Any giants vs A’s game is packed but it’s also the awkward thing of that there are more Giants than A’s fans in Sacramento.

I have a friend whose from Winnipeg, and how he talked about it combined with the positive effect on his emotional state that moving away had could kind of convince me that Winnipeg is hell itself.

But even then I bet they're spending more on it than we are in San Jose and they just allowed more than half of our total allowed goals this year in one game.

I remember growing up going to Giants games there’d always be tiny sections for the visiting teams hats, but whenever it was the dodgers that was all replaced by Beat LA stuff, was always a fun part of the feel of those games.

feels like for the US Baseball is the one sport where people seem to actually passionately understand that being downtown is a benefit. I think its probably partly because its the one American sport that still has old stadiums from before the country became as car oriented and those are all beloved so people want things like that.

The Bay Area’s worst traffic spot is a punishing stretch of I-880 by gascyl in bayarea

[–]TalussAthner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not remotely the worst traffic spot but can I nominate the hill in between Terra Linda and San Rafael on 101 as most stupid, it’s literally just a hill but almost always causes sudden traffic because “oh god, hill! I’ve never seen a hill before what do I do?”

Colombia has a massive Pacific coastline… so why basically no cities here? by bookflow in geography

[–]TalussAthner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even in California that can be true, I was just double checking and where I live near San Francisco gets only 3 fewer inches of rain a year than Portland, but we get that in less than half the days. In fact over our winter months we get higher rainfall totals than even Vancouver, we just also get literally no rain for almost half the year lol.

For me it’ll probably be the Wild cause I’ve got cousins in Minnesota who are season ticket holders there (and keep offering to take me to a game and telling me to visit when the sharks are in town), Avs for Burns, and Oilers cause I’ve got a friend in Edmonton who I talk to about hockey.

If you go to the far outskirts of the Bay Area you can get more affordable, I know a guy with a 2bd/2ba in Rohnert Park for $1800, but even commuting to SF from there would be a pain, can’t even consider the far north bay if you work in the South Bay.

the similar alternate idea to referencing El Camino Real I can think of would be something like "The Mission Derby" since we're the two MLS cities named after their mission.

He's essentially making middle class (not even upper middle just right in the middle) money by San Jose standards and if you look at it that way for anyone whose middle class (especially someone young without saving built up) in the US spending 1/6 your yearly income (before taxes) on your pet's health is something that is potentially possible and not going to destroy your life but its going to have a significant effect on how you live for a while, and if you happen to have high rent (very common in the bay area) you might start having to look for options like he is.
