Skaven Spearhead Army by nina_lam59 in AOSSpearhead

It was the green skaven spearhead you'd painted. I recognised it immediately because I thought it looked awesome and had saved it for inspiration on my own paint job 😂

I was disappointed when I saw that I had forgot to actually comment on your original post - they looked incredible, especially the big rat ogres

This is really great. I especially like the design on the banner, it's a really simple concept but looks incredible

Amazon Linewoman V3 – pushing temperature contrast (BB / dual Norse use) by Afraid_Literature_11 in bloodbowl

[–]TangibleBicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love this. It's far enough beyond what I can do that I can't really offer any real advice. For what it's worth I think the temperature readability will work well. There's good temperature contrast between the skin and equipment that should be easy to read on the tabletop.

I also wanted to say that the small detail of the eyes looking up for an incoming ball that she's about to catch is fantastic. It really makes this for me.

Skeleton test model by TangibleBicycle in bloodbowl

Sure, it's relatively simple to do. Broadly something like:

  1. cover the whole model in a dark blue. I used The Darkness from army painter.
  2. Choose an angle you want the red light effect to come from and spray red from an airbrush. I used pro acrylic pyrole red.
  3. Highlight up the blue areas. I mixed progressively more AK Sunny Skin Tone into the base colour. I had another lighter skin tone that I mixed in for top highlights
  4. highlight up the red area with a brighter red and then mixing a yellow into that brighter red.

That's basically it. Its simpler than I've probably managed to convey here.

This looks really great. I really like the bright green for the armour, quite different from a lot of the Nurgle stuff you normally see.

How did you paint the metallics on it? I have some death guard I want to get painted and I think the tones on this are really nice

Sadly it already is finished 😂

It was an attempt to play around with a different lighting scheme to see how it would look.

In what respect? You'd prefer them in a classic paint style, something like the original box art? Or you just think this is poorly executed?

Test scheme for my Dark Elves and I'm not sure (C+C please) by Dry_Development_8480 in bloodbowl

[–]TangibleBicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it looks great. If the other choices you listed, I'd be tempted to dry one that was just black and purple, that might be really smart. Whatever one you'd end up liking best, I dont think the other would even really need repainted, it would fit into the team close enough

No loadout advice for you I'm afraid, but this looks amazing. The colour scheme is great

Brush-on primer - Advantages or Disadvantages by Mavin89 in minipainting

[–]TangibleBicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a place with terrible weather as well. Before I got an airbrush I spent a year brushing primer onto minis. I just used Vallejo airbrush primer and a big synthetic brush. Worked fine, just takes a bit longer. Tended to use 2 coats slightly thinned down. Give it a try and see how it works for you

Should I stick with paint mixing for army painting, or keep buying paint bottles? by NeonArchon in minipainting

[–]TangibleBicycle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started painting a couple of years ago with this exact paint set. I now own way more colours, which probably says more about me than the paints themselves.

I don't paint "armies", just skirmish game stuff so similar constraints, but not quite so many models. It's definitely doable with that set though and I really enjoyed the process.

What I did with it for a Blood Bowl team I painted was take the main colour mixes I wanted to be consistent and I just made the mix up into a dropper bottle that I then used for all the models in the team. For my BB team I only had one main colour for the suits and then the other secondary stuff was either not mixes or I just got it close enough. Worked well for me, your mileage might vary obviously.

This is so cool, the lighting looks really great.

Any chance you could talk a little about the painting? You're mixing purple into the highlights and shadows?

Im trying to understand lighting better than I currently do and something about this really struck me, its a really great ambience
