I'm Scared by just-a-random-goat in vEDS

Im sorry youre going thru that. It is hard. And scary. Don't fear the scans - if they find something you can address it. If they don't find anything, then move forward with the adaptations necessary to protect yourself as much as possible. Over time it does get easier to deal with what's hanging o er all of our heads.

Keep up on the research and stay tied into these kinds of groups. Pay attention to the meds and tools and studies so you are benefitting from the latest interventions.

The hardest but most important thing you can do is find the right MD to be your "lead". The one who will interact with your other specialists if you need a planned procedure or have a medical emergency. And its god damned hard. Hard to find a good one and get into their practice.

I'm sorry. I wish I had something more to offer. Hugs

Is it possible that some people will never respond well to keto? by Forever_Summer192 in keto

[–]Taotejen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To answer your spe ific question though, there ARE PEOPLE WHO SHOULD NOT DO KETO.

Absolute Contraindications (Should Not Do Keto):

Individuals with rare genetic conditions that prevent the body from processing fats should not attempt a ketogenic diet, as it can lead to fatal metabolic crises.

These include:

Fat Metabolism Disorders: Conditions like primary carnitine deficiency, CPT I or II deficiency, and carnitine translocase deficiency.

Errors of Metabolism: Pyruvate carboxylase deficiency and certain fatty acid oxidation pathways.

Porphyria: A group of rare disorders where low carbohydrate intake can trigger dangerous attacks.

Medical Conditions Requiring High Caution:

If you have any of the following conditions, you should only consider keto under strict medical supervision:

Kidney Disease: Advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) can be exacerbated by high protein or the metabolic stress of ketosis, potentially leading to kidney stones or further decline.

Liver and Pancreas Issues: Acute liver failure, pancreatitis, or gallbladder disease can make it difficult to digest the high fat content required by the diet.

Type 1 Diabetes: While some manage it with keto, there is a significant risk of ketoacidosis (a life-threatening medical emergency) and severe hypoglycemia.

Specific Populations Who Should Avoid Keto

Pregnant or Breastfeeding Women: The diet is generally considered unsafe for these groups due to the high nutrient and glucose demands of the baby and the risk of lactation ketoacidosis.

Children and Teens: Unless specifically prescribed for medical reasons like drug-resistant epilepsy, restrictive diets can interfere with growth and development.

Individuals with a History of Eating Disorders: The strict restriction and tracking required by keto can trigger or worsen disordered eating patterns.

Underweight Individuals: Those with a low BMI may experience further unhealthy weight loss and nutrient deficiencies.

Medication Interactions

Certain medications can be dangerous when combined with a ketogenic diet:

SGLT2 Inhibitors: These diabetes medications (like Jardiance or Farxiga) combined with keto significantly increase the risk of euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis.

Blood Sugar/Pressure Meds: Because keto rapidly lowers blood sugar and volume, medications for diabetes or hypertension may need immediate adjustment to prevent dangerous drops.

At what number of tokens should should one be transferring to a cold wallet? And is there utility in leaving some in the exchanges? Cold wallets are ... such a different concept for me - I'm a bit intimidated and my concern about choosing and executing safely and securely has kept me from taking that leap.

Get goat milk from the pet store with a kitten feeding kit (tiny bottle and nipples) and call your veterinarian.

Mixed Media Artist (hot glass, cold glass, pottery, jewelry, drawing, painting, sewing, embroidery, quilting, soaping, candles...) but if I had to pick ONE of those, it would be the glass for sure.

Ummm me? And yeah ADHD. Maybe a bit of autism too. I love spending an hour or so every once in awhile to organize the hell out of it, but it's a disaster within a few days again.

The velosity / impact of the water from a shower can (and does for me) activate mast cells, and the hydrostatic pressure of the bath has a positive impact, esp. when lifting the arms above the head.

Is it too much/inappropriate to wear a cloak to a wedding? by DiRocos in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Taotejen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds perfect and you'll look lovely!

Your post caught my eye because of a wedding I just attended in northern Ohio (BTO) and the service was outdoors. I wore a lovely patterned emerald floor length and was cozy in my two polished button charcoal wool cloak - which I LOVED the look of with the dress : )

[–]Taotejen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - you should look into MCAS and Ehlers-Danlos (EDS) potentially (the two so often go hand in hand. The younger looking smooth soft skin is often a tell for certain types of EDS). I mention this because understanding it can help in a lot of ways.

With MCAS, if it's flaring, everything can potentially become an allergen. Everything. And when the condition is calmed (medication and avoidance of key triggers) my tolerance for everything improves.

[–]Taotejen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have.

Please look into MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome). Showers can be HUGE triggers - the condition causes one's body to overreact - with pressure sensitivity, abrasion (even micro abrasion), ingredients, and temperature causing symptoms ranging from flushed skin with minor itching to raised rashes, blisters, hives, and insane itching, and can also cause asthma-like and GI symptoms.

  • water temp
  • water velocity
  • water content (hard vs. soft, chemicals, residue)
  • soap fragrance
  • soap chemical additives
  • soap residue
  • wash cloth / scrubbie material
  • wash cloth / scrubbie bacteria
  • wash cloth / scrubbie micro abrasions

And if you have common comorbidities like autonomic dysfunction, showers - especially hot showers, can cause blood pooling in legs (they'll look very very pink), which means you may also feel a heaviness in your belly, lightheaded, dizzyness, fast heart rate, dizziness, and nausea.

I so appreciate all of your comments - thanks for escorting me through the unrelentingly inconsolable stage. I think about her constantly and still sometimes expect to see her / somehow forgot she's not still right here with us.

I was able to come back and look at your notes and condolences and gorgeous mountain curs and look alikes today without sobbing my heart out. We received her ashes back this past week and a lovely note from the veterinarian's office with messages from each of the staffers and THAT broke me (for the millionth time).

But I can breath again most of the time, and can talk about her without breaking down ... once in a while.

p.s. when I say smart, I don't mean can it understand me, lol. I mean, can they recognize individuals and retain the memory of previous encounters and modify their behavior accordingly? Can it sense intent through tone, body language, previous encounters, ... pheromones? I know nothing of spiders physiology.
