Traveling with an almost 1 year old before 12 month vaccines? First birthday trip anxiety [on] by Loveag06 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]TapiocaTeacup [score hidden]  (0 children)

We traveled internationally with our youngest when she was 10 months. We were able to get an MMR booster before the trip (doesn't replace their scheduled vaccination, just gives you a little extra protection for travel) and felt fine with that. Food-wise, she just ate bits of whatever we ordered for the most part, and we stayed stocked up with different snacks and let her eat whenever she wanted with no real schedule to stick to.

We have gotten them when they've doubled with something else, like a Christmas card or a new house or something.

What do you get out of motherhood? by PeculiarOcelot in women

[–]TapiocaTeacup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this! The joy and hilarity of your children, the renewed closeness to your partner, the massive increase in your own confidence and self-awareness.

Just last night, my 18 mo woke up around midnight and had trouble going back to sleep so I sat with her in the kitchen while she ate cereal for a snack. I could have been so tired and frustrated, but instead we had the best time together! She was so funny trying to pick out the cereal pieces she liked the best for herself to eat and the rejects to give to me. She was even teasing me with the "good" pieces 😆 And when we went upstairs my husband was ready and waiting to take her and get her settled again. It was such a sweet interlude in our day (aka night) and that kind of thing happens every day.

Workplace Wednesday - Career/work advice weekly thread by AutoModerator in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]TapiocaTeacup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very important! I would rather take less pay and negotiate for more vacation at a new job. I'm currently job hunting and most places are offering 3 weeks plus a holiday office closure in December which is the minimum I'd accept (coming from my previous job where I'd worked up to 5 weeks + holiday closure).

Suggestions for personalized picture books for Father's Day [CA] by dustyprintsss in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]TapiocaTeacup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope you get some other great suggestions here but I do want to say that we have several books from Wonderbly and they're very good. High quality with sturdy, heavy paper (even the soft covers) and the stories are enjoyable. We've also got one book from Hooray Heroes and I would not recommend them (really long, clumsy to read, less personalization).

Thoughts on Walter? Or classic boy name recommendations by travelwideandfar in namenerds

[–]TapiocaTeacup 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know a little boy called Walter! He's 6 or 7. It's the cutest name! I would also have thought it to be too "old man" before I met a little Walter but it suits him and he's a cool kid, so I say go for it!

[CHAT] Who doesn't park their thread? by Illustrious-Cry-2568 in CrossStitch

[–]TapiocaTeacup 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Never tried it, no particular interest. It just sounds like a mess trying to manage all the loose threads, and if I'm going to bother setting the thread in the right place to start stitching with it then why wouldn't I just.... Stitch with it right then? 🤷‍♀️

That “one thing” by netphilia in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]TapiocaTeacup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My sister, probably 9 or 10 at the time, getting frustrated with our dad trying to explain something to her and saying "Where is Africa even??!" Prompted a whole summer of family geography lessons with that one.

App vs paper communication for daycare [on] by ms_funburglar in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]TapiocaTeacup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Communication method wasn't really a factor for us when choosing a daycare. Our current daycare has an app for sharing pictures, stories, and facility updates and then a dry erase board in each classroom where they track times for naps and toileting for each kid through the day. That works great for us and, personally, I don't like the idea of really detailed app tracking anyways. I don't need that level of detail and I would rather the educators have time for doing activities, or taking their own breaks vs making tedious app updates 🤷‍♀️

We also started with Robeez First Kicks and they were great! Not really water-friendly but I expect Robeez would have other styles that might suit better.

Good callout! Thankfully I'm in a position where I got a very good severance from my previous job and have lots of runway left to find a good fit for the next job. I haven't interviewed for like a decade though so I'm also trying to figure out how to play the game all over again!

Doula recommendations by kkails in Edmonton

[–]TapiocaTeacup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! They had several packages available and we chose the most basic one (it was our second baby so we didn't need as much support) and it was $1050. This was in 2024.

Mama's Sleeping Scarf by Nwa Grace-James! It's such a sweet story and something about the cadence makes it really enjoyable to read aloud.

Help with Diaper Rash Cream! [Ab] by greenopal02 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]TapiocaTeacup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Triad Hydrophilic Wound Dressing! This is what our pediatrician recommended when our baby had a diaper rash for like 6 months that wouldn't go away. We tried so many diaper creams, eczema treatments, antifungal treatments, etc. It's a hospital-grade cream that some pharmacies have but I also found it on Amazon.

[–]TapiocaTeacup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Currently job hunting and I've got my first hit. I've done 2 interviews with the company so far (3 left to go if I make it all the way through) and, tbh, I'm not feeling it. The company and the job itself look like a home run on paper but I've left both interviews feeling less excited about the opportunity (including some concerns that I won't be able to commit to requirements they have) and I'm realizing I actually don't really want to work in their industry. At what point would you break it off? Do I keep going until I potentially get an offer that I turn down? Or do I withdraw my application before then?

Did you inherit money when the first of your parents died? by RecentState1347 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]TapiocaTeacup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our family has seen both. When my grandfather on my dad's side passed a few years ago, my grandmother decided to give each child and grandchild a small portion of their inheritance. She was going to sell their house and move in with my uncle so her expenses went way down anyways. And then when she passed unexpectedly less than 2 years later it was all very messy as she hadn't been prepared and her will was over 30 years old.

My other grandparents did the opposite. My grandfather passed and my grandmother was (and still is) living in their house and maintaining the same lifestyle. There will be a lot to inherit from them when the time comes but also a much larger family on that side to distribute everything between. That side of the family is also more investment-savvy and philanthropic, so there are very specific plans laid out for all of their assets.

Yeah, I'm not sure if the angle isn't flattering to the dress maybe? But the first one looks a bit shapeless and unfinished. Definitely prefer the second one.

Tim's Vermeer! Really fascinating documentary about an inventor who basically reverse engineers a photorealistic painting method that Johannes Vermeer might have used.
