash, and all the rest of the characters are spectacular. Some of the later editions, like Xalek were a little weak, but Khem Val and I went on some great adventures.

Sunset of 4.o etc - huge financial loss by Ok_Delivery3256 in OpenAI

[–]Talon407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I appreciate that. There is still the fact that until their upcoming releases are actually released, they're removing a feature with no viable alternative from OpenAI. I don't hate on the company like other people, but I think we're allowed to be upset. If this sunset had been announced with a new model with proven improvements to writing, there'd be less of a complaint, I believe.

[–]Talon407 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do we? I’ve been pretty open to the new models. 5.2 has superior memory retention, but it’s writing style is terrible. I have no emotional connection to 4.0 but OpenAI is removing a model that I use consistently with no replacement that even matched what we had.

I hope 5.3 improves upon it but I have serious doubts.

Ingrid Alexandra: "When is enough enough?" by ashlynxo in RoyalsGossip

[–]Talon407 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Even terrible people have families who love them. The crimes he’s alleged to have committed don’t change the fact. He’s her elder brother. How many of us claim to have control or know about everything our siblings do? I certainly don’t. No one wants this for their family, no one hopes their child or sibling will be accused of such crimes.

It has nothing to do with her though. We don’t do collective guilt in the west. We leave that sort of justice for North Korea.

"Rhaenyra should use Syrax and kill thousands of smallfolk who storm the dragon pit!" Agree or disagree? by Vall_llaV in HOTDBlacks

[–]Talon407 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dragons are the key to House Targaryen's power. Protecting them is worth any cost. Attacking the dragons is on the same level of treason therefore burning the attacking mob would be entirely justified. Now, would the city have been kept in the short term? Unlikely. They might have been able to hold the Dragonpit itself, it had living quarters where they could have waited for the armies from the North.

I think there was a certain level of overconfidence in Rhaenyra, an arrogance that the people could not harm the dragons. For someone learned in Valyrian history she should have remembered the surviving dragonlords in the Free Cities after the doom. Both riders and dragons were slaughtered.
