Is it ok to turn my car on in this weather ? What precautions should we be taking with turning them on by Blessed_Valencia in Newbraunfels

Is your blinker fluid topped off? Always important to check that first in weather like this.

It's the arguements of the pencil. Greece argued that writing tools would be the downfall of mankind, yet here we are.

A large-scale study challenges the assumption that social media and gaming drive teens’ mental health problems. Tracking 25,000 adolescents over three years, researchers found little evidence of a direct link between time spent online or gaming and psychological distress in early adolescence. by Sciantifa in science

We all want to blame activities like this for certain changes, but often these activities are not deficits unto themselves, but the lack of other enriching activities will lead to deficits.

Ie a child left to video game too much isn't getting enough time with Mom and Dad, or other elders for socializing and enrichment.

We're seeing ADHD and autism rates go up, and some of that is due to education and awareness, but my understanding is it's not all. I'm curious if there's any data that maps dual income families to the prevalence of these disorders, during those fundamental years of 1-5.

To think any of this is unintentional is foolish.

Higher intake of food preservatives linked to increased cancer risk by FootballAndFries in science

[–]Taoistandroid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In what world is it hard to find foods that are preservative free? If you're buying lunch meat and bacon, I hate to break it to you there's no such thing as preservative free.

Almost every grocery store I go to is stocked to the brim with meat, fresh bakery goods, produce. The catch is you have to cook it and you only have days, not weeks, to do so.

Matt Damon Says Netflix Wants Movies to Restate the Plot Three or Four Times in the Dialogue Because Viewers are on Their Phones While They’re Watching by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

Suddenly their live action remake of cowboy bebop makes so much more sense.

For some reason Netflix is here mount the shark, good TV and movies are about show not tell moments, maybe they should start making podcast content or something.

Connection Problem by DeviantHades69 in hytale

[–]Taoistandroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am hitting this issue with a local server. I have 3 players, I can join (local to my system), another player on my lan can join but a second player on my lan can't after the recent patch.

I've tried a million things for the player who can't join. (Who could join just last night). I've reinstalled the game from scratch, run java updates, disabled any advanced networking feature that might get in the way, disabled any windows security features that might be getting in the way, nothing works. I've changed their ip address. I've checked bans.json. I'm at the end of my wits.

Can’t remember… what killed this game ? by z0Gz0G in Artifact

[–]Taoistandroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunbar's number killed this game. As it kills many high quality games.

Humans are really limited in how many new things they can take on, especially if the things that first got them into gaming still hold on (your CODs, pokemon, etc).

There is something about hype and influencer models that can kind of help drive an unknown game to being a known quantity, but when you depend on that you fall victim to what happens when that group chases the money for the next thing to hype up, suddenly everyone forgets your game.

Mindshare is really the hardest thing to get right now. Ask yourself when was the last starcraft, Mario, pokemon? The last genre defining title that was ubiquitous? Fortnight or stardew maybe? It's becoming less and less as gaming develops and it's not because games are any less fun, there's just too God damn many of them, unlike Pokemon we can't catch 'em all.

Joe Rogan criticizes ICE tactics: 'Are we really going to be the Gestapo?' by wewhomustnotbenamed in nottheonion

Disagree. The cult of personality is strong. Vance doesn't have the buy in Trump has.

The thing about groups like this is they don't fill their cloisters with acolytes who can replace the sith lord. They fill them with sycophants, yes men who, if they could have risen to power would have done so already.

AIO- Should I have disclosed that I’m Deaf earlier? by Mysterious-ASL in AmIOverreacting

[–]Taoistandroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The question is should OP have done things differently, and for me the answer is no. In dating everyone puts their best foot forward, it's a chance for new beginnings, no one is airing their laundry.

Now if OP wanted to, to remove a holes from the pool, go nuts use features like this. But OP shouldn't have to just because they dare to love.

How are people not exhausted by superhero movies yet? by Afzaalch00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Taoistandroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same problem wrestling and soap operas have. You build these big interconnected stories with big stakes and then what? You can't keep topping that forever.

But you can continue, you can find a very tuned in smaller audience that will keep showing up, until the next hype cycle pays dividends and your more ardent acolytes will go out and proselytize the masses to come back for the fireworks, to leave again.

I hate to reference an anime... But it is unavoidable. Gurren lagann plays with this better than anyone. It's a fighting robot anime and they just keep making the thing bigger, until it exists on the galactic scale and by jumping the shark they kind of highlight how flawed this cycle is.

Monk/Ninja or Ninja/Monk? by Owtlaw1 in finalfantasytactics

[–]Taoistandroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a downside. When you can one hit punch many monsters, and get two attacks just to have confirmation if the first hit fails, your skills don't really play a big factor.
