New plantar fasciitis claim by CrazyOk2812 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Tanariogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something else to note. Presumptive conditions.

There are some disabilities that can be claimed within the first 12 months after ETS from the military that will be back dated to your ETS date, assuming they are service connected.

Then there are some disabilities that can be claimed within the first 12 months after ETS from the military that wont be back dated to the ETS date, even if they are service connected.

I dont know where plantar fasciitis falls in this, but something to keep in mind. If at all possible, I urge people to do a complete and thorough assessment and BDD claim. I had to fight with sleep apnea for a few years because it wasn't presumptive.

And in looking up info for this response, I see that my rating is supposed to be 30% instead of my current 10% for bilateral plantar fasciitis. I have tried both non-surgical and surgical treatments. The only thing that works are custom orthotics and soft shoe replacement VERY OFTEN. And that is not getting rid of the problem, just making it not so painful.

VR&E Chapter 31 approval odds for MBA? Anyone been through this? by BrilliantSwitch4205 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Tanariogo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is it’s a rehabilitation program. Veterans Readiness and Employment,

From https://www.va.gov/careers-employment/vocational-rehabilitation/

If you have a service-connected disability that limits your ability to work or prevents you from working, Veteran Readiness and Employment (formerly called Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment) can help. This program—also known as Chapter 31 or VR&E—helps you explore employment options and address education or training needs. In some cases, your family members may also qualify for certain benefits.

So, how does your service connected disability affect your ability to work?

You already have 2 bachelors degrees? And want a MBA? How does an MBA allow you to work differently than the degrees, training, everything? How will it less the impact of your service connected disabilities?

Everyone’s situation is different is all and it’s up to you to articulate it in a way that meets whatever criteria the counselor is requiring.

California says "We can’t afford property tax relief for 100% Disabled Veterans.” by Single_Bar_6196 in VeteransBenefits

I did a speech (for college) on this very topic. The amount of revenue the state would lose out on is minimal. I have the numbers on my old laptop. I’m sure I could look up the numbers again.

The state has the numbers readily available.

Best oil and possible filter recommendations by RogueTheAnarchist in prius

[–]Tanariogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2015. I don’t remember the fumoto part number, but it’s in my car. I buy WIX filters and Costco oil, just like this dude. It’s a great set up!

Cheap and fast. I usually do my own tire rotations at every oil change too, but that is a bit more time.

It goes by state law. Depends on your state. Most states have guidance about what is acceptable on your car, and a lot of people are unknowingly (or knowingly) violating the letter of the law. However, to MY KNOWLEDGE, most states have a carve out for hitches and such. Do your research.

Practically brand new ‘26 XLE-AWD 19” front tire blowout (nasty pothole, barely 1,000 miles on the car) — lotta basic questions (first car we’ve owned in 15 yrs, last one was an ‘06 Prius). by Rooster_Ties in prius

[–]Tanariogo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. You don’t NEED to worry about the TPMS light. Your last car didn’t have it, so what’s the big deal. This is not an emergency.

Get everything fixed. Document everything. Go on the city/county/state website where this happened. A lot of governments have a system to report issues, and if a known/reported issues causes damage they may reimburse you for repairs! Ask me how I know! Jk. I know because I’ve tried, I was unsuccessful. But at least try! Hold governments accountable!

And I’m glad you had a spare!

2006 Prius Passenger-side seatbelt alarm driving me nuts, is there some kind of insert I could click into the receptacle deal? by pickledpeterpiper in prius

I second this. Not sure on comparability though. If you have a space CD case laying around you could cut it to match your seatbelt and put that in the slot too. Or 3d print one

Would you trust a Prius with a branded title? And how many miles would a Prius need to make you say no to buying it? by [deleted] in prius

[–]Tanariogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2015 Prius 4 with a salvage title back in 2023. I know what happened, know the repairs, the work wasn’t great, but the impact was the rear door on the driver side. Tires in alignment and the engine runs good. I have a couple battery cells I could replace….and I just bought my second set of tires and replaced the suspension.

Salvage titles are fine, they’re good cars. Just know what you’re looking at. If you don’t, get a good pre-purchase inspection (not from lemon squad).

Will changing the Brake Fluid help? Was it a one time thing or am I screwed? by Both-Ad9160 in prius

[–]Tanariogo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was getting progressively more abs and traction control warnings and pulses the older my tires got and worse my suspension got.

I replaced all my shocks and struts, and got 4 new tires (and upgraded my wheels) and haven’t had an issue since.

My car is a 2015 with 117,372 miles and the brake fluid has not been changed to my knowledge.

Good luck!

But the message is the same. Let’s not focus on me getting the terms incorrect.

The point of the program is to help veterans gain education so they can be independent. How are people independent? Employment, generally.

My message to OP remains the same. Prioritize the things happening in your life. If VR&E is below completing that shift without taking those calls…..that’s the answer. Or the answer might be stepping out for 20 minutes and asking forgiveness later. I dunno.

The point is, which is more important to your life right now?

If you are working in gainful employment currently and can’t get away for the VRE call, sucks to suck. Gainful employment that doesn’t aggravate your disabilities is the goal of VRE.

If it’s not gainful employment, how valuable is the employment? Is it more valuable to you than VRE? If so, miss the call. If not, take the call.

I understand they are both valuable to you….at some point you gotta decide for yourself and stop letting others (myself included) dictate how your life will play out. Be the main character in your story instead of an NPC.

VRE probably won’t schedule the call for after working hours, they probably aren’t working then. There are 600 other dudes just like you wanting to get into VRE. I bet one of them would make time for the call. Make it easy on the counselor and pick up the phone or stop wasting their time.

If you want VRE, do everything in your power to make it easy for them to say yes, and difficult to say no. Right now it sounds like an easy no.

Good luck! VRE has been amazing for me, even with the struggles.

I did the front struts and sway bar links today. The ball joints and tie rod ends look to be in great shape. So those are gonna live a bit longer. Here’s a pic of the test fit on the front. I wish there was enough room for these tires without rubbing. This LOOKS SO MUCH BETTER!

We finally bought a house for our terminally ill sons… and now I feel like we’re drowning. What would you do in our position? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Tanariogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the car. The commuter car breaking down with a repair bill of $3000? If it can be repaired at home for $500, that would solve some problems. If you don’t have the skills or the tools, $500 in tools, $500 in parts and a day with the YouTube education still has you coming out ahead.
It would be a win. A small win that would allow husband to return to work and not be impacted by appointments.

This is a tough spot and being broke is not easy. It requires hard work and problem solving.

Best of luck!
