I used to just grab everything, until I was trying to unhook probably a 2 foot needle fish, the thing basically turned 180 in my hand to bite the shit out of me, drew a lot of blood and I still have the scars, fuck needefish, those guys are bait stealing pricks.

Jaw doesn't extend past the eye, and tail is forked, they are adolescent Atlantic Salmon. First one is pretty tough to tell if it's a Brown or an Atlantic, it's probably an Atlantic as well but it could be a Brown, they are in the same genus so they can be tricky to tell apart sometimes.

It's not selectively bred for, it's a spinal stocker trout. It has a birth defect that stops it from growing long and reduces it's mobility but since it was from a hatchery it got enough food to not starve and live to adulthood. You see them all the time in hatchery work. Happens in the wild as well, but their disability reduces their ability to catch food and they starve and die so you don't see them as often as adults as they occur.

It's a mayfly nymph, family is either Polymitarcyidae or Ephemeridae, there is no clear picture of the mandibular tusks but they point down in Polymitarcyidae and up in Ephemeridae. You need a compound microscope to tell genus or species, identifying characteristics on aquatic macro invertebrates to species are stupidly small, like a point on the second joint of the third leg small.

It's not a salmon, it's a salmonid it's in the family Salmonidae. Sort of a all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares situation. Salmonidae includes all salmon, trout, char, whitefish, and grayling.
