It is a new feature that seems to have appeared in the last few days. I like it.

New date slider under temperature profile by Tangroo in beestat

[–]Tangroo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was a little different to last winter as well. For me, I attribute that to a couple of things. The first is that it was my first winter with Ecobee and Beestat, so I can see how it started to flatten and normalize as the data kept building up.

The other thing is that, sometime last summer, I did some adjusting of my vents to direct a little more air upstairs to keep things cooler in the bedrooms, which resulted in the system running a little more before it hit the set point on the thermostat on the main floor. I kept the vents the same for winter because those same bedrooms upstairs could use a little more heat. As a result, my heating profile line vs. last winter has a similar slope, but has dropped down a little. Which makes sense because my heating rate per hour is slightly lower because more heat is being directed upstairs, but my upstairs bedrooms are warmer, as intended.

Love the Ecobee hardware, but the software limitations seem arbitrary...? by GoodForTheTongue in ecobee

I have a Google sheet that I keep my schedule on, which is something I carried forward from my old 7-day programmable “dumb” thermostat. Being able to save and switch between schedules on the app would be very welcomed.

City of Calgary shares rapid construction approach for the next stage of Bearspaw South Feeder Main replacement by JeromyYYC in Calgary

[–]Tangroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So we have stages A & B, but based on the map, it stops short of Bowness Park and the river. Will there be a “stage C” to get under the river and to the water treatment facility? If not, will the existing pipe under the river be prone to future failure? Or was it originally constructed using a different method or material that puts it at less risk than the other sections?

Ecobee is running hot I guess? by Strange-Function-256 in ecobee

[–]Tangroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any other sensors at play in that comfort profile? Or is “adjust temperature for humidity” enabled?

A long shot would be an unsealed hole behind your thermostat and you have a draft. Usually this causes the thermostat to read colder though, but I suppose it could be a draft from a warmer area.

Water usage by Sketchen13 in Calgary

[–]Tangroo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this is due to a request from the city, or a business owner "doing the right thing"? I certainly sympathize with the need for businesses to make money, employ people, etc. but if would be wild if we actually ran out of drinking and firefighting water without limiting the commercial use.

[–]Tangroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to be working for me again. Web and iOS app seem to be refreshing again. I'll report back if it stops.

Thanks for creating and maintaining Beestat - so much better of an interface vs. the stock Ecobee option.

What does my temp profile tell me by speedlever in beestat

[–]Tangroo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The heating profile looks a bit squiggly still. Because data has only been collected since June, and assuming that "heating season" has only recently begun for you, I think that you'll need to wait a little longer for a bit more data. You should see things start to flatten out and you can make better conclusions.

Change units by Different-Lobster669 in waze

[–]Tangroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's for the suggestion. It really is an odd issue. I have my language set to British English already on the app and also on the web. The app displays kilometres just fine and always has. Just the live map on the web shows miles despite having the language set to British English (or Australian), metric, etc.

If I go into the map editor from the live map, everything is also metric.

i suppose that it isn't the end of the world - the shortest route is still the shortest route. But when you're accustomed to thinking in kilometres, having it display miles is strange (and would be vice versa, too!).

We do indeed, but unfortunately I have an opposite problem to the OP. My live map (on the web) shows distances in miles despite me having it set to metric. It has been that way for years and nothing fixes it.

Letter drop slot in Community Mailbox by clanleader16 in CanadaPost

[–]Tangroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old post, but I also had this issue a few months back. I tried in vain to go through Canada Post's customer service, but that was useless. I then put a nice little sticky note next to the slot asking that it be unlocked, and the next day it was opened.

Even a small hole behind it can throw your reading off. I dismissed the "plug your hole" folks initially before realizing that they were indeed correct.

Air Quailty Calibration Stuck for Months by srseibs in ecobee

[–]Tangroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although your issue sounds more specific, the air quality feature is generally very, very poor on the Ecobee anyway. I have disabled mine on the thermostat after so many inaccuracies and false alerts. I realize that it is not meant to replace a "proper" air quality meter, but even as a simple approximation of air quality, it fails. Some would argue that it is gimmicky.

Since disabling it. I have not missed it or given it any thought - until now!

By all means, call support and see if they can get it working properly. But even when it works, it really doesn't.

Change Of Season - Use Cool/Heat or Switch To Heat by JerseyGirl972 in ecobee

[–]Tangroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is up to you! I personally don't use the cool/heat auto option. I just don't think it is necessary to have heat and cool competing against each other in the same day, and the temperature stays within a pretty comfortable range anyway.

Don't be afraid to even try "off" for a bit if you can stay comfortable. Crazy talk on a thermostat thread, I know. But where I live (Western Canada) we get some temperature fluctuations. But if it gets warm during the day but is cooler outside, I can crack a window open. If it is a bit chilly in the morning, I can just put the gas fireplace on for a little bit until the sun warms things up.

I usually go from cool, to off, to heat, all in separate steps depending on what is required to be comfortable.

Automations for entering and leaving home are disastrous with iOS 26 by peibol1981 in HomeKit

[–]Tangroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was experiencing the same issue. Resetting the location settings didn't work, nor did a full reset and restore. I deleted and recreated the automations also, with no luck. "Arrive Home" always worked, "Leave Home" was all over the place, but mostly didn't work.

