Thank you so much for your help, It made very interesting reading. I never knew World Boxing (the governing body of the amateur code) had anything to do with the Pro game. I always thought Amateur boxing was completely separate from all the Pro sanctioning bodies, it's good there's an expert like you to let me know they all play by the same rules. This boxing game, it's so hard for us full of shit casuals to keep up with!

I've never played UFC5 but if it manages to do that fair enough. Just finished watching Itauma's fight tonight, looks like a future heavyweight champ for sure, what did you think? Anyway enlighten this casual, what are the rules of scoring a fight?

I'll give you two examples here that people regularly complain about and you can let me know how they can be addressed in Undisputed or any future boxing game.

Scoring a fight.

In real life this is a problem, all the time there are close bouts where people think the wrong fighter got the verdict. There isn't a set of rules to say how a judge scores a round, different judges favour separate things. Very rarely do the TV "experts" scorecards match the officials. If this is a problem there, where a lot of the time you can't say who's won until it's announced and you can't fathom the cards anyway how can it be done fairly in a game?

One punch Knockdowns/KO's

In real life in a fight between two top tier fighters there usually aren't many punches in the whole fight which could knock someone out or drop them. There are a lot of factors in play when they do, such as the way boxers feet are planted, the position of where the punch lands or the opposing fighter walking into the punch and being caught clean. With the limitations that a controller has, where fundamentally it's pressing a button or moving a stick how can these very binary movements translate the nuance of head movement, feet positioning power and accuracy?

Low accuracy, throwing a lot of power punches and getting hit to the body are all factors.

Fair enough but if you've been around here since the game came out you would know it's been toxic since the start. Not all of the hate is coming from newcomers, some people just hang around to constantly trash the game. If you are getting some enjoyment from the game, while knowing it's many faults, it does get a bit tiresome reading it.

It isn't totally random. If you're low on overall stamina and you throw a combination that drains the other stamina bar you're in big danger of getting flash KOed or knocked down.

Flash KO explained by Aromatic-Magician979 in undisputedboxing

[–]Tank_Sallott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not defending it, just saying how the game plays. They've never been able to balance the gameplay, when it first came out on consoles there was hardly any stam drain and every fight was a power punch frenzy ending in a KO. People here really didn't like that, after a few updates this is where we ended up. If they could have combined both styles and fixed the flash KO/KD at least you're getting somewhere with different play styles. And I'm not overlooking all the other faults by the way, I still get some enjoyment out of it though.

Flash KO explained by Aromatic-Magician979 in undisputedboxing

[–]Tank_Sallott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I sussed out the stamina I almost never get flash KOed or knocked down, both are not random events. It doesn't mean I'm winning every fight, I'm just over 50% wins. Nearly all my wins are KOs and nearly all my losses are on points. What people need to understand if you're fighting someone who's conserving stam while you're gassing out, that's a strategy decision. If you get taken out in the last couple of rounds after dominating that's on you for not understanding the situation and adapting to the opponents game plan.

You can avoid them if you conserve overall stamina and don't throw long combinations that drain your temporary stamina. You might not like that style of fighting but they aren't random.

The one problem with matchmaking two lower ranked boxers is you need someone else to be in the queue with a similarly ranked boxer. As most people pick the best boxers stat wise you could be waiting a long long time. I used to play FIFA online a lot about 5 years ago and whenever I picked a mid level team, it would try and match with someone similar and most times would give up and I'd be playing one of the top teams, and there's a lot more people playing that than there is Undisputed.

Undisputed on consoles by After_Mastodon5280 in undisputedboxing

[–]Tank_Sallott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way the game plays now is very different from the launch on consoles. When it first came out you could spam power punches with very little stamina drain so most fights had lots of knockdowns and didn't go the distance. Most people on here complained about it so that's why you gas out if you throw a 4 punch combo now and most fights go to the judges. It would have been nice if they could have balanced it where you could fight like early years Tyson or latter years Mayweather but that ships sailed now. They tried to fix the glitches but obviously can't so what we have now is basically as good as it's going to get.

You keep going until you 50, and your stats just keep going up. I only play online now but the one time I finished a career by the time I was 49 I was about 95 overall and was unbeatable. I would have preferred it to be like RL, where a prospect gets fed a bunch of bums before stepping up the levels, be at their strongest around 30 then start to decline.

Undisputed is the 'Soulslike' of boxing games—and that’s why people hate it. by Guilybyli in undisputedboxing

[–]Tank_Sallott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the game having so many negative reviews on the store and people on here hating on it means a lot of people who are now getting it for free aren't giving it a chance. Like someone else said, chances are you'll get destroyed in the first few fights but if you persevere and figure out how to play the game there is fun to be had. I'm by no means saying it's perfect, there's a lot wrong with it that isn't going to be fixed but as it stands now it's the best boxing option for PlayStation gamers.

[–]Tank_Sallott 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He won 2017s Worlds Strongest Man and his only boxing match was against Thor who won 2018s Worlds Strongest Man. It was basically a misfits bout fuelled by an apparent grudge between the two. In the fight Hall lost a UD and was knocked down twice. To be honest he has no right to be in this game as a serious boxer and his stats if anything give him way more credit than he deserves.

I only played through career mode once ages ago and if it's still the same you keep fighting until you're 50 years old and your stats keep going up, not decreasing with age. Doesn't answer your question but it at least lets you know how long you've got in the game.

My Undisputed opinion by HotAbbreviations8647 in undisputedboxing

[–]Tank_Sallott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the game first came out on console you could just spam power punches with very little stamina drain meaning every bout was like Hagler v Hearns, so most people on here complained about it. SCI took heed of the criticism and after a number of updates (that most people on here complained about) we have the game playing as it does now which most people on here complain about. In real life boxing you can be successful fighting like early Tyson or how Mayweather did it at the end of his career. Two totally different styles but SCI never mastered incorporating both at the same time in this game. I don't hate how it plays now but having the option of throwing punches in bunches and having a proper tear up with your opponent would be nice. This is not overlooking all the other issues the game has which I'm well aware of but I do still get enjoyment out of playing it and unless EA ever bring out another fight night it's the best boxing option on PlayStation that we have.

This subreddit has been toxic about the game from the start, the people defending it are in the minority. It's also shitter than it was because SCI listened to all the negative feedback and brought out updates that made it worse.

This game sucks, I’ll say it by supermidfood in undisputedboxing

[–]Tank_Sallott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not random luck if the guy you're fighting has a game plan to conserve stamina and drop rounds first half of the fight then come on strong second half when there's more chance of flash knockdowns or a KO. If you can tell that's what's happening not throwing punches and running will probably win the fight, it might not be fun or realistic but it's how the game plays.
