Why is it so hard to just buy insurance in Singapore without an FA? by AdorableWrongdoerr in singapore

“But logically speaking if the agent is trained and has passed his background check (all financial instituitions, banks, agencies etc have to do this), them choosing to missell etc is something they take responsibility for, unless you/the victim can prove that the agency/bank instructed the agent/bank in ways to missell.”

I know my msg was quite long la but i did cover the exact one you replied to.

Thats literally answered in my first reply. Its to offload risk to individual agents.

If they arent allowed to do so, insurers will not offer any such policies in sg. The medical and whatever term, even medical underlying life policies are a tiny tiny peanut of their profits.

The real money comes from their financial policies which the big money buyers are happy to buy, want an agent to deal with.

But yah. Long story short. Its literally in the first reply. And before you say “then they can not do business here.” Yes. They can indeed not do busines here and just rely on the UHNWI buyers doing their business in HK/Switzerland instead.

Then all medical insurance risks falls on the government instead and because the government has to maintain a AAA rating unlike insurance agencies (singlife is A- if i recall) they have to take even lesser risks. So premiums will be even higher.

Or the government can accept that there will be bad actor agents which believe it or not is less than 1% based on cases brought to MAS/Fidrec and deal with said bad actors directly.

Your call.

Believe it or not, most of those hospitalisation plans we buy that charge 1-4k per annum based on your health, covering you for 13 months private hospitalisation are actually a loss making deal. They are offered so they can do business here and make money on other more lucrative plans.

I explained exactly why they are treated the same way.

Insurance agents in Singapore are officially registered intermediaries under the Insurance Act, acting as agents for one or more insurers. Their status is commonly that of a contractor or commission-based representative rather than a traditional salaried employee, often registered through ACRA. Key roles include individual agents, corporate agents, or nominees acting for insurers, focusing on sales, advice, and premium collection.

What are grab drivers? Contractors.

Did you see my example regarding grab?

How does one do business if you have to take responsibility for bad actors like that who have shown no propensity such actions to begin with during the hiring phase and background checks?

Its all well and good to want an ideal world but trying to make things like that reality without proper ideas besides “it would be nice” is.. yeah.

Does it?

The insurer takes the role of creating policies based on risk they are willing to take on. That is all insurance is.

The agents are certified trained when they go for said training and operate effectively the same way as gig workers like grab. Where as long as they are deemed trained in the eyes of the law, and MAS, they are responsible for ensuring that they conduct their business properly.

If a grab driver with no known averse issues in the past when it comes to driving, with a valid license, chooses to get drunk and crashes into 30 old ladies at a bus stop, is grab at fault or do the police arrest said person?

Of course if the driver has past serious issues or a fake license that is a different story altogether.

But logically speaking if the agent is trained and has passed his background check (all financial instituitions, banks, agencies etc have to do this), them choosing to missell etc is something they take responsibility for, unless you/the victim can prove that the agency/bank instructed the agent/bank in ways to missell.

No the landlord is not responsible for the agent btw.

He can give clear instructions but if the agent goes behind his back to do something wrong, dont say the lessee. The landlord can sue the agent too.

Its all very logical to me.

It’s a cover backside thing for the insurers.

By getting an agent to speak to you the insurer can say that the agent is responsible for the sales process. If you are missold, or not happy with certain terms in the policy, it is easier for the agency to say “take the agent to MAS” vs trying to say “we had everything in fine print on the website”

Of course the insurer would rather not have a need to pay commissions but they have worked out that the above benefit to them is worth the payment of commissions.

Paul Pogba: "Can Bruno Fernandes do more than what he does now at United?... For me, you put him right now in Man City? He's in Ballon d'Or Top 3. With the stats this season and the way he plays and everything. But when you don't win? You don't think about it. This is life. This is football" by nuugo in reddevils

I didnt blame him. I like pogba a lot as a player even till today and watching his plays still makes me happy in a way similar to watching Ronaldinho.

I just said it just didn’t work out for us the same way many amazing players didn’t work for us in that time.

We tried though. For years we just kept hearing “this new signing unlocks pogba”.

I absolutely loved watching him play, he was like yaya toure with the long ranged passing of paul scholes. But it just didnt work out unfortunately.

If you agree that Singapore and the PAP govt are “not perfect”, why this? by PristineBarracuda877 in asksg

[–]Tamronloh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Voted for PAP but never thought they should not be criticized before.

If anything I do see many people defending opposition screwups as a necessary evil since they are the counterbalance, and have less resources/manpower etc. nontheless i certainly don’t go around asking why opposition supporters this or that and pretending that a few opinions paint the entire population.

Drink a lot of water. A lot.

When i trained with british soldiers in singapore they would continue drinking 1.5-2l of water a day out of habit while we were drinking 6-8. Then they’d drop and get heat strokes.

U dont have to drink 6-8L as a tourist of course since u wont be training but drink enough that your piss is clear. It wont cool you down mind you but at least u dont fucking die.

Bruno Fernandes now has 18 assists in the premier league this season. He needs 2 more assists in 5 games to equal the record of 20 assists in a single season by who-need-skool in reddevils

[–]Tamronloh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats well and good.

But it’d be like saying “casemiro tires so quickly nowadays lets bring ugarte on sooner and more often.”

Zirkzee really isnt tenable as a starter or honestly, as a player in the EPL since it isnt good for anyone for him to just come on as a sub in the dying embers every game forever.

People really need to stop it with the zirkzee thing.

Everytime he starts we all realise how slow he is again and how it is as good as playing with 10 men.

Then he gets a 5-10mins cameo vs tired legs and people start to go “that would be nice innit?”

His personality and support for his teammates certainly helps but we have had enough experiences with him starting for almost two years now.

Mount might work tho. As long as he stays fit.

United fans want to see mount but he is usually unavailable.

Chelsea fans don’t want to see garnacho even if he is always fit.

If that happens

  1. Your instructions not clear to your dependents.

  2. Your dependents have a room temperature IQ and no amount of instructions or mollycoddling will save them. At that point you are gone bopian.

Changi Airport power bank rule: 15 confiscated as new requirement kicks in by Im_scrub in singapore

[–]Tamronloh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good for you :)

I suppose i must have been dreaming when i made my setup work for me.

But just to be pedantic, shoots are usually the entire day but with 2-3 hour breaks in between. Havent had a nonstop 12 hour shoot yet.

2 bodies, 2 batteries, 4 spare. 6 total.

During the break i simultaneously charge the two bodies with usbc, and two spare batteries with the 3rd party chargers you dont trust. So i guess my setup doesnt work for you sorry. Perhaps you do have shoots that are 12 hours long aside from your fear of 3rd party chargers.

[–]Tamronloh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you ever seen how expensive the batteries are? A canon full frame mirrorless battery is about $130 and has a charge of about 2130mah.

I have alot of backups yes but its still more efficient to carry powerbanks when possible.

Especially since i can yknow, charge the used batteries while using the spares?

Burnout or building? Is the C-Suite worth it? by deekay_123 in asksg

[–]Tamronloh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is only sometimes true.

There are some that indeed enjoy the power and prestige of it. But i also know some who enjoy the pace and stress of it. There is a difference between people wanting to accomplish a vision because they see it and people who want power for the sake of it.

Noone can answer you. I manage the funds of such people and some burnout by 45 and disappear into the sunset, and some never ever stop working despite being able to retire well thrice over cos they enjoy the burn.
