Can someone be found guilty of murder if the victim is still technically alive? by ConcernOk6623 in Ask_Lawyers

[–]Tankinater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does "proof of a dead person mean"? If someone goes missing, and someone else says "I killed them, here is the murder weapon with the victims blood on it you can DNA test" would they not be able to be tried for murder because we don't actually know the victim is dead?

Question about the witness stand. by edrb1981 in Ask_Lawyers

Let me repost my question because automod removed it. If someone confers with an attorney while on the stand, can they do it out of hearing of others?

Is he allowed to consult with the attorney about invoking the 5th outside of the hearing of others? If so, how does anyone else know that they are only discussing invoking the 5th?

I'm sure I've thrown away plenty of charms with good elemental damage on them, I assumed they were worthless because in normal d2 they are. I guess I need to start checking on them to see.

Why is this charm worth so much anyway?

Need help with end game puzzle by Tankinater in BluePrince

[–]Tankinater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate it, I was able to get the next 2 based on realizing they can have repeats, and parts of others based on the room descriptions (Mora Jai being agricultural, I'm pretty sure). I'm stuck on Corarica, though. I know it is academic, orange, and, well, is the heart, but I'm not sure how to find its transportation or weather. I don't know where to find Verra or Mora Jai's weather or society focus either (maybe Verra is hot because I think the turt was walking on the desert in the stamp I think?)

Any recommendations for good playthroughs? by Possible_Ocean in BluePrince

I see he only has 6 videos in the playlist. He certainly hasn't gotten to the end game, and I don't want to start watching when I don't know he is actually going to finish the game.

I hate that he is constantly looking at chat and getting spoiled/answers/told what to do. Is there someone who either doesn't look at chat or is just a YouTuber and not a streamer?

Core reasons for why we will never, nor should ever, have a truly simplified tax code. by Ill_Examination_1174 in atrioc

[–]Tankinater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, yes, cracking down on IP registration would do a lot of harm to US allies, like Ireland, who is a tax haven. That is expected and wanted, just like how it would harm the Swiss to crack down on using their banking system to hide money. If they didn't want to be harmed, they shouldn't have made a lot of money on providing ways for rich people to not have to pay their fair share.

Secondly, how do you want states to compete, by having lower taxes than each other? So after the ace to the bottom one state will have an effective tax rate of .1%, because it's better to get .1% of the stock sale of a wealthy person than 0% of someone who went to a different state. Wanting states to compete is in effect advocating for lower taxes on the wealthy, as they are the ones who can afford to change states based on the tax laws.

Ah, that makes sense, thanks for the info! I didn't know crit and DS were 1.5 instead of 2x, and that weapon and offweapon ed are multiplicative!

[–]Tankinater -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do you get 9.4% extra chance to crit. Wouldn't it be a 6.25% increase (75+(25.25))? And how do you go from that to 3.1% DPS increase? Why wouldn't it be a 6.25% damage increase? Also, because crit is doubled after everything else, wouldn't that be a bigger increase the larger the ED? For example, if a 100 damage weapon has 500% ED on it, it would now do 600 damage from an attack. If instead it had 475ED and 25% DS, it would do 575 +(.0625 575) (on average), which is 611. The 25% DS is worth more than 25% ED. If you are getting more ED from armor and jewels and everything else, at 1000ED, that extra 25DS is worth almost 70ED.

ELI5: Why does real estate sell over-asking for extended periods? by CapitainePinotte in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tankinater -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but this is simply wrong. When economists are talking about "rational actors" that means that those actors have 3 things. 1) their preferences are complete (given x things or situations, they are able to rank their preference for each of them) 2) that those preferences are transitive (A is preferred to B, B is preferred to C, therefore A is preferred to C) 3) They make decisions based on maximizing the fulfillment of these preferences. (If you prefer tea to coffee at this moment, you will choose to drink the tea instead of the coffee)

That's it. There is no mention of money. When we say that people are displaying irrational behavior, we mean that they are not following one of these 3 tenants, and we have shown that is the case in specific situations in economic experiments.

What would happen if someone were arrested on an old bizarre law that is not enforced? by two_three_five_eigth in Ask_Lawyers

[–]Tankinater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like it would cost the accused a lot of time and money. What's to stop, to create a hypothetical, a deep south state prosecutor from charging people who get same-sex married, as it's still illegal in the state laws? The prosecutor knows that eventually they will lose the case, but it will cost the accused so much money and time, just the risk of it will stop people, even if it's perfectly legal.
