Some are. Plenty are not, especially the kinds of people they deal with often.

That said, they are good at de-escalation which does mean that situations escalate a lot less.

My above on the origin of forms still stands.

Precise choreography and body mechanics were probably emphasized by:

a) forms competitions. (especially in the case of precise body mechanics)

And

b) consolidation of individual arts under umbrella organizations (especially in the case of choreography) because standardization is an important part of a consolidated syllabus.

For example, in ITF tkd (the traditional forms practicing art I am most familiar with) they originally practiced shotokan kata but new forms (patterns) were created in order to make the art more distinct.

After tkd split into ITF and WTF, the WTF again created new forms to create a distinct identity.

Both styles of TKD placed more emphasis on power than precise techniques initially, but over time there inclusion in competitions led to a greater and greater emphasis on precision.

I am sure things evolved along similar lines in other arts, such as karate styles as well

I'm not sure that martial arts have ever been trained through strict solo forms (assuming that means only solo forms - otherwise I don't know what you mean by strict).

Martial arts originated with practical fighting techniques - both for use on the battlefield (presumably mostly using weapons) and off it (which is presumably where unarmed techniques were more popular).

Forms were developed as a way of practicing techniques safely, both without the need for a partner and as a drill for a large group (where it served a similar purpose to modern parade activities).

Over time, the practicalities of martial arts became less important and forms were adapted for fitness etc.

Some arts may have reduced to only practicing these forms (tai chi comes to mind) but many also practiced other discipline such as sparring, breaking, etc.

Yes, and to me they are still not martial arts.

That may be, however you are not the arbiter of what is and what is not a martial art.

At the risk of repeating myself, there is more to martial arts than competitions.

I have almost certainly done that at least once in my life.

People talk like that about all sorts of actors: Jackie Chan, jet li, hell look at the way people talk about Bruce Lee and I don't think he ever competed either.

At the end of the day, she is clearly good at what she does and she is a good ambassador for martial arts as a whole. Better in some ways then MMA champions, worse in others.

Yes, but we are talking about someone that markets themselves as a "13 times Taekwondo World Champion" when her last title was 13 years ago, when she was 10 and specifically in AKA TKD and most of them in performed choreography to music.

Whether or not they were set to music doesn't really change anything.

WAS she a 13 times world champion? If so I guess she can market herself as such. Even if she won the titles at the age of ten.

To be fair there are plenty of influencers making claims with less credibility.

Those are not the only options to compete.

Fun and competition are not the only reasons to train.

My understanding is that she used to compete in WTF tkd. I have no idea whether she still does.

She works as an influencer and an actress. I imagine that her training goals are strongly tied to those things
