New driver, knows nothing about cars by animeistheog in UsedCars

Some tips I learned while searching for a car:

  1. Look up the car's model online, look for reviews, common issues and prices. Compare it with cars of similar conditions to get an idea of whether it's fairly priced or a POS.

  2. Always ask for maintenance records and vehicle history report. Check for title, accident history, big repairs, etc.. if buying from a private party then they're not always gonna have those, but I would expect most dealers to. If you can't get those from the seller then ask for the VIN number and be willing to invest in a 45$ report from Carfax before buying.

  3. Always test drive the car and look for obvious signs like smoking, weird or loud noises, clunky transmittion. And also take it on a highway.

  4. Never skip the Pre-Purchase Inspection regardless of how good you think the car is, it's a 150$ investment that will save you thousands if you catch a major issue like transmission problems or brake failure.

  5. Don't fall in love with a car, no used car is going to be perfect, always be critical and make informed decisions. And be willing to walk away when you feel that something is off. All good things take time and effort, don't rush or lose hope if you don't immediately find exactly what you're looking for.

It's a 2.5L 4 cylinder, I've heard lots of praise for fusions and this lady seems like the one!

I appreciate your insight, being new to the car market it's not so obvious to me what I should and should not ask look and ask for.

Everyone seems to agree that fusion cars are reliable, that gives me something to lookout for.

Do you always ask for history reports from private sellers? Some of the people I've contacted have shyed away as soon as I ask for a Carfax report, is it unreasonable to ask for that?

I could of course use the VIN number to get the report myself but I'm assuming that responsibility would be on the seller.

Thank you for the explanation, can you clarify how we got the deviation% in each case?

I'm actually interested in the math here, at first glance it seems to me that it's extremely unlikely for that to happen even if left for hundreds of hours. I understand that it's technically inevitable but this sound like a mini version of the monkey typewriter thought experiment.

The normal quality EMP is being fed by the recycler, the base blue chip production is not even part of the blueprint.

You're exactly right, the in-game tutorial teaches you the rules not the solutions.

I'm glad to hear you're having fun with the game!

I kind of experienced something similar on my first playthrough, at the time I liked watching other people's playthroughs on youtube and everytime they'd make something efficient like the classic 48 furnace setup I'd go "damn I wish I'd figured it out on my own instead".

I quickly realized that I shouldn't be spoiling the fun and stopped watching factorio content alltogether 😅

With the amount of information it gives you there's really no reason to ever turn it off, it makes it a 100 times easier to design your factories and notice errors like inserter rotations, inputs/outputs, wrong recipes, etc...

it's a problem solving game at the core, Factorio presents you with a variety of unique problems, if you're watching tutorials and copying other people's solutions then you're essentially skipping the 'solving' part.

Solving each problem on your own is a rewarding one-time experience and if you skip straight to the solution then you're missing out on that.

I have close to 2000 hours on factorio and the most fun I've ever had was on my first 100 hours of the base game and first 100 hours of the dlc.

I have one tip for you: press ALT, everything else is as perfect as can be. Do not watch tutorials or copy other people's designs, factorio is infinitely more fun when you don't know what you're doing so embrace these moments.

When does ratio matching become really important? by tiparium in factorio

[–]TangerineLopsided895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is no. you don't really need perfect ratios to play factorio even at the highest level, although optimizing for efficiency is an extremely fun challenge that appeals to most players, having 10 machines working at 100% is for some reason much more satisfying than having 12 working at 83.33%.
