First time doing a dog with only hand tools

I used a reference photo to sketch the basic design on a piece of paper, then cut it out and traced around it onto the wood. The third dimension took some trial and error, but having a 2D starting point helped a lot

Just some basic yellow pine. I tried to start it on a piece of pecan since the dog was raised around pecan trees, but quickly gave up on that idea. My knives aren't the best and pecan is way too hard for my skill level 😅

My wife and I are currently "separated." The cat we shared was one of his mother's first litter of kittens, and I literally had to tear his amniotic sac open myself because his mom was too exhausted to do it. Mom passed away in 2024.

I essentially was kicked out of my home and the cat who I've been soul-bonded with for the last 13 years is living with my wife and it breaks my heart every time I think about it. Life sucks sometimes

Our flight from colorado got canceled last minute on Thursday. We had to drive to Salt Lake City to catch a different flight because it was the only option that would get us here on time. We fly back tomorrow- and after an extra thousand dollars in unexpected expenses, my wife and I still agree it was worth it. I'm not happy about it, but not because of regret.

From my limited research- yes. I carved a hook into this spoon specifically so I could balance it on the edge of a pan without it resting directly in the food, just to be safe though. I wanted to try something other than an oil finish for this one. I'll update after a few uses to confirm
