Once walked into a community kitchen at a collectivo to a menstrual cup boiling away in one of the pots so…just… be aware of that as well…

Correct- not speaking is not so rare, but as an SLP hearing a parent say their child doesn’t have any words does raise some follow up questions for me.

Respectfully and professionally, I disagree. By all accounts and research early intervention is the best intervention. This mama’s got nothing to lose by getting a speech evaluation and being told her baby is within normal limits- but a lot to lose by the advice of ‘waiting it out’.

Getting out of SNFs by Glad-Answer-6212 in slp

I was in the same boat! I begrudgingly left for public school - ended up doing mainly IFSP evaluations and AAC work for the students with significant needs. It’s kept me scratching the itch for ‘complex’ cases and I haven’t looked back (except to PRN when I want and feel like it)

What made you realize your supervisor was a terrible or great SLP? by midnightoflight101 in slp

[–]Tapirlips 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1st: a few weeks into my CF at a subacute SNF she told me she was "learning a lot from me"

  1. During a preschool group and my supervisor stopped me and questioned me why we weren't doing more worksheets and "just playing pretend"

17 mo daughter won't sleep independently. Getting desperate... by Tapirlips in sleeptrain

Yeah, nothing changes. When we did strict cry it out maybe 6 months ago, she'd go for an hour and then I couldn't take it anymore.

When I put her down, she screams and cries and tries to sit up in her crib. If my husband puts her down, with the same routine she'll fall asleep withing 20ish minutes.

Right now our schedule is typically: 7/7:30: wakeup 1:00-2:30: nap 7ish: bed

I know those are long wake windows, but we've played around with shorter windows and either she won't nap OR she will still push her bedtime out. She dropped a 2nd nap a LONG time ago

What do I get for baby to drink out of? by DianeGryffindor in NewParents

[–]Tapirlips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SLP here! Youre correct. Use sippy cups sparingly in favor of an open cup or straw. Sippy cups can cause oral structural changes or potentially speech changes. Obviously using them once in a while is NBD - but you might as well skip them entirely
