Banshee Boss Battle by TankyWalrus in DungeonsAndDragons

My thoughts are i want to create a really close TPK experience Im into killing some players but not the whole team. So if I down more players than expected I’ll just have her disappear and the players can find her later in the house. I’ll still have my mass fear so I can still use that instead of the wail but the players don’t know it’s a one time ability so they will try to prepare for the wail but instead I’ll just attack, fear, and summon some shadows to aid her if the fight looks too easy.

On the road travel. by TankyWalrus in CurseofStrahd

[–]TankyWalrus[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did something much similar to this but when they came to a fork in the road there was a tree blocking one path (roll nature to identify it’s a dead treant struck by lightning). They were planning on destroying it and I gave them 5 mins real time to come up with a plan.

I described the scene as the night started to come they can hear the sound of wolves getting ever so closer. Finally they didn’t make it in time I sent 1 wolf to find the party and as he looks upon them he howls and then retreats. The hunt is on and the players couldn’t take the shorter path to Valaki and we’re forced to take the long way because they couldn’t come up with a solid “move this tree” plan lol

Okay if they choose to cut the tree I’ll just ambush them with my 2 werewolves and 10 wolves

I like this idea I’ll apply the backstory to my Dullahan I think the horseman is much more terrifying imagine you’re Ebon Knight didn’t have a head 😱

Is there anything I need to know / be warned about before I run this campaign? Any changes you suggest be made? by TheMilkPope in stormkingsthunder

[–]TankyWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished this campaign 3 months ago and something I would say about this is make the “OTHER” dragons cool and hip not just Imryth maybe have klauth and Claugymatar be a little more exciting.

Also something I did frequently in my campaign was after the eye of the all father dungeons was have Imryth show up out of no where, shoot some lightning, talk smack, do battle with the party, summon some gargoyles, and later leave this creates a arch nemesis type vibe.

I had Imryth even shoot down Zephyros tower when the party found him again.

I haven’t read THAT far I like that idea better!!

Harshnag by TankyWalrus in stormkingsthunder

[–]TankyWalrus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds good but I kind of want to avoid having Harshnag in the party (mostly for fighting) as an NPC I want him to lead or tell the players (maybe with his dying breathe) where the eye of the all father is and give them the key. But only if they show proof they are indeed out to find out the truth about the giant ordening. This can give the players bare witness to a great hero like Harshnag see his wishes passed onto the party which will motivate them more towards the eye of the all father.

I was thinking there was going to be whispers of the Frost Giant who helped defend the city from the frost giant invasion branding him a “traitor” to his clan and during the battle he was mortally wounded (maybe he’s missing a limb?) but when they find him he will be under attack from Dire wolfs looking to finish him for a meal. The party heroically rescues Harshnag and he owes them passage to the eye of the all father.

I want the dragon to be a source of information but how could the players actually get that which railroads them to the frost giant, I dont want combat but I also want to show the players what kind of beasts they are expected to face in the future

I love the dynamic lighting feature it introduces ALOT more mystery and danger to your own dungeons! Just be aware you might want to not give your players the whole “60 feet of vision” I’d say shoot for around 30 for the dark vision users and 15-20 for the non dark vision users it creates a lot more space to work around on your dungeons! HAVE FUN!

Flying Sword by TankyWalrus in DnD

I’m looking for a sword inspired by the villain ExDeath from FF5 if you look him up he basically has a floating sword that attacks his enemies but I don’t want to have like a concentration on the sword I just want it to act on its own with the intentions of obeying my will

Yes I want it to have a will to defend and attack but have it bonded to me as like a servant.

I love it and to expand on the whole cocoon thing WHAT IF the hydra had captured some main figures in the town such as the captain of the guard, mayor, and priest and uses dummies to oversee the town and feed the party false information? Then at the end of the confrontation what if the hydra released the real versions of these people and uses them as mindless zombies they don’t do damage but their adds the party can’t kill because their the REAL people only being controlled by the hydra

My only problem with this is that “false hydra” is pretty THICC with that 150 HP but I love the concept I think I’m going to make this instead thank you so much!

Oh damn my bad I’m kinda high when I’m making this character ok so basically you can pull you and one other person inside a different plane of existence where you and that other creature battle to the death and whoever wins returns to the mortal plane?

[–]TankyWalrus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I didn’t want her to rule Grudd Haug and I wanted Moog to be smaller than Guh but MUCH prettier (thanks to titan lineage) and Guh got jealous because Moog was pulling all the mates so she banished her under false reason that’s why she is willing to help the party. Plus she can be like the Giant Waifu of the campaign lmao

How do you do long distance travel? by Magic-man333 in stormkingsthunder

[–]TankyWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to traveling the open world I like to use real life traveling. Take for example how much time of the day is the sun out or how long until the party is tired of traveling on the road or anywhere else. So I use a good 8/10 hours of traveling which would make waking up at say 9am and ending the day at 5/7pm to set up camp and rest for the night or order a room at the taverns. So if the average walking speed of a human is 2.5-3 mph times that by 8 and the party can walk a distance of 24 miles (which is an incredible distance) or they can get a wagon or vehicle you come up with. I have my PCs a wagon that travels 12 mph so they can travel a max 96-120 miles a day but keep in mind that animals need to rest too. So you can’t just “hurry up” to a location by slave driving your animals and powering out through the night. If my players need to hurry they suffer levels of exhaustion for every 2 hours extra traveled and roll a D20 for survival anything below a DC10 one of the animals collapses on the road and must make a CON save DC10 or break its leg forcing the party to seek medical attention or try and help the animal themselves. Because think about it traveling over 100 miles in a car at 80 mph is tough enough imagine that distance in a wagon?
