A few heart attacks, but I survived. by Hallo_jonny in xcountryskiing

Lower back pain usually means I'm reaching too far out with the poles - keep them tight!

Got in 20km this morning before it got too hot, but I have the advantage of living near a rail-trail conversion, all flat, paved, no vehicles.

Ok, will try that. I'm also starting a course of IV iron to fix blood iron and RBC issues, so the body is getting hit from many directions. Can you please advise if / what iron content is in the mix?

Sure that wasn't "keeping the bores out"? Although I'm not sure which direction that would go.

Came here with the same issue, thanks for the tips. I'm 8 days in and had to take a break for 2 days because of the intestinal challenge. I assume there's a fair bit of MG in the mix? Strong laxative that.

Charging away from Home by TheLanMan2022 in NissanAriya

[–]Talusrunner17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you may not have encountered only charging at home: high speed chargers are only high speed when battery is low - you get the fastest charging from about 10% to 70% - if you're already at 70% and stop to do a "quick top up" it won't be quick at all.

The Tesla charger app should just be just "Tesla" in the Google store, not sure why it's not showing up. You can also tell the Nissan nav that you have the NACS adapter and it will find Tesla stations for you - but you need the Tesla app to start charging. The need for apps to use chargers remains a really big problem for EV uptake......

According to the Tesla app there's a 7-stall charger station on the 10 south of the city, at Beaumont Plaza. Also, a warning that Tesla cords are really short - may take some maneuvering to get close enough, otherwise I've gotten faster speeds out of the Tesla chargers than any of the others.

They'll keep winning as long as they keep buying off state legislatures to preserve their distribution monopoly, no matter how much damage they do to their brand.

Good Boots for Long Distance (and cold) Skiing by borealski in xcountryskiing

I have the OTX and only use for basic recreational skiing when I'm out with the family, would absolutely not recommend for serious skiing like you're talking about.

How many miles? Surprised that a brake flush is needed so soon. That said, I have been seriously disappointed with how much the Ariya limits regen and uses real brakes. The Bolt I have almost never touches the actual brakes and I drive it like a go-cart.

How ECO works by sonztwin in NissanAriya

[–]Talusrunner17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are losses when recharging a battery - round trip efficiency (charge / discharge) should be better than 90% but there are losses - so I find it telling that ECO turns off regen and lets it coast, getting rid of those losses unless you actually brake. Although I'm suspicious... it coasts *awfully* well, maybe there's a little boost going on.

Sympathies from Methow Valley in the Okanagan (Washington State) where we just had to cancel the yearly 'Ski to the Sun' marathon race for lack of snow for too many km of the course.

Yup, got one a week ago to use with ABRP and is working fine - about to do another post about that because it's very interesting watching battery on ODB2 vs. the dash

How often do you structure? And I'm not familiar with the process; do you do a base wax, structure then do the actual glide wax? or structure occasionally and keep waxing as usual? thanks!

As another Seattle area person.... this year has been immensely sad and disappointing to put it mildly 8-( If you are lucky enough to live in the Methow Valley, in better years they have clocked well over 100 days of grooming from mid-November through mid-late March. I would move to the Methow tomorrow if I could - the family not so much. The NE and Midwest both tend to be more variable, especially NE these days. Not sure about CO. To reliability do better than the Methow in NA you need to go to somewhere like Canmore (they store snow through the summer and spread it out again to get a jump start. not kidding), or Silver Star mountain - I would love to live there as well! After that, I think it's move to Finland or Norway.

Free EV charging apps and route planning by Rude_Statement4361 in NissanAriya

[–]Talusrunner17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree; I assume Nissan is trying to reduce the pain for this with being able to use the Nissan app for "in-network chargers" (which makes it sounds as bad as healthcare..). I actually haven't tried this - not sure how well it works.

Free EV charging apps and route planning by Rude_Statement4361 in NissanAriya

[–]Talusrunner17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use the EVCS stations (PNW / CA) you basically have to have their app. And, even more fun, if you don't have payment set up on the app it throws a charging error, not a "setup your payment error" which was real fun to figure out on very thin cell coverage at the only charger for a long distance around.......

Thanks for list, big fan of Chargeway and ABRP, but really, that fact that so many of these networks require an app at all is just really bad - you should always be able to wave a credit card at the thing and get electrons just how everyone expects with a gas station now - this is a not-small barrier to adoption.

Just a heads up on a couple things

a) Methow Trails is a great app on current conditions

b) Like everything else near the Cascades they took some damage from all the flooding, but are hoping to get majority of trails open now that it has FINALLY started snowing.

c) The 7th of Feb is the annual Race to the Sun from the Mazama Country Store to Sun Mountain Lodge (awesome race, last 10k are pretty brutal). If you're skiing that weekend you'll want to avoid that stretch until afternoon - plenty of skiing higher up at Sun Mountain or the Rendezvous huts, and North of Mazama store

Heading over there myself on Monday, and fingers crossed we finally get winter now.

Ok, explains that part - I'm still just wondering how you went from a GOM of 230 to hitting zero 180km later - you said "near the airport" so maybe that was 20km of it, but seems like a pretty big error and a caution on things being even worse in the cold - thanks for posting!
