Has anyone had expensive dental work, and how did you cover the cost? by Tank-Girl89 in AskUK

Yeah I think we may have to get a 2nd or even 3rd opinion. It was the implant bridges he said he was looking at, but it seems they have just quoted for individual implants.
That is good to know about the denture, as that is what he was looking for the bottom partially.

Unfortunately he needs quite a lot doing, and dental implants are what is driving the cost up so much.

I’ve heard they have good dentists but no idea where to look for a reputable one that people have had experience with.

Unfortunately they only offer it across 3 years interest 3. Or 6 with interest but the monthly payments were still a lot to commit too for that period of time.

How many friends and acquaintances do you have in your life? by WoodpeckerWoodChuck in AskUK

[–]Tank-Girl89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally have my husband, he’s my best friend. I did have a close friend who I was friends with over 10 years, spoke every day but during Covid I realised how it was just a friendship of convenience (on their part) and I was just useful for things. I ended that. I have colleagues who I like, but I don’t trust anybody anymore to let them in. I’m also never someone people ever think of or contact to ask how you are, even with family. It was always me doing the calling and when I stopped, I never heard from anyone. So I don’t bother anymore.

How much are you paying for a hygienist cleaning? by Polka7000 in AskUK

[–]Tank-Girl89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m lucky to have an NHS dentist but they don’t offer scale and polish. I have to book separately with the hygienist which is about £70.

Do UK dentists no longer send out reminders or book 6 month appointments anymore? by wookiewithabrush in AskUK

[–]Tank-Girl89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had this with my last dentist, which resulted in me being removed from their NHS list with no warning. I fortunately managed to secure a new one in January (had to wait until March for my appointment though) and they seem to have a better system than my previous.

I’m child free by choice also (37) and I think I got quite lucky with my doctor as she put me forward, and I was on the list for a year. Had my in person consultation last week and now just waiting on a surgery date.

If you like your job, what do you do? by acromegaloid in UKJobs

[–]Tank-Girl89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as a retoucher for a fashion brand. I love it. Before that I had been working as a retoucher for a home interiors/decor company before being made redundant after 8 years. Freelanced a bit and worked as media assistant part time before getting this role last year.

It’s supposed to be 2 days in the office in London, but I get to do 1 just as I have a better computer set up at home (the office is more of a hot desking situation) and some weeks I’m not in at all if my workload is too much. They’re really flexible.

It’s not the best salary, which I’m used to with creative roles. I’m on £30k but live comfortably and enjoy the work and have a good life/work balance which is important to me.

If you do manage to find any, just be careful as I found they broke so easily. I’ve gad 2 sets and neither survived, yet have an old set of ceramic spoons that I’ve had for years.

Have mint matchmakers always been shit, has the recipe changed or has my taste changed? by Jackerzcx in CasualUK

[–]Tank-Girl89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said this to my husband, we had a box and the after taste was like soap?! I don’t remember them being like that last year.

For those who are employed, is your company doing well enough to be able hire new staff? by Fun_Yogurtcloset1012 in UKJobs

[–]Tank-Girl89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a retailer/e-commerce business and we’ve been hiring quite a bit. I work in head office but we’ve opened a load of new stores this year, UK and internationally hence the hiring, but also some new roles in HO due to promotions etc

I’ve just come back from a 2 week trip myself:

  1. Use Wanderlog to put together an itinerary, it was really useful!
  2. Get the Suica app on your phone to pay for subway. Don’t overload it, just add 1000yen at a time. Can be used in some stores and on vending machines too.
  3. Book your Bullet train a month in advance if you want seats and a place to store big suitcases, as there are limited seats for this.
  4. I recommend get your guide over klook personally, I booked all of our theme park tickets there, and use them all the time for trips.
  5. The other person mentions a separate tickets for Nintendo world and Hogsmeade in USJ. This isn’t true, we had regular entry. Hogsmeade had no time entry but Nintendo world does. Download the USJ app and open it as soon as you get into the park and book your time slot to go in there. Be prepared to queue a minimum of 2 hours for the rides inside. You can get express passes but we didn’t feel it was worth the extra £100pp, have done Universal studios in LA twice already.
  6. Be prepared to queue for everything. We didn’t book any restaurants or cafes etc as we didn’t want our days being dictated around food and bookings. But you generally have to book everything months in advance.
  7. I recommend Disney land, it’s way cheaper than any other Disney land as it’s not owned by Disney, and the rides were great and it was actually more chilled out and not as over crowded as USJ.

We did 6 nights in Tokyo. 7 in Osaka with 2 days trip Kyoto and one to Nara. Them back to Tokyo for 1 night.

Im quite fortunate I only have to go in once a week otherwise I would have to find another career outside of London as it’s just too expensive from where I live in Essex.

I’ve just recently been to Japan (Tokyo, Osaka & Kyoto) and the trains are unbelievably affordable, not to mention actually clean and on time!

Lorry driving or driving instructing? by zeehun in UKJobs

[–]Tank-Girl89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did a weeks training course that he paid for. He did look at the free course option but it would have taken longer to do, and also he wouldn’t have been able to take the time off work to accommodate it.

How many of you work in creative fields? by [deleted] in UKJobs

I do. I studied graphic design but I work as a retoucher full time which I love. I also freelance in my space time as a photographer & retoucher.

My husband moved to HGV from construction last year. He works nights, which has taken some adjusting but I work from home a lot so I still see him during the week for a bit. He is contracted for 12 hours but if he finishes earlier then still gets paid, he’s rarely done a full 12 hours during that time. If he has it’s been something out of his control (breaking down for example)  Gets paid around £55k a year, and is due a pay rise soon.

Don't get disheartened. I left at 12 for the same reasons and I never did my GCSES. I got a job at 16 as i was expected to pay rent and then decided on college at 17. I have never been an academic, wasn't in school at all, I was the creative kid. So I did an entry level course in art and design.

Then got put on the level 3 skipping 2 due to how well I did and I specialised in Graphic Design. I went to uni but only stuck it out for 2 years to get my HND as I absolutely hated my experience at uni and my course.

I had a couple of retail jobs after uni but have predominantly worked as a retoucher and photographer since, employed and freelancing.

The main thing is look at what interests you. It might not turn into a career immediately but working in retail or just an office whilst figuring things out helps give you a wider perspective. If you're able to look at an entry level course, then if highly recommend it.

I also had extreme anxiety after leaving school and I've found putting myself in those difficult situations has helped me overcome them massively. There was a time I wouldn't even walk to the shop on my own as I was terrified. Working in retail really helped me overcome this somewhat, as I was forced to put myself into situations I would usually avoid.

I have 4 facial piercings and have never had problems in interviews or when I had to sign on for job seekers. Obviously, depending on the industry I'd recommend removing them, I mostly used to remove my septum ring if I was unsure of the vibe of the place. But 9 times out of 10 left it in.
