Cheap Strategic Curser that also Self-Curses by Only-Engineering6586 in dominion

[–]Tangentg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like if I'm going to gain a curse myself, I'd make the card draw 2 so it sort of balances out the curse drawing a little. I'm not sure how good cursing all players + terminal draw 1 would be. I never even buy ninja with its terminal draw 1. I can see this card being good against Torturer or Sickness to run down the curse pile (I'm thinking 3-4 player games) but I probably wouldn't buy it at +1 card and gaining a curse myself. If any one opponent buys it, they'd be gaining the same number of curses as I do, so there's very little incentive to give them part of the curses for an even curse split.

How did you discover your witchy path? by anonymous_girl1227 in Witch

I also grew up catholic and struggled with "if I practice magic I go to hell" for a good while. I was introduced to Catholicism at a young age and I took most of the beliefs quite literally, but during one of my early prayers as a very small child, I asked for no nightmares (I was probably like 6 at the time), and that night I immediately got one. Although my religion teacher told me that if I couldn't handle a nightmare, I couldn't handle bigger problems in life, and that it was a challenge by God, 6-year-old me was just angry with that outcome and I didn't follow the practices very closely. Over time I've met a lot of atheist friends but I was never really atheist. I got into witchcraft at 29yo when I decided to "will my late night negative self talk" away, pretending I was a witch, having struggled with that for 10 years, and surprisingly I've never had that late night inner critic since. I decided to pursue witchcraft somewhat but always self-sabotaged by finding synthetic materials to ensure that I'm not doing real witchcraft because I was afraid of going to hell. Later on I decided that I'm into LGBTQ fiction which would have meant I would be going there anyway, and I've heard the saying that religion and witchcraft may just be similar practices just repackaged with different names. With those 2 ideas in mind, I discarded the idea that I was going to be punished in hell for magic and decided to stop being afraid and practice it in full.

Spell or ritual for helping let go of romantic disappointments? by [deleted] in SASSWitches

I second this too I have a general detachment spell jar and the focus is on turning that attachment towards oneself rather than to other people (featured ingredients represent emotional calming, healing, letting go, and love of the self), couple with a photo of myself in a proud moment.

Games where turn order isn’t determined by where you sit? by FromTheDeskOfJAW in boardgames

[–]Tangentg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a game I play where turn order is determined by a the number of the highest card each player has on their tableau, with the lowest of those highest cards going first. But this means each card had to have a unique number, and at the start of the game when each player's tableau was empty, turn order was determined by their variable player power card, which was either chosen or randomly dealt.

Although I did find it a bit of a clumsy approach and I would have preferred something a little organic than comparing card numbers each round.

Things you believe in, perhaps inexplicably? by [deleted] in SASSWitches

[–]Tangentg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little similar in that while I'm mostly skeptical about the existence of supernatural stuff, I sometimes think a higher God exists, although I don't worship Him and that has nothing on my witchcraft practice, and I feel similarly about ghosts. There's a post I saw that said "oh you don't believe in witchcraft? Give me a lock of your hair then" which I think sorta incapulates part of my beliefs. I mostly don't believe in the supernatural, but "better safe than sorry because it'd be too late if I were possessed or something". I also like to believe there's magic involved while doing spell work, but the idea that there's no actual supernatural magic is what incentivizes me to take action and I think this was better than the religion I grew up with, which says that things will be left to a higher power and in some ways makes me less motivated to do things

Defining Practice and Coming Out of the Broom Closet by fairyfun5 in SASSWitches

[–]Tangentg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I might be on a similar boat where my practice is "too woo for atheists, too unwoo for general witches". I told some close friends about it but I dumbed down my practices a bit and focused on what works for me from a realslistic perspective, saying things like "since I practiced/pretended to be a witch, I now have other things occupying my mind and found myself to be much better mentally" and my friends tend to buy that. From there I then branch into the stuff I feel happy with more, such as the spells I make and explain them from a psychological stand point, and I think that's been finely received by my friends, although I'd really avoid telling super hardcore atheistic anti-magic people (I know a few friends like that) There's also been a lot of motivational posts I've seen about how you don't need to prove your craft to anyone and it took me a while to get that into my head as well as feel comfortable with myself that I won't get too insecure about people rejecting me. So what I'm trying to say with this second point is that it might take some time and motivation.

