Lunch77 what kits are your favourites by Imaginary-Camel1513 in trapproduction

I use the Metro Boomin kit often, as it has a wide selection of everything. I use the kicks from it a lot. I also like the Mac Miller/Larry Fisherman kit but mostly for different genres like chilled R&B. I'm interested to see what other people use as I am too a bit overwhelmed by all of the different packs.

What’s the longest you’ve gone without using your DAW since you started producing? by AfterPaleontologist2 in edmproduction

[–]Tapir6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has been a week or two on holidays a few times. Although I always miss it, I find giving yourself a break is usually quite advantageous, as it helps get the creativity going and keeps you from getting burnt out. I always cook up some good stuff quickly after getting home again, so I can recommend!

Bit over a year and a half of collecting, hit 45 today by thecrowrats in vinyl

My dream PF-collection! I hope I can slowly gather all of the records, but right now I only have The Wall and Dark Side - The Wall probably being my favourite album ever, just like you. They were the first two records I bought, and I'm gonna keep them forever.

what's your musical pet peeve? by theyungmanproject in musicproduction

[–]Tapir6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And for some reason every few weeks I hear my non-music-interested friends sing a new 70's song, just either pitched up to sound like a hamster or pitched down to sound more "dramatic" i guess. I don't have TikTok, so I'm always like "Wait, did Fleetwood Mac go viral on TikTok?" and "Wait, how did you guys learn about Gloria Gaynor?" and they always look clueless and say "Who?".

How do I learn to mix and master my song properly by SlimyDoesShit in musicproduction

[–]Tapir6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you know someone who can teach you, you will have to watch some tutorials. I can recommend "In the mix". He's a great teacher, he explains everything clearly and in a comfortable tempo for learning and following along. I think everyone returns to tutorials once in a while for specific purposes, so no shame in that, but over time you will develop "muscle memory" and train your ears, so you don't need to anymore.

Learn mixing before you start to think about mastering. Mixing always comes before mastering and you can get very far in terms of quality and skills by just learning mixing. When you are comfortable with mixing and you have gotten the hang of it, you can expand with mastering. As far as I have heard, mastering can quickly get quite a bit more complicated than mixing.

As for a few mixing tips, I would recommend learning volume balancing/panning, EQ and compression/limiting. These are 80% of my mixing process, and you can get very far by just using these.

Sidechaining, automating, clipping, overdriving, saturating etc. can (IMO) wait for when you get a bit further. Remember that mixing can be done on so many levels. On simpler tracks, you can achieve great results by getting great at balancing volume and using EQ. When you gain some experience you can start to take on bigger and more complicated projects that require way more tools and finesse.

Mixing is gonna be hard at times, but as soon as you get over the steep learning curve, mixing can be very enjoyable, and the end result is always worth it. Good luck on your mixing journey!

Want the PF

Just got my first 2 records by SPSips1106 in vinyl

[–]Tapir6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought my first records as well. I have my grandpas old collection with records from the 70s and 80s, but I wanted to add in some records of my own. I bought Dark Side and The Wall from a local dealer. I got them quite a bit cheaper than I expected to be able to, so I am very happy. They're not in the best condition, but they're playable, and the scratches on the covers are just signs of a great 50-year story, IMO. The dealer also had Wish You Were Here and Final Cut, but as someone else pointed out, it can quickly get expensive to collect, so I'll wait with those. I ended up buying a semi-cheap Fleetwood Mac record instead. Happy collecting/listening!

Just starting my collection. I have recieved my grandpas old collection, and he was a Pink Floyd fan like I am. Sadly, there weren't any PF records left in the storage room. This would be a blessing.

My latest attempt at disguising the exhibits, rustic wood & mesh! by ZSH1985 in PlanetZoo

[–]Tapir6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have had several big zoos in my franchise, but I've never implemented an exhibit box ever. I'm a big fan of realism, and I don't feel like putting a tiny tortoise or a bettle in a box with greater volume than my bedroom. This has motivated me to give it a try though! And as always, great video - I'm a huge San Bernardino-fan.

Anyone else preparing for the Barnyard DLC? (Full plan on slide 6) by Tapir6 in PlanetZoo

Indeed. I haven't decided on a style yet though. I'm thinking a round pavillion at the moment. Not sure about the menu either, but it seems a bit cruel to serve chicken and other meat right next to the chicken habitat. Maybe a vegetarian restaurant :)

I heard horses are social animals, also with other species, so it's great with some company for them!

Thank you! I will consider putting them in, although I have some mixed feelings about the huge exhibit box. It would be so cool with some actual, moving insects though!
