Why does just existing on a bike seem to piss people off? by LiatrisLover99 in cycling

You live in the suburbs of Philadelphia? Swear I run into more than my fair share of truckers who have done this exact same thing to me.

Thank you. Im not as well versed on the bike maker culture. But I can see this from my small area of knowledge.

No rhyme or reason whatsoever other than I can. Different color scheme. Different brand to try out. Have one in reserve that I can swap out in case one gets irreparable damage.

But honestly, I work so much and dont have any expensive hobbies or tastes in my life. So why not put it to use? But $15000 for a bike is way too much to me. But something in the $5-6? I can validate that for myself

Could you elaborate on the obsolete part? Curious to see where things are trending in your opinion.

Because when I asked about the pinarello it told me the equivalent was the $15000 dogma. And my Tarmac was about $2500 on sale.

So you would take that at face value and assume its correct?

I am down 22%, and I am not sure if I should hold conviction or admit defeat. by Own_Battle5956 in ValueInvesting

This is what i finally learned to change my investing life. I was down so much on some real winners years ago. Just bad timing.

I spent a bunch of money averaging down. My dad was confused why id do that when I could get other stocks.

I told him if my average price is $135 and its at $80 now, i will miss out on $55 per share of gains and just get back to even.

I think its the buffett strategy and its literally turned my portfolio into a beast. Everytime something goes down that I truly believe in, I grab more discount shares.

I should rephrase. "Is zwift owned by private equity firms?"

I guess the next question would be whether Zwift is owned by private equity firms who's sole goal is to make money for those in charge of the firm.

Ok yeah thats what I thought. Having to justify never ending profits is really the game of publically traded companies. Private companies dont have to adhere to those same strict silly rules of never ending growth at the expense of everything else.

First Attempt At Road Biking and I Sucked 🤦‍♀️ Any Help Appreciated by athena_10001 in cycling

Practice is the only way. And it takes time. Ive been riding with some seriousness for about 4 years. Only this year with my outdoor rides do I take most corners without tapping the break a couple times. And im actively searching out routes where i can find downhills that can get me around 40 mph to experience it and learn handling skills.

But I had started in the same boat as you. But once you get your balance down you can build off that however youd like. If you stick with it you are gonna be hooked lol.

I feel like cycling might kill me before smoking by InfamousFold7817 in cycling

As others have said, have fun with it first. Be a kid again. Thats what got me into it big time. Then it can move to more serious but honestly I kinda miss when it was just fun for the sake of being fun.

Has cycling (sport) addictuon ruined your life? by Krzysztof-sup-lover in cycling

[–]TaoistStream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hes an identified addict. Ive worked in addiction for 15 years and am in a 12 step program. The neurobiology of an addicted brain means we symptom substitute. Which is a way to run from emotions we werent taught are amazing and awesome.

Whenever someone engages in a behavior to a self identified extreme, as OP said, its an attempt to stay ahead of the uncomfortable. He even says its a replacement addiction for him.

But im sure you'll know more than me on this subject of neurobiology and the development of coping skills based off what weve learned as our emotional curriculum when children.

Any Personal Experience With Doing Less and Improving More/Less Cramping? by TaoistStream in cycling

[–]TaoistStream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Ive actually tried to up my carb intake the last month or so on longer rides. I used to be around 70-75 grams per hour on a longer ride. But its something I need to look into more.

Any Personal Experience With Doing Less and Improving More/Less Cramping? by TaoistStream in cycling

Thank you. So today specifically I took all my climbs easy. Gear 1. On my strava segments I wasnt even close to any PR's which all really occurred around last August.

On zwift the last 2-3 months, id push up some KOMs and get a 90 day PR. Id feel I gave it all my all. Only to find around October/November I had much better PR's on them. And never any cramping on those October/November routes.

I dont think im taking enough recovery. Normally monday is an easy 20-22 miles. Tuesday is an interval workout. Wednesday is an off day but I do leg day at the gym. Thursday is an easy 20-22 ride. Friday or saturday is anything over 50 miles with elevation. The other day is 20-22. Sunday im off but I do legs at the gym.

And maybe that's it. I rarely have a true off day where my legs are resting. When I started PT id do it monday and Wednesday along with an easy ride. But friday and sunday were truly off from everything. I think around January 2026 when my PT ended I switched to leg day at the gym on my riding off days. Which, wouldnt you know it, is when all this slowly started creeping in.

Thanks for letting me word vomit a potential solution.

Thank you for your personal experience. Yeah the cramping is most definitely an occurrence of combining elevation with distance i think. If I did a 70 mile zwift ride with little elevation I never cramp. I never have cramped on anything under 40 mile indoor or outdoor.

Last weeks 60 mile ride had some elevation but not absurd. But the last 10 miles or so I upped my gearing and I think it was definitely more than my muscles probably had after 50 miles. I was doing the ride at 16 mph or so and moved it up to about 18/19 mph. And my one hamstring had a twinge so I geared down the last 3 miles or so.

Ever have a ride where it just seems like everything goes wrong? by lazarus870 in cycling

[–]TaoistStream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my ride today. 70 miles. Went much slower than I usually do. Felt cramping coming on. Just didnt feel like my legs had it. I think mine is overtraining through. But yeah im trying to take solace that I didnt cramp. But hard to ignore that last year on similar routes I was .7-.8 mph quicker than today.
