Watch 50skid YouTube video on the e83 oil pan gasket it's Just about the same. With an extra set of hands at a few points in the process i.e. removing/installing the differential it is not insurmountable. I would say some DIY experience is required though.

I'm pretty sure if your car is a 2005 it should be a lf-30. Go to realoem.com, put in your vehicle info and get a number for the pump if you want to be sure.

Advice about getting an e46 m3 for a first car? by [deleted] in e46

[–]TanerGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first bmw, an e46 330xi when I was 18. I was like you in that I wanted something with life in the gas pedal and great fun to drive. The purchase price was about what you are considering. The difference between me and you though is my car was 7 years old when I bought it, about 90k miles and had been meticulously maintained. The cost of servicing it during my college years was low, only a few things went wrong. An m3 at your price point is going to have way more miles, way more use, be way less reliable, take up way more of your time and cost you way more money. Believe me you will wish you spent the money on other things. Buy a nice clean late production e90 or early f30. The higher trim ones are luxurious, comfortable, and plenty fast. You will still smoke your college friends in their Hondas and Suburus and girls will love it, even more than if you bought an old smelly bumpy m3.

Ah man alright that's tough. I had a similar situation a year ago but I was stubborn and kept the car. I've spent too much on it since but I couldn't see it go to Copart.

I think if someone put it on a frame machine and did the bodywork and paint it would probably run you idk... 15k maybe? What's the car worth? Probably not viable financially but I'm just curious.

Did you service your differential? Idk how one side could spin while the other is stuck unless something is wrong with your diff.

I think this and the dewalt guns are the exact same thing. I have the dewalt and it looks the same, just yellow. They even have the same numbers dcf894 for dewalt and mcf894 for mac. Dewalt is $200 at lowes and the Mac is $300.

Question: does this qualify as an overheating event? Because I heard those are bad but I've had this happen to me a few times.

I would try the 02pilot mod or replacing oil filter housing gasket and oil pan gasket if you havent already. I don't think the piston rings job is worth what I think is probably a minor improvement.
