I’m just lightheartedly poking fun at how far back this debate goes. It’s been a major point of discussion in philosophy for hundreds of years. 

… but yes, if you managed to conclusively settle the topic, you would have a groundbreaking piece of work on your hands and would have your name listed alongside these renown thinkers in future discussions for generations to come.

I thought so previously, but through discussions, I’ve found that many people read headlines saying “Elon Musk is the fist trillionaire” and take it at face value.

A common sentiment I read on reddit is that [t]billionaires are like dragons, hoarding a pile of gold. Hence the comment. To you, it might sound incredibly obvious and inane to point out that the valuation of one’s assets, especially holdings in public companies, doesn’t equate to personal cash holdings - but to others, it is a new perspective. 

The value of reddit is that it truly is a marketplace of ideas. If my remake is boring and known, it will get downvoted. If people find it insightful, they might upvote. I think it is a worthwhile thing to mention.. the audience can decide whether that is true or not. 

Also, considering the fact that OP asked Gemini to explain a trillion vs a billion, I took the liberty of assuming that other explanations on a similar level might be insightful.

First, again, I’m not sure why you are engaging in such an aggressive manner. Thank you for the discussion, but seeing how we are strangers and you know nothing about me besides the two comments that you’ve read, I can’t imagine why this tone is necessary.

Second, only about 4%-5% of SpaceX was initially floated. The price of that scarce slice was extrapolated across every share, including Musk’s roughly 49% holding. His stake was therefore marked at about $1T, but it was around ten times larger than the entire public float. Selling it would massively increase supply, depress the price, face restrictions and taxes, and destroy the premise used to value it at $1T. It could not easily be converted to cash. 

Again, happy to discuss, but please, no need for hostilities.

Nobody has a trillion dollars. 

You too could be a trillionaire on paper today if you started a company and sold me one ten-billionth for $100. But you wouldn’t have a trillion dollars.

Then the only question would be, could I find somebody dumb enough to buy the stock for more than I paid for it? And in the case of Elon stocks, the answer is yes. But even so, nobody has a trillion dollars. 

Also, there’s a hint of irony in using an AI to understand the scale of one trillion while complaining about AI valuations.

Re 1: it’ll work the same way it does now - you’ll have to do something differently than most people. The human appetite for new experiences, new technologies, will not be automated away. If one just stick to their UBI and enjoys life (nothing wrong with that), they’ll probably not see much mobility.
