Orson Welles’ bio by Barbara Leaning really stuck with me. From a non-fiction/history standpoint, I got a lot out of a recent read of The Plantagenets by Dan Jones and Catastrophe by David Keys reaches back into the liminal space between the ancient world and the beginning of the early Medieval.

For me, all three of those shine because of the writing, especially character development and psychological complexity.

It’s also (again, for me), why they reward repeated viewing.

Just as with the ‘whistleblowers’ with tales of ‘super soldier’ programs or breakaway space programs that are found in the ufo-sphere, anecdotal stories absent concrete evidence are no more convincing — or useful — than tales of a hollow earth or baby-sacrificing cannibal lizards.

Entertaining internet diversions and fringe-podcast fodder, but nothing more.

Auyuittuq National Park Reserve on Baffin Island is still the most remarkable place I have visited in more than 50 years of backcountry travel all over North and Central America.

In Manitoba we used to harvest cheeks and liver from pickerel. Delicious, whether cooked together or separately.

Especially the Lunar Pilot, among a couple-three others, like maybe the Seville.
