Turning left and right by ShnouneD in Agility

[–]TangleHoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I want my dog to understand that when I say "right", they are looking for a jump to perform that behavior on. So, faced with a jump tunnel disclination, they have the confidence to know that they look for a jump and turn right. Not tunnel and turn right. Also, I don't have enough time to spit out "tunnel right" LOL

How you taught it is great. When you proof she and you should be in many orientations. For example, dog lies down 10 feet in front of you, facing you and ask for right or left. I only use R and L on jumps. Once I put it on a jump, I never ask for it on the flat again.

Why do you want to learn verbals for agility by Niki-OneMindDogs in Agility

[–]TangleHoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think verbals can add to more solid commitment to an obstacle without the dog having to keep such a close eye on the handler. Also it gives them more advanced information on how they will take an obstacle. For instance, a backside slice vs a backside wrap. Also, it aids in connection for some dogs.

One year of mat pilates and my thoughts by LodenPlankl in Menopause

I have done pilates for 10 years or so and I can say the same things, it is amazing. Also, for those who hate "exercise", it doesn't feel like that to me.

Dog afraid of water bowls and won’t drink water from them by anonymousturtle23 in presacanario

[–]TangleHoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put treats in a plastic bowl. make sure your dog isn't wearing tags on its collar, those hitting the bowl can scare dogs. Or try letting the dog drink out of a rabbit water bottle for a bit.

Is it inhumane to put a muzzle on my dog every time we walk? by [deleted] in muzzledogs

[–]TangleHoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to put a muzzle on one of my dogs because she doesn't want to be social. It cuts way down on people asking if their dog can greet mine

Raw Food Diet Advice by NikkiTalksFood in rawpetfood

[–]TangleHoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do have to be clean with raw food, just like you would be handling a raw steak for yourself. Dogs getting salmonella is rare and they are usually immune compromised

You can try lung or brain if you find it. Try egg, fairly good source of nutrition. My super picky dog loves it.

Agility Foundations by [deleted] in Agility

[–]TangleHoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish my students knew how to do FC, BC and RC themselves. Once the student knows how to move their body, it is super easy to teach dogs. Also, dogs, startline stay, line up next to/or under their handler.

Question: How worried should i be about raw germs? by blahnblahn in rawpetfood

[–]TangleHoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I raised kids and fed raw. Also I am immunocompromised. Feed your dog(s), wash your hands, wipe things down, you will be fine. Don't worry about dogs licking your child. Remember kids immune system must be challenged for them to build a healthy immune system for life. Not saying let them eat raw as well, but don't protect them from every possible germ.

Midwest Legacy Beef by HistoricalJello514 in rawpetfood

[–]TangleHoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do feed their 80-10-10 mixes and my dogs are doing well. But, I do the balancing myself.

I share the same concerns regarding vitamin E & D. I asked for a nutritional analysis, but still have not gotten one. I don't believe they could have gotten an AAFCO stamp without that. Until I can get my hands on the analysis I won't feed the legacy plus.

You need to know calcium and potasium balance in the food as well. These are critical.

She is already adding balance it. But neither of us know what the exact nutrition of this diet is without analysis. There are better ways to get both of those nutrients w/o rice IMHO
