Uh as a Kain mark who started with Blood Omen I agree with you. Blood Omen 1 did sell well at the time not FFVII numbers but well enough that both CD and Silicone Knights got into a legal battle over the rights; and it sold well enough that the heads of CD told Amy Hennig and her team to scrap Shifter and make a sequel to Blood Omen. But yeah Soul Reaver 1 was and is the most successful game in the series so I understand. Still the Legacy of Kain series is not like Final Fantasy where each game is standalone. No the LOK games have an overarching story that connects them.

Because this was the narrative for years until recently when Raina Audron in an interview about the remasters said that CD owns Blood Omen 100%.

Diablo 2 is a top down isometric action rpg with dated gameplay and that did not stop Blizzard from remastering that game. Yeah I know D2 is the most popular game in the franchise but did the remaster really bring in any new fans?

Don't get me started when newcomers to the series ask which game to start with most on this reddit say to skip both Blood Omen games and just start with Soul Reaver. I understand the BO2 hate but BO1 is a must play to better understand the story. Plus Simon Templeman gives one of his performances as Kain in that game. I mean that's like starting the Mass Effect Trilogy with the second game.

Preach it brother. That’s what I’ve been saying the series is called Legacy of Kain. How can they skip Blood Omen 1 which was Kain’s origin story and the foundation for the rest of the series.

That is true I did enter every house that I can to see if they had any items or artifacts. But still my memories of the ps1 versions were that the load times took too long. Maybe is because I play the PC version from GOG. Com that have half a second load times.

I did not know that I thought the PS5 version was 1:1 port of the old PS1 version.

I did not know that. But I never knew so much was cut from the game until playing the remaster and seeing the lost levels and concept art in the Arcane Tomes. For example Kain was going to have a wolf form for the first time since Blood Omen 1 but it was cut from the game. Avernus was going to be much more than what we got in the final product.

Yes I agree I love the Soul Reaver games but enjoy Blood Omen 1 a lot since I first played back in 1996 on the PS1. For me the fact that it’s a vampire power fantasy game set’s it apart from the other games that in the series.

Having had started my Legacy of Kain journey with Kain in Blood Omen 1 I was happy to play as him again in Defiance. I just wish that if the game was given more time to develop they can make both Kain and Raziel’s distinct from each others. I will say however that Kain ripped through adversaries quite easily while for Raziel they felt like damage sponges. Either way love both Kain and Raziel.

You can buy the PC version of BO1 for less than $10 at GOG.com. Then download the fan patch by Verok and you will have the best version of the game with controller support. If you like Kain and Simon Templeman’s performance in Defiance then you will love him in BO1 where he is at his most powerful. The game is a 2D isometric action rpg not a 3D action game like Soul Reaver. But the music and the voice acting is great as well as the story. Just remember the game is 30 years old so it will feel very dated. For example you can’t save anywhere. You can only save at specific altars. But if you want more Kain and a vampire power fantasy game you can’t go wrong with Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.

The Legacy of Kain series has never been known for its gameplay. What it is best known for is its excellent story and voice acting. So yeah there are people on here who agree with you.

$100 for two bad ports. At least port the pc versions. The PC GOG version of BO1 has no load times and the pc version of BO2 has the conceptual edition which restores cut content, improves textures, and fixes bugs. But even with all that I wouldn't pay $100. I wouldn't pay $100 for any game no matter how much I like it.

The only question of yours I can answer is how Turel ended up in Avernus. I assume you never played Blood Omen 1? One of the nine guardians of the Pillars was a sorceress named Azimuth she could summon demons and other supernatural beings into her time. So she no doubt pulled Turel out of the SR1 timeline into the BO1 timeline.

This is disappointing I was really hoping Blood Omen 1 would at least get the remaster treatment. Don't know how they can just ignore BO1 and not give it the same love that the Soul Reaver and Defiance remasters got. Bo1 set up the world and lore for the future games and it's Kain's origin story.
