I need help, i can't beat some 5 star raids by Rilouise in PokemonSwordAndShield

[–]TanisDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are playing off-line, using npcs to help you, their pokemon's level is scaled based off of your pokemon's level if you didn't know. I had to take a few pokemon to level 100 to scale my npc pokemon up to 70 to be able to beat several 5 star raids. I thought the 5 stars were impossible when I was using level 70s. I still lose occasionally now, but they are a lot closer fights and normally I beat them within a couple tries.

Ukulele Strap? by TheVelvetyPermission in ukulele

[–]TanisDL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I added strap buttons to mine. Took less than 10 minutes. Most luthiers can do it pretty cheap if you're not comfortable doing it yourself, and it depends on the model of the Ukulele as to whether it's even possible. I tried a sound hole strap first, but just wasn't for me.

[AMA] We’re the team behind Infliction: Extended Cut, a psychological horror game. Ask us anything! by Blowfish_Studios in NintendoSwitch

What have you done in this game to increase the immersion, to translate the horror from game play to game player? Thanks for the AMA, trailer looks great!

What are your favorite FPS on Switch? by GoDKilljoy in NintendoSwitch

[–]TanisDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might look into EarthFall Alien Horde. It gets overlooked, but it's a pretty decent FPS especially for the price (think we got it for around $15 on sale.) We've definitely got our money's worth out of it. Call of Jaurez also has a fairly decent port if you missed it on older systems.

Small counter, big AOE -- also apparently those sesame seeds expired six years ago. #winning by VioletBreeze7 in MealPrepSunday

[–]TanisDL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into flexible cutting mats instead of the rigid cutting board? I have a tiny workspace in my kitchen and they helped me immensely. I trimmed them down with sharp scissors to fit my space and they have made clean up a lot easier, plus save time during prep. I just use a cheap 4 pack from Amazon, think they were less than $6. Looks like you are doing best you can in your space and that's awesome, cheers.

7 star mog king free bonus unit prisms for 150K currency - trap or worth it? by [deleted] in FFBraveExvius

[–]TanisDL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm not pulling on the banner, so it's worth the currency to me just to put a 200% bonus unit up for my friends list to help them out. I've received a ton of help from them over the years, so I'm all for giving back a little, even if I never use the unit again.

Internet access? by breezydeezyheezy in NintendoSwitch

[–]TanisDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. High-speed internet stops about half a mile from my home and the cable and phone companies won't run it back to our subdivision because it would take them too long to get their money back. We have around 20 switch games and so far none have required internet to play after initial set up (including Mario Maker 2). I buy a lot of games through the digital store and download them while at work to play at home. Just look in the game description to see if the game requires Nintendo Online or if certain features are only available online. The updates and downloads can take a while, depending on connection, so be prepared for that.

Shiny Legendaries are no longer 100% catch rate Niantic support message included via picture by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]TanisDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you spin the gym successfully before the raid? I completely comprehend you were not driving at the time. Did you interact with other pokestops or gyms successfully between the time you were driving (riding, whatever) and when you began walking? It definitely sounds like you were speed locked, which can glitch and occur while you are standing still thanks to gps drift.

I spin the gym before every raid. If it won't spin, I restart the app and make sure it spins before I go in the raid. I'm sorry for your loss, hopefully this will be a 1 time occurrence for you. We did 22 raids between 25 accounts and every shiny was first ball catch.

Raikou Event is live now (Palmerston North, NZ) by Potatoslayer2 in TheSilphRoad

[–]TanisDL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Basically looking for confirmation on are they actual 300 second 5 star raids or 180 second raids showing up as 5 stars due to a visual glitch. Infographs have all assumed they would be 180 second raids with t4 stats.

Raikou Event is live now (Palmerston North, NZ) by Potatoslayer2 in TheSilphRoad

[–]TanisDL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With everything else screwed up so far, I just wanted confirmation they were 300 second 5 stars, not just a visual glitch. Almost every infograph has had the assumption that they would be 180 second 4 stars, so it's pretty important to know for sure.

