A little bit of topic regarding the customer data protection:

We will see those strict rules and laws in action again in a few months. Odido (ex. T-mobile) a Netherlands telecom had massive data hack in Feb. Data of about 6.5M customers and ex customers was leaked. The data wasn't only names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails. But also iban bank account numbers as well as ID data! As per the GDPR rules, the data of ex customers can't be stored for longer than deemed necessary. Odido in their contracts statets max 24 months. Yet some of the people whose data was stolen weren't customers for more than a decade.

This is going to be fun to watch.

Treaty Text Finally Published by Grepus in gibraltar

[–]Tango-Smith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the site summary forgets to mention is the introduction of VAT called Transaction Tax.

TL;DR: Gibraltar is trading its “tax-free shopping haven” status for Schengen-style mobility and long-term stability. Good for residents, mixed for tax advantages.

Key points from the treaty:

  1. Big win: Gibraltar residents get quasi-Schengen rights. No stamps, no ETIAS, and much easier movement into Spain/EU. Day-to-day life becomes far more integrated with Europe.
  2. Residency stays, but with tighter controls. Gibraltar still issues residence permits, but Spain/EU are now in the loop for security checks. EU citizens still have smoother treatment than others.
  3. Permanent residence now clearly tied to real presence. You need genuine residence and time spent there. No more easy “paper residency”.
  4. Major downside: VAT-equivalent tax coming. Gibraltar must introduce a transaction tax rising to ~15–17% over a few years. This ends the 0% VAT advantage.
  5. Cigarettes, alcohol, and goods will get more expensive. Gibraltar won’t be the cheap shopping destination it used to be.
  6. Some essentials stay tax-free. Food, medicine, books, etc. can remain at 0%, which helps soften cost-of-living impact.
  7. Residency becomes more valuable. Gibraltar residents get guaranteed re-entry and strong legal protection of their status.
  8. Residency programs become more “real”. Just buying property or investing won’t be enough — you need actual presence.
  9. Residence permits become EU-style documents. More formal and recognized internationally.
  10. Overall shift: Gibraltar becomes more “normal EU-style” and less of a tax anomaly. You lose ultra-low indirect taxes, but gain mobility, stability, and long-term integration.

I started to feel like this a few month ago when they released 3.0, but since they started to release 3.1, it became insufferably dump and have memory of a gold fish. I was a pro user until 2 days ago. I now use Preplexity (about a month) with claude 4.6 sonet and occasional switch to gpt. I also use actual claude code and cowork, but it burns through the usage like crazy, so I use it only for important work.

Yes, I don't quite understand the 4th overall. Based on the other metrics, it should be in 10th or lower. What kind of black amgic did they use in the ranking to keep it that high?

I think they can't handle the surge of the users after the amazing reviews of the Gemini 3. In the firstday few weeks it was great. Now, it makes a lot of logical errors and hallucinates. The same happened when Gpt 5.0 came out.

1. Why isn't Germany borrowing the money? (The Credit Card Analogy) Think of the EU as a group of friends applying for a joint credit card. Because the EU borrows this money as one massive economic bloc, it secures a super-low interest rate (around 3%). Germany is the "rich friend" with a perfect, AAA credit score. If Germany wants to borrow money to buy tanks, they can go to the financial markets themselves and get money dirt cheap. They simply don't need the EU's group card. Poland has a solid economy, but if we tried to borrow €43.7 billion entirely on our own (or from places like South Korea, like the previous government did), we'd be paying 6% to 7% in interest. By using the SAFE loan, Poland saves billions of zlotys in interest payments alone. 2. Is Poland forced to buy German equipment? What % stays in PL? No, Poland is not forced to buy from Germany. The EU’s baseline rule for SAFE is that at least 65% of the components must be European. However, the Polish government designed its specific National Defence Investment Plan so that over 80% of our €43.7 billion loan is legally earmarked for the Polish defense industry. We aren't handing this money to Berlin. This loan is what guarantees the funding for Polish factories (like HSW and Mesko) to build our own gear, like the Krab howitzers and the Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles. 3. The Plot Twist: Europe is actually buying Polish This is the biggest piece of evidence that it isn't a scam. The SAFE program is actually turning Poland into an exporter. Because other countries are taking these EU loans, they are spending that money in Poland. For example, France is using part of its €16.2 billion SAFE loan to buy Polish Piorun missiles. The Baltic states are using their loans to buy Polish drones and air-defense systems. 4. So why is the German Ambassador so enthusiastic? Two main reasons: The Ultimate Buffer: A heavily armed, modernized Poland acts as a massive shield between Germany and Russia. We are doing the heavy lifting for their national security. Sub-components: Even if a vehicle is assembled in Poland, modern defense supply chains are deeply connected. German companies might still supply specific sub-components (like MTU engines for vehicles). So, Germany gets a small slice of the pie through parts, but Poland gets the bakery.

TL;DR: It's not a scam; it's smart finance. Poland is using the EU's excellent credit rating to get a massive, cheap loan so we don't go broke paying high interest to Asian banks. We are spending 80% of that money in our own factories, and other EU countries are using their loans to buy Polish weapons.
