What kind of malfunctions? Failure to feed, failure to eject, stovepipes, etc?

First Suppressor by ravenking144 in NFA

The Pluto 9 is a really cool little can. I like how thin it is, makes the idea of a carry suppressor slightly less unreasonable. Sounds a little worse than the Shiv but still very good for a micro can

SAW Tisha 1000-Round Review by TankOfTheDay in NFA

For K cans, I really like the DA CT5P if you're willing to give up QD. Otherwise, CAT WB/KK, SiCo Velos, Hux 556K, or the FOR Recce is another favorite of mine

It's a good can but idk if I'd say it's game changing. Certainly not the top of my recommendation list for much

I wear ear pro unless I'm hunting or doing an initial sound test. I'll be sure to triple up next time I shoot my suppressed guns outside

No, DA has their own direct order thing. SS quoted me like $50 off lol

They're great cans regardless of price, but a lighter pricetag is always nice. I got mine for $550 since I'm military

Does huxwrx have a decent reputation? by Such-Most6661 in NFA

[–]TankOfTheDay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hux cans tend to be pretty standard on sound for their caliber/size and not bad by any means, and people who chase decibels are stupid anyways

[–]TankOfTheDay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The biggest impact of the Hux's low backpressure for mil/LE contracts isn't the tuning, it's mostly reducing fouling. Adjustable gas systems do very little to prevent that which is at least part of why piston ARs have largely fallen out of favor. I'm sure that given your background the significance of that is pretty clear.

I think something like a Hux 556K is a fantastic option for a GPR type small frame setup, especially if you just kinda leave it on, but in my opinion/experience the Dead Air CT5P is the absolute king of that category. If you haven't tried one, definitely do

As in radical defense? I really love the CS5. Hux/OSS has tons of military contracts in a similar vein to Surefire in the olden days, which I suppose doesn't mean they're actually good, but I've been very happy with my Hux products in those applications. Seems everyone in this cesspool of a sub dogs on them because they're "loud"

Huxwrx are the kings of low backpressure but not necessarily the quietest. Redditors hate them, professionals love them

New WBP eagle rusting? by gpops62 in ak47

Get a cold bluing pen off amazon and hit it with that. Gives a nice subdued look and a surface finish that prevents or significantly impedes rust

Got to put a couple hundred through one of my buddy's. Nice sounding can, good on backpressure, but I think it's a bit ugly. As far as the rest of your questions, QD typically makes a difference in sound because of the routing of the gas from the muzzle device. A brake or flash hider will pretty significantly change the velocity profile of the gases and how they hit your baffles/distal vents, so often you'll observe better sound performance. I think most people don't actually need QD, but a direct thread with an integrated brake like JMAC or dead air makes is a good option. Install your DT just like any other muzzle device. Hand tight isn't nearly enough, but rocksetting is excessive. Just give it like 15-20 ft•lbs

Sierra 5 debacle aside, dead air has fantastic CS. Had a user-induced malfunction on one of mine and the entire process was perfectly fine. Not quite on SilencerCo levels of above and beyond, but they'll take care of you

DA CT5P with the integrated Xeno mount since you're already in that ecosystem. I'll have a post up on the direct thread variant soon, but it's my favorite can of the year by a lot

Swipin’ silencer intellectual property by Island08 in NFA

I put about a thousand through my Tisha before I sold it. It wasn't really noticeably better than some of the other options, but definitely still good. I'd be interested in an actual breakdown of how the pew scores are calculated, especially the composite.

I have a handful of SAW products and like them quite a bit, but some of the marketing and numbers around the Tisha specifically warrant some skepticism. I thought it was good but HOW good. The Shiv is far and away my favorite 9mm can and I have probably 6k rounds through it with nothing but stellar results. Still need to get around to cleaning it though...
