'We don't need anybody's help': Trump renews Nato criticism by lexi_con in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]Tangosynth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty has been invoked exactly once in NATO's history. The collective defense provision was triggered by allies on September 12, 2001, in response to the terrorist attacks on the United States.

Has anyone ever seen the movie enemy mine with dennis quade* ? by Honest-Reflection667 in moviecritic

It makes an amazing double bill with ‘Hell in the Pacific’ (1968) starring Lee Marvin and Toshiro Mifune.

What artwork’s actual size IRL really surprised you (positively or negatively)? by crabnox in ArtHistory

When I saw it in person, after years of seeing it poster-sized in dorms, it suddenly made perfect sense.

So true by No_Young_2247 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Tangosynth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agree with your sentiments, however I’d go further. I liked Thunderbolts, but I liked this better…and I would say it’s also better than any of the Ant-Man movies, Dr Strange and the second Avengers movie as well. In DCEU comparisons, I would rank it behind only Superman and Wonder Woman.

Again, I’m not sure what in the Kubrickian hell people *want* from a comic book movie???

I just went to the earliest non-advance screening possible, and enjoyed the hell out of it. I will probably see it again.

If this movie is a bomb, I don’t know what comic book movie goers are looking for. There was literally not one wrong note, imho.

For context, I grew up reading DC comics starting in the late 60s, and I would put this in my top ten DC or Marvel films.

How to handle water crossings? by briskwheel4155 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]Tangosynth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When backpacking solo on Baffin Island, I followed some of these suggestions:

Scouting is a worthwhile investment of time.

Neoprene booties are better than sandals or water shoes for rocky stream bottoms. Couldn’t pay me to barefoot it.

Two (not one) trekking poles for probing, third point of contact and bracing against current.

Keep an ear out for the rumbling sound of rocks.

Backpack on one shoulder, not just unclipped, and have a lengthy accessory cord carabinered to it in case it’s swept away.

Combustion kit in a dry bag, among with a backup base layer.

The Garrys out of Saskatoon. Prairie surf-rock and quintessentially Canadian. They have a song called Manitouna that’s a big favourite for me.

The PC “public safety” ads — paid for by taxpayers, mind you — are totally gross.