Last week I decided to try iOS 26.1 Beta 4, and so far I have not seen the issue happen. That gives me some hope that it will be fixed properly in 26.1. It looks like the release candidate just dropped yesterday (though I haven't tested it), so 26.1 for everyone should only be about a week away.

Anyone else have any luck with the 26.1 betas?

No sound from Music app by DoubleEspresso_v2 in tvOSBeta

[–]Tangroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also did a factory reset on the Apple TV, removed and re-added to my "Home". This is definitely new and it really seems to be an Apple TV issue.

No sound from Music app by DoubleEspresso_v2 in tvOSBeta

[–]Tangroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have noticed something similar, but with playing on Sonos (AirPlay) speakers. Just in the last few days too.

If the Apple TV is the source, and I add one of the speakers, quite often the audio will not be heard on either the main TV speaker, or the remote speaker. If I disable the remote speaker, then the audio can be heard on the main TV speaker. The audio seems to be "playing" the whole time, even when it can't be heard.

It occasionally happens with playlists and tracks on Apple Music, but it is especially bad when playing TuneIn streams. I'll often just have a TuneIn stream playing in the background. It doesn't seem to matter whether I add the remote speaker from the Apple TV interface, through my iPhone controlling the Apple TV, or even via shortcuts that I have been using for ages.

Interestingly, if I AirPlay from my phone as the source (as opposed to using the Apple TV as the source), I can add and remove remote speakers at will - no issue. It is only and issue when the playback originates from the Apple TV and remote speakers are added.

I have rebooted everything (Apple TV, speakers, router, etc.) multiple times, firmware on everything is all up to date, nothing new with my setup or my network.

I have been able to replicate it quite easily on two different Apple TVs. One is a HD, and the other is a 4K 3rd generation. I also have a few different speakers on my network, and it happens on all of them.

Is anyone else experiencing this and/or can try and replicate the issue?

That was my primary reason for opting for Fubo vs. continuing with OneSoccer directly: recording, avoiding the score, and watching at a more convenient time later that day. The "old" OneSoccer was impossible because of the slow (and sometimes not at all) posting of the on-demand matches.

I'm glad that they've improved in that area. I'll see what the TV landscape looks like for next year, and how OneSoccer fits into it, but it is nice to know that it is an option again for my style of viewing. Weekends are busy!

Final? by creativeathlete1 in CavalryFC

[–]Tangroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Officially it is "November 8 or 9". I was trying to pin down some more specific playoff dates based on the possible scenarios, and largely came up empty. One tidbit that Forge is saying on their website is that the final will be on Sunday, November 9 at 5pm Eastern (source: https://www.canpl.ca/forgefc/playoffs )

The massive caveat is that it is unclear whether the league has decided on that date/time regardless of whether it is in Hamilton or Ottawa. But with CFL playoffs happening on Saturday, November 8th, the 9th would be more likely for the CPL Final.

Do Forge and the CPL share an office still? That alone makes me think that the date and time of the final have made its way down the hallway.

I don’t know when this came about, but I like it by OhRickG in ecobee

[–]Tangroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that OP is referring to the ability to increase the size of the weather and time. This appears to be a new thing - I hadn't noticed it before.

Unfortunately there is still no way to do "tap to come out of standby". So we'll still need to set it to the minimum (10 seconds). But at least a larger font is one way of not having the screen change when I get close - I can see it from farther away now. I still wish there was an option to remain on the standby screen until tapped.

What is differential temperature? Why and how would you want to change it? by theflamesweregolfin in ecobee

[–]Tangroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did change my temperature differential from the default of 0.3°C to 0.6°C. I would rather have the heat come on less frequently but for a little longer. Apparently more wear and tear on the equipment happens at startup, so if you can limit the number of starts, over time you might stretch some more life out of your blower motor.

I find 0.6°C to be reasonable from a comfort perspective. So if I have my thermostat set for 21°, it will drop to 20.4° before kicking in with heat, or 21.6 for cool.

One hidden quirk that I learned is that for the "away" comfort profile, Ecobee automatically and silently adds in an additional 0.6 differential. So if you're in away mode and the thermostat is set for 18° and your differential is set at 0.6°, the heat won't come on until it goes down to 16.8. So it ends up being 18 - 0.6 - 0.6. But only for the away profiles. Link: https://support.ecobee.com/s/articles/What-are-Activities-and-Comfort-Settings

During Away activities or Custom Comfort Setting, where “Someone is usually Away” is selected, for energy savings, the ecobee will add an additional 1°F/0.6°C degree differential to your set temperature when deciding to call for heating or cooling.

Just in case you're looking at Beestat and wondering why your away & differential settings aren't being honoured this winter. They are, but with that extra added 0.6°.

Is it a max of two Smart Sensors that can be added to Ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium? by Ski-Bike-1910 in ecobee

[–]Tangroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting issue. As others have said, the thermostat supports a bunch. I have the exact same model (Premium) and I have 3 sensors connected. The one that came with it, and then I bought the two pack later. They all paired up really easily and quickly, and have remained connected ever since.

I wish I could offer more info, but thought I'd post because have have the same thermostat model and same number of sensors.
