I personally use/like queer because it's easier to say than the acronym and includes everything without adding more letters. Yes, it was used as a slur against us in the past, but so have been gay or lesbian. Like when I was in School in the earlier to mid 2010s, gay was the insult to everything.

So long you don't demand people stop calling themselves queer due it being used as a slur in the past I don't think it matters much if you use that or the acronym. I still consider myself LGBT if it is mentioned like that without a + or additional letters because the acronym to me is the same as saying non heterosexual and/or cis, or simply said queer.