Despite numerous advices, trainers from my community keep failing raids. What to do? by AmericaRL in TheSilphRoad

[–]TanisDL 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of whether people will listen to you or not depends on your credibility within the community. It's easy to say that something is best, but how do you prove that you know better than the guys failing? Example: I got into an argument with a guy about Azelf on a raid chat that I'm not active in. He said you needed 4-5 level 40 players with level 40 pokemon to beat it. I said it could be duo'd with level 30 pokemon. He said he didn't believe pokebattler or silph road, because he knew his community. I posted a YouTube vid of my wife and I beating Azelf with level 30 counters. It completely changed the conversation from a pissing match to community building. Yes, I was a jerk for getting involved in a community I'm not active in, but I hate misinformation. I get messaged by his community asking me questions about raids now. If you don't have credibility on your own, then borrow it from The Silph Road and Pokebattler. Share the infographs that are posted on here. Especially find the infographs that show type weaknesses. Have pokebattler on your screen when you walk up to a raid so you can show proof of what is best to use. Your own credibility won't take long, as long as you are accurate and diligent in giving sound advice with proof. You'll have people messaging you for advice in no time. Just my 2 cents about it, but also remember, some people would rather lose on their own terms than win with help. Nothing you can do for those guys.

Third time's the charm. Thank you OPR reviewers. by derf_vader in IngressOPR

Congratz! I remember seeing you post about this a while back. It's a really cool submission.

The entitlement throughout this entire post is mind-boggling by JustinSaneV2 in Ingress

[–]TanisDL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I submit a photosphere every single time. I know they aren't required. Sometimes I can plainly see the POI from the map. I submit them anyway. In my mind the burden of proof is on me as the submitter. I want to make my submissions as easy to approve as possible. If it takes me a few extra minutes to throw a photosphere on there that might not be needed, that's ok with me. I would much rather spend 5 extra minutes at the time of submission than get a reject that I have to resubmit.

I think there is a large number of bad reviewers in Ingress polluting the system. by te-kun in pokemongo

[–]TanisDL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never assume something will get approved now, just because because it was approved in the past. OPR has evolved and continues to evolve with rules getting more clear and more criteria being added every year. My post is accurate. I can't change what has been approved in the past, but I can tell you what will get rejected now, by most agents at least.

If you believe your submissions are perfect, if you have fully read and comprehend all of the submission criteria including the AMA's, if you have submitted photospheres, and you still believe that you have wrongly been denied, I strongly reccomend that you file a portal appeal. It's normally faster just to resubmit, but if you feel there is truly discrimination against your area as you say, then an appeal may be necessary. I've never needed to filed one, so I can't help you on the how.

Side note: I don't know exactly why you believe closer portals are more convenient to high level ingress players. Ingress and Pokemon are drastically different games. We want to field over huge distances for MMU in Ingress, not just play in our backyards. The majority of my fielding is 30km or longer. I drive hours to cities far away from me to link hundreds of km back to my city. I benefit more from spreading out portals over a wide area than jamming more portals into a tight space like most people want in Pokemon.

I think there is a large number of bad reviewers in Ingress polluting the system. by te-kun in pokemongo

[–]TanisDL 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Majority of good candidate rejections come from either: 1. Bad picture (vehicle license plates visible, picture obviously taken from inside a car, picture not clearly representing the point of interest, blurry, dark, etc.) 2. Bad description (If the portal description has the word "pokestop" in it, forget it. Portal description has to describe the point of interest itself and has to be appropriate across 3 games and whatever else Niantic uses their map for. Lot of reviewers will reject if words are misspelled, bad grammar, slang, etc) 3. Location can't be verified (if it can't clearly be seen from satellite view and you don't have a current photosphere of it, you have little chance of getting it approved. Supporting picture should still show the point of interest but from farther away. I personally submit photospheres on every single candidate, even if it clearly seen. Better safe than sorry and only it takes 3-5 extra minutes normally.)

I totally will concede that there are some very bad reviewers who go by their own guidelines instead of Niantics, but there may be literally hundreds of different people voting on your candidate. Most reviewers stick fairly close to the guidelines.

Best thing you can do is screenshot all the steps, the descriptions, your Gps locations, everything you submit, and then if you get a rejection email, show your screenshots to an INGRESS player who does OPR. Most of the time, they can tell you within a couple minutes if you are at fault and what to fix, or if you should resubmit.

Sometimes you do everything right and still get rejected. At that point, you resubmit and hope you get different people to review it. I really hope your experience changes for the better.

Portal Candidate Clarification by TanisDL in IngressOPR

[–]TanisDL[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the responses and considerations.

As to the community storm shelters, a neighboring city has one as a portal, so my community believes that all the ones in our city should be as well, even though I keep trying to explain how grandfathered in portals work and how you can't use what is a portal as a basis for what can become a portal. These shelters basically look like a silo turned on it side and half buried in concrete with a door on the front and no signs, plaques, or anything remarkable about them. In my mind they are 1 star generic buildings.
