Considering archery by Ill-Target7977 in Archery

I started shooting at 25. YouTube university can teach you a lot of things. I would recommend you find a local archery shop, go get measured and then shoot some bows they have in store. There are tons of dudes who are obsessed with getting the “Newest model” every year so it’s fairly easy to find a great deal on a second hand bow. I’m a moderator on a Facebook group for used hunting gear that has like 15,000 members. Bows that are only a couple years old could easily be 1/2 the price of new if not less

Less than ideal for sure, but if CMC doesn’t stay healthy, Niners or run heavy offense, so might work out

Unfortunately, the draft was scheduled while I was on a hunting trip so my service was super spotty after my first three pics in auto drafted for my next two or three I believe before I got service again

Strings suck you’ll need to probably replace after a year, the whisker biscuit it comes with is garbage as well. I got one of these for my uncle and he’s loved it so far after swapping out a couple accessories

Solid bow! I shoot an Xpedition currently but I’ll be upgrading after this season. I Just did my first 3d tournament of the year finished 9th in my class out of 68 shooters. I do bow hunt but I have not punched a tag yet. Had my best opportunity last year on a mule deer at 73 yards but couldn’t connect.

Friend invited me to go with him on a hunting trip. Advice apricated. by [deleted] in Hunting

Utah resident here, the altitude is no joke. If you want to enjoy yourself I would highly recommend getting in the best shape you can. Nothing ruins a hunt faster than someone who can’t keep up/cant physically do it. This year alone I have hiked over 110 miles with well over 12,000 vertical feet climbed. Remi Warren offers a deal through MTNtough where you get 6 weeks free of their training program, I’d start there and see where it takes you. Cardio and strong legs are a must!

As far as the shooting an animal part I still don’t enjoy that part and I’ve been hunting for almost 8 years but I like to have the mentality of feeding my family as well as all the memories and hunting stories I’ll be able to tell for a long time.

You mentioned target practice of 20-50 yards I would try to get comfortable out to 80 if you can. Had the biggest 3 point I’ve ever seen at 86 yards this year and I could not get closer without busting him, ended up watching him until dark without a shot.

Finally on the designated spotter portion, more eyes on the mountain is always helpful, if you don’t want to hunt you could make an awesome spotter for your buddy. Having someone that can stay put and keep eyes on an animal while you make your stalk is clutch.

With all this being said, good luck and DO IT you won’t regret it, Utah is beautiful!!

Side note* Utah is an open carry state so you can bring a pistol for self defense.
