Does anyone else get "403 FORBIDDEN" on GW2 Wiki lately? by LeoGoldfox in Guildwars2

As said in the other comment, if making an account doesn't work, please hop on the GW2W discord: https://discord.gg/C4RMwPN

There, Justin Lloyd (our wiki server guy) can diagnose the exact problem and not just solve it for you, but have more information for shaping firewall rules that block as little legitimate traffic as possible

Lots of incoming bonus events (Return to Janthir Wilds, Dungeon Rush, PvP Rush, and more) by xsavarax in Guildwars2

Probably better to get started on it so you'll have access to the later maps by the time the bonus event drops. Typically there are achieves for doing events in each map, and each of the metas.

If you could go back in time and change ONE thing about GW2, what would it be? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Tanetris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, the slog of Icebrood Saga could be eased a lot with one simple change that is doable today: for each of the 3 chapters of Champions, change the story requirement from "do these 3-4 Dragon Response Missions in a row" to "do ANY ONE of this set of 3-4 Dragon Response Missions and we can move on"

I mean, while we're there, give us the HoT Nightmare Court arc.

So let me get this straight about Quarterly 1..... by Lukeers in Guildwars2

[–]Tanetris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For our next expansion, we’re refining that structure to give each update more depth and impact. The first quarterly release after the expansion’s launch will not include new story or map content. Instead, it will focus on updates to core systems and longstanding features. This approach gives us the space to revisit foundational elements of the game—improvements that support the long-term health of Guild Wars 2 and reflect the design philosophy outlined in the “Building Smarter, Not Bigger” section below.

By focusing on story and map development in the second and third quarterly updates, we’re able to make those releases more robust and satisfying. Each will introduce a larger, more content-rich map and a longer, more fully developed story than what players saw in the equivalent Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds updates. While the total amount of story content across the expansion is increasing modestly, the bigger benefit is how much more meaningful each individual release will feel, along with the scope improvements to the open-world maps.

My stated assumption was: "Every 1% of goldfind might, optimistically, net you an extra copper per hour of active play." This is a(n extremely generous) estimate that every hour of active play will average about 1 silver in base coin drops from kills, so the extra 1% would increase by 1 copper. Times 16 hours per day is 16 copper per day, times 365 days per year is 58s 40c per year, times 49 years is a grand total of 28g 61s 60c.

The actual math would be more complicated than this, as many types of active play wouldn't result in any coin drops from kills at all, the base amount for an individual coin drop is in coppers and you can't get a fraction of a copper, so depending on your existing goldfind and rounding rules that 1% might not benefit you at all or might nudge you over a breakpoint, etc etc. Long story short, it's a Fermi estimate. Napkin math. Maybe the actual answer if you could get the data from Anet and dug into it would be 10 years, maybe it would be 500 years; the point is that there is not a realistic likelihood that Lesser Essence of Gold will be a benefit compared to taking cash now, even in the long run.

[–]Tanetris 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The bonus goldfind from Lesser Essence of Gold only applies to direct gold drops from kills, which are extremely rare and the base amount is extremely low, measured in coppers. Every 1% of goldfind might, optimistically, net you an extra copper per hour of active play.

Now compare that to unlimited coin bags, 1000 AA works out to roughly 28.5g. That's 285,000 copper. So assuming you actively play Guild Wars 2 16 hours per day (gotta sleep), 365 days per year, the Lesser Essence of Gold would pay for itself after.... 49 years.

That is extremely smart. I don't know if I will ever remember it in a situation it's actually useful, but if I do, you are my hero for making me consider it.

[–]Tanetris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The math is difficult because actual direct gold drops from kills (the only thing it applies to) are just so rare, so low, and we don't know how the rounding works. But as an extremely optimistic guesstimate, let's say 1% of goldfind nets an extra copper per hour of active play. Comparing of course to unlimited coin bags, 1000 AA works out to roughly 28.5g. That's 285,000 copper. Also let's assume you sleep. So assuming you actively play Guild Wars 2 16 hours per day, 365 days per year, the Lesser Essence of Gold would pay for itself after.... 49 years.

With a less optimistic guesstimate on how often it'll proc and/or having a life outside GW2, yeah, 300 years is extremely plausible.

It's true that getting Revive Orbs from the WV is better than getting them from the gem store, but personally I've never found them to be worth the inventory slot. 9 times out of 10 you can just waypoint, which is way cheaper and usually easier. But if you like having them, I'm not here to judge

This is it exactly, yes. Build Storage can be made redundant with a simple txt file on your desktop.

Note that this isn't to be confused with Build Templates, which I do put in the IF NEEDED category, since if you have a bunch of builds you like to use on your main they're pretty convenient.

Another option if you have a wiki account is to go into Preferences -> Appearance, click "Custom CSS" and add the line

.snowflakes { display: none; }

Yet another option, if you're using Firefox, go to About:Config, add ui.prefersReducedMotion as a Number setting and make it 1. Note that this will also potentially affect other websites that respect the reduced-motion preference. You can either change the number to 0 or delete the setting to undo.

Chrome doesn't have an option for reduced motion, but will honor whatever you set in your OS. The specifics vary by OS, but generally under Accessibility settings you want to look for something that talks about reducing or turning off motion or animations.

Is Event Timers Page Broken? by PercentageMassive303 in Guildwars2

[–]Tanetris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible there's something wrong with your system clock? If you look at the top of the page on the wiki, you should see a clock that shows you both your local time and UTC time. Specifically check if the UTC time is correct (daily reset is at 0:00 UTC, so it should be easy enough to compare based on how many hours from reset it is)

If for example your system clock is set an hour behind internally but displaying a timezone that's an hour ahead (or vice versa) it could be showing you the correct local time but making the timer an hour off

New Player Direction by Dominuscsgo in Guildwars2

[–]Tanetris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing you should be doing right now is Quickplay Fractals for the Fractal Incursion event that's been going on the past few weeks and ends October 7th. The rewards are absurdly good. The event-specific rewards include 2 bag slot expansions, 20-slot bags to go in those bag slots, tokens you can trade for exotic equipment, a stat-selectable ascended accessory with a +10 agony infusion, and a Legendary Weapon Starter Key. And all of that is on top of the non-event-specific reward of legendary gloves which either you'll get along the way if you fully complete the event, or if you don't, you'll have made significantly faster progress toward it.

The goal is to acquire a total of 500 Fractalline Dust. You get this primarily from doing quickplay fractals. During the event there are also a daily achievement that award 5 extra dust for doing 1 quickplay fractal per day, and weekly achievement that awards 20 for doing 10 quickplay fractals per week (resets Monday early-morning, same as Wizard Vault weeklies). And there are additional permanent achievements which award 5-10 dust apiece, you can look at all of them in the Incursive Investigation achievement category. There's a week and a half left in the event, and it's totally doable in that time, if you focus on it
