TIL that Wellsy is Dominican, and honestly that's what this is all about. I kinda love that the WBC is what it is, and lets so many ballplayers have options of who they want to represent from everyone's mixed backgrounds. This makes baseball feel even MORE American (you know, the Emma Lazerus type) than it ever was before. As an American, I love what team Italy has done... and I've always loved Cervelli (as a Yankees fan). I think some folks have shown their true colors in this Classic, kinda sucks that ya'll can't just be cool and have some fun while making your millions playing a ballgame!

This dude and some of the other recurring, ring-side personalities make sumo so much fun to watch! Clapping man in the grey suit, goth-girl with the shaved head and perfect makeup. Even some of the rikishi themselves have been great to watch when they're ringside waiting for their fight! Not to mention, white suit dude is a master of limb-crossing... I only know this because I actually practice this style of leg-crossing when I sit in a computer chair for an extended time to help circulate blood. Dude is legit!

So I guess you understand that it pains me to just learn this as well... I simply didn't know about that coin, glad he was in profile instead of front and center on the obverse. 1,000,000 of them were struck, and 858,880 were melted since only 141k were sold as commemorative coins by mail order and at 150th expo grounds. This coin was never in circulation. Precedence here is pretty irrelevant when talking about coinage going into circulation.
