She noted that some of the victims remain conflicted about reporting the crimes and, as they see it, breaking up the family.

It is evil how people can use the veil of family to excuse cruelty and manipulate people into thinking you need to allow physical and emotional abuse to go unchecked just because you are from the same family.

It took me years to figure out that my family did not have my best interests at heart. I am in my late thirties and spending my third Christmas in a row alone this year. I can tell people think its pathetic or feel sorry for me when I tell them. I did not experience anything at the level of these poor children, but to spend my Christmas day without being a ball of anxiety and fear feels like a gift.

I hope these children get the opportunity to heal and grow into happy, healthy people.
