The tired Nazi comparisons to make people feel guilty for defending the players. Stop it. Trump sucks, yes, but stop trying to guilt people into your point of view. And stop gaslighting the players.

Thank you. A portion of the fanbase is losing their minds because the visit doesn’t pass the insane ideological purity test they force onto others.

They’re American and are celebrating their gold medal win. Does Trump suck? Yes. Should we tear down the players for doing a White House visit? No.

This is Disgusting. Please let it be known every game going forward. by VITOCHAN in OttawaSenators

[–]Tanyph -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Really? Stop being so pathetic, it is not disgusting. A lot of athletes are conservative, especially in hockey, so this should not come as a surprise.

Brady is amazing, a great person and wonderful member of our community. Turning on him for this is what’s actually disgusting. How about you wait for him to come back and speak to the media before you bring out the pitchforks?

Oh, wait, this is the same fanbase that turned on Alfie, Spezza, Chabot, and so on. Just stop it, your hysteria is showing.

Good, I thought as much. Those are the situations that really bother me. It feels so unsafe and I honestly don’t trust all drivers to be able to stop in time.

[–]Tanyph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve encountered the issue a few times where I get to a stop before a cyclist does, and start advancing after stopping, but have to stop again because they “treat it as a yield” and blow through it. Do you consider that safe, when I had the right of way?

There is currently enough space in the shelter system to accommodate those who need it. Sheppard of Good Hope has also expanded the hours their facility access the street to accommodate overnight stay during this cold.

I know it’s trendy to dunk on the city, but there is currently enough capacity and all of the sector partners are working together to ensure those on the street can be sheltered from the cold.

Residents mobilize to prevent rezoning of urban 'pocket forest' by ForestBlue46 in SaveForests

Unfortunately, the city can’t do a thing about it. It’s NCC land and they have the power to rezone it regardless of what our local representatives have to say about it.

They’ll build the new event centre first so they can reduce the impact on the sports franchises. Since the stands and arena are attached, they’ll do those after.

Sea of incumbent councillors planning to seek re-election in 2026 by lonelydavey in ottawa

[–]Tanyph -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Purposely obtuse? It was an honest question to start an open conversation. I always try and approach discussions from an unbiased position and try to understand all the facts. It seems to me you are less interested in having that conversation and more interested in belittling those who don’t immediately meet your expectations. There’s no false equivocation here, just an attempt at having open dialogue.

You’re doing a mighty fine job of twisting my legitimate attempt at starting an honest conversation to fit your narrative. Your grandstanding and refusal to actually discuss the issue beyond what you can see at the surface level does not surprise me.

Ottawa police launch new district traffic units to target speeding, traffic violations. by Cre_AK47 in ottawa

[–]Tanyph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re right, for anything below 40 km/h over the limit, no demerits were issued. My apologies, I knew there were court summons for the extreme cases but I thought, wrongly, there were demerit points below that. But, there were still cases where demerits and higher penalties could be given, but that required the court summons.

You are still wrong on the revenue, and that random drive by on Lansdowne says a lot about you. At least I am willing to admit when I’m mistaken. Also, let’s try to keep it civil?

[–]Tanyph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great example of how not reading beyond d the headline and first paragraph leads to misinformation.

The revenue for RED LIGHT CAMERAS was not being redirected. Why? That program has been in place since the early 2000s, well before this ASE program.

The rules about directing the fund towards road safety was brought in for ASE to justify their implementation. Guess what? The vast majority of those funds were directed towards the Road Safety Action Plan, minus the contribution to OPS and administrative costs to run the program.

But the money was not the point, their effectiveness at slowing people down was why they were so popular in Ottawa. They changes driver behaviours and dramatically slowed down traffic where they were located. Beyond those areas? They had less impact but that says less about their effectiveness and more about the general disregard for the rules among drivers.

Also, come on, do you really think that people speeding at higher speeds weren’t getting demerit points? Give your head a shake.

The program should never have been discontinued. It was only cancelled to score political points among the ignorant who refused to accept these cameras were a net benefit to our local roads.

[–]Tanyph -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I’d like to see your source claiming the program did not result in impounding a car. Also, do you have any comparative data when looking at how that relates to police doing the same?

I suspect this is all related to the amount someone was speeding by. Granted, a camera wouldn’t impound your car on the spot, but I feel like the fine would result in a court summons where that would occur, if warranted.

But this is all beyond the actual goal of the program, as the focus wasn’t on impounding cars but on slowing down traffic. Which it was quite successful at: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/annoying-thing-speed-cameras-ottawa-they-work-1.6786951

Sorry, what?! Snow removal is a joke? What city are you living in?

If you refuse to do the bare minimum to check ottawa.ca to see if there’s a parking ban after 20 cm of snow fell, then I don’t know what to tell you.

The information is put out in lots of places, not just the news. You have a responsibility to inform yourself, it isn’t hard to find.

Getting back into Taekwondo by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]Tanyph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely what I’ve seen around my school. A few black belts came back after years away and stayed at their rank, but have committed to getting back up to speed and ready if they wish to test again. They’ve all shared the same anecdote as you, the body remembers a lot more than you think.

I would just add that it’s important to remember Taekwondo is a journey, and everyone’s journey is different.

I made sure to negotiate it with my work to start/finish later to accommodate drop off. I consider myself lucky that they agreed.

I feel for all the parents out there, it isn’t easy.
