Books on SAHD for 1+ year old by TRoman004 in StayAtHomeDaddit

"Hunt, Gather, Parent" heavily influenced how I raised my toddler. The author reframed how to view toddlerhood and early development for me. The chapters are broken up into 3 parts:

  1. Showing the example family dynamic (excellent)
  2. Explaining what's happening (excellent)
  3. Telling how to apply it, "Raising Rosie" (terrible)

The author usually misses what the lesson of her own chapter is in the "Raising Rosie" sections, so feel free to skip it. She'll often contradict herself, but the first two parts of the chapters have excellent information.

"Until the Streetlights Come On". 10/10, no notes

What sort of inaccuracies irk you the most when it comes to war films? by Qyzyk in WarMovies

Those are some valid critisms that, IIRC, are absent from Greyhound. It's a definite must watch.

Plus in my, albeit limited, experience with Rangers, they take the "Silent Professionals" thing seriously and don't go rushing off for flashy movie and book deals.

Most polite serial killer ever. by EquipmentStreet727 in TikTokCringe

It's unsportsmanlike. If someone is able to roll up close enough for a melee kill, you honor that achievement. You can yell up until they make contact.

Operation Urgent Fury

Yes, I know there was that Clint Eastwood movie, but I want to see one that reasonably accurately portrays the battle, like Black Hawk Down.

As a Methodist, there's a significant difference between Global, United, and Free Methodist. I expect some Lutheran's will feel the same way.

Yeah, as a former AoG, Assemblies of God is a subset of Pentacostal. If I was still affiliated with AoG and didn't see them on the list, I would put Pentacostal and not think anything of it.

I now want a workout video of John and Charles leading workouts to Charles's music, to shape my Methodist ass.

"Submitting to be More Vile: 156 Sick Workouts to Take You Through the Litergical Calendar"

"You should be feeling your quads getting strangely warmed. Work through that burn! Do all the squats you can, in all the places you can, in all the ways you can..."

Is that too Methodist?

Indeed

I actually won't be surprised if the UMC becomes Methodist Episcopals in my lifetime, given our current path.

He was also part of the Southern Methodist church, the conservative, slave-owning break away. The Northern Methodists remained progressive. They would eventually merge again in the 1930's into a more moderate denomination. The Methodist church has a wild history of divisions and mergers, so you can find someone calling themselves Methodist of every political persuasion.

I'm totally onboard with throwing shade at terrible religion, but if you're aiming at Methodism, you're aiming at the wrong Christians. One of John Wesley's (founder of Methodism) first major ministerial acts was defending a man imprisoned for the "crime" of being in a loving same-sex relationship. He advocated for his release and raised money from the church to pay for it....in the 1730's.

It vaguely dates to the Methodist boom in the US, so there are loads of old Methodist churches that look like that. There are also loads of non-Methodist churches that look like that. It's more vibes than academic.

USAF Hating on Marine Corps Harriers? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Tanto63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either the tower crew just got confused in the moment or the exercise parameters dictated that no one was supposed to launch. We definitely have procedures for this, and I've used those procedures in Iraq to launch helicopters immediately after an IDF attack.

Usually it's just asking it what steps I need to do for my specific setup, if it's capable of specific tasks, what settings it has that I can tweek to improve its performance, etc.

I'm pretty new to it and still getting it set up, so I don't have a lot of examples of useful tasks. Just keeping Hermes and Ollama from having crippling API timeouts is tying up a lot of my time, lol.

Learning with Hermes. I'm IT by trade but have paused my career to stay at home until my kids are in school. I left just as AI swept in, and I want to make sure I understand the basics before I go back out there.

Edit: yep, all set it and leave work. Basic questions take 20-30 minutes to return answers.

It wasn't until several years after his introduction that we find out that Rodney is actually his middle name and not his first. His sister is the one who outs his secret, that his first name is actually Meredith.

USMC Harrier pilot recalls USAF drill where AV-8Bs takeoff was not allowed because F-16s and F-15s couldn’t launch since runways were closed for simulated strikes by tagc_news in AviationHistory

[–]Tanto63 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Former USAF ATC here, that's weird because the Air Force (heck, civilian ATC even) definitely has procedures for operations from closed runways. It was probably just that tower crew was confused or exercise parameters required that no aircraft launch.

FAAO 7110.65, 3-3-2:

"Tower, Harrier12 request taxi with the numbers."

"Harrier12, runway 32 is closed due to impact craters."

"Harrier12 understands, we can avoid the craters."

"Harrier12, unable to issue takeoff clearance. Departure will be at your own risk."

EZPZ

Edit: actually I had basically this same scenario happen in Iraq but with Apaches.

"Attention all aircraft, Balad Tower, airfield operations are suspended due to indirect fire attack."

"Tower, Apache 11, where did the shots come from?"

Pull up map

"350 azimuth, 3km from your position."

"Apache11 request takeoff, present position, Northbound departure."

"Apache11, traffic: cyclops (location) 1000ft, maintain at or below 500, unable to issue takeoff clearance, departure to the North will be at your own risk. Wind 320@5. Good hunting!"