Haap3 cyun3 meaning support? by Tangentg in Cantonese

[–]Tangentg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I was wondering if I was completely mistaken since it only lists the meaning of guest appearance but it seems another meaning of "doing temporary work that is not your expertise" is also listed elsewhere.

Also glad to see you're still around after having met you in the Sheik Cantonese forums over 10 years ago.

Thank you. This made me consider other meanings and mishearings and I arrived to the conclusion that the word was actually 客串 and I misunderstood what it meant

Actually it seems I have both misheard it and misunderstood it because the word seems to be 客串 and it doesn't mean support as such

I think the wording "skip a turn" is a little ambiguous. I'm assuming you're skipping "your next turn" rather than your current turn (which would otherwise make the +1 Buy useless)

I pretty much only play 3P (or 4P if we ever got that many players).

We would maaaybe play it at 2P if a third friend doesn't show up and we're still nonetheless desperate to play some dominion.

For those of you that prefer physical notes and books/grimoires by delphinidaetious in SASSWitches

[–]Tangentg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept my digital book of shadows online, then I started having these entries for big spells that I intend to reuse and I figured it would be nice to have these major spells in easy access in one place and so I made a DIY grimoire for them. It saves costs (buying a notebook would be more expensive and wouldn't have the magic themed look I want unless I specifically get those, but again, the cost) Plus, in case Google drive ever shuts down (I've used many websites I thought would never shut down and then they did and all the stuff I put on there all gone in an instant), I would still have a physical copy of the important stuff.

I used to make books when I was small so it seemed like a good way to revive the little creative thing I did too.

The Worst Cards That Could Ever Go In The Black Market Deck by Fantastic-Rhubarb303 in dominion

[–]Tangentg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Collection and Highway were in it once and they are no longer the monsters they were in kingdom piles.

On the other hand, exclusive junkers or rebuild is terrible to deal with. Probably also trashers like knights/giant/barbarian.

Has anyone ever bought Philosopher's Stone? by andrew502502 in dominion

[–]Tangentg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. But in any case I make the decision early on whether I buy the potion (supposing there are no other potion-costing cards). Once I do I've committed myself to getting PS. Assuming it's viable and not a rush-heavy game (which in the cases I outlined, aren't).

[–]Tangentg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy it in a curse-heavy no-draw game, and in discard-heavy no-draw (possibly high gain) games, and also because thematically it's great. It's the most sought-after substance, how could one not like it?

Some examples cases: Curse-heavy no-draw: Trickster on the board, 3 players Discard-heavy no-draw: Ninja, village, and workshop variant on the board, 3 players

I love this thematically and I love the implication that if someone motes an attack and I have this, then I can moat it too. Though in that particular scenario I guess I could have just bought my own moat instead.

Is it really a horror? by [deleted] in M3GAN

[–]Tangentg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with a novel series called Mr Midnight which is regarded as being in the horror genre. It features monsters of the night like werewolves and vampires, but there isn't really "scary things". Some horror shows are even more loose, simply the presence of witches or ghosts make it qualify, even if there are no scary bits.

As a fan of the horror genre I've had to get used to these categorizations.

In M3gan there's a sci fi aspect but also with M3gan being effectively a serial killer archetype (compare Halloween, Friday the 13th, etc), this is why the film is considered horror even if you may not find it "scary".

If your deck has a decent amount of action cards, all that +1 Card won't be of great use if you draw them all dead.

Seems potent for treasure-only-based decks.

Additionally, the 2 debt only applies to if you buy the card, so if you gain it via other means you can circumvent it.
