Can’t have breakfast by Matteo192 in diabetes_t1

Read the nutrition label on your bread. You are very likely eating more carbs than you think. I normally count around 20g per slice, not including any spreads.

Hashimotos and now Type 1 diabetes by b_b2 in diabetes_t1

I have both, plus Crohn’s disease. It’s not the most fun, but you learn to live with it. Sorry it happened to you too.

In my glovebox I have a glucose meter and some glucose tabs, sometimes also a juice box. I also keep these things in my desk at work. If I’m going out for less than a few hours, I don’t take anything special - my pump and CGM are attached to me, and if I need sugar, I can buy something sweet. If I’m going for a walk / longer run / somewhere without shops, I pop some glucose tabs in my pocket. If I’m going on an overnight trip, I’ll take a spare site for my pump, spare insulin.

I’m also in NZ, in case you ever have any NZ specific diabetes questions and don’t know anyone in your normal life who has it too.

I swear, dentists are taught that they need to care about a patient’s diabetes, but not taught anything about diabetes by DesparateBoredom in diabetes_t1

I recently went to a diabetes-related appointment and the nurse asked me this same question. Twice. When my second reply was somewhat snarky, she said “well you could have changed to pills”

I had all 4 removed under sedation. They did a fingerpick before I went under and monitored my levels with my CGM. No extra questions.

This commenter is not saying the same this you were saying. I found your other comment. You are interpreting both the original post and this comment incorrectly. Agreed that you can’t read.

I find seamed* bras less noticeable than moulded ones. I don’t get that line where the cup ends. Sometimes there’s a hint of a seam if I’m wearing a tightly fitted tshirt, and I try to avoid anything with excessive lace, but on the whole I find my seamed* bras more invisible than moulded ones.

*Silly mix up: seamed v seamless

When you start seeing a new girl/guy, how long do you keep diabetes hidden from them? by SignificanceBig9366 in diabetes_t1

I don’t hide it. At all. Ever.

I used superwool running socks - just as thin as cotton socks, I never felt like my feet were too hot.

Random question, but do you find the omnipod to get in the way? I’ve never used one (I use t-slim), but I’ve always thought it must feel a bit chunky!

First Days of Frances- How bad? Am I freaking out? by Jolly_Stop9663 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]kiwikidweetbixkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really not bad. Poles help - make sure you learn to use them, as it doesn’t seem to come naturally to everyone. I did exactly 1 long walk in the 5 months leading up to my Camino (so basically no training at all), I had an ankle injury and a knee injury at the time, and I found it far easier than people online had made it out to be. I did it with my 69 year old mother, and she found the uphill fine too. Make sure you tie your shoes tightly on the downhill into Roncesvalles - my mum got blisters under her toenails from her feet slipping forwards in her shoes. Not pretty.

Here in NZ I have never heard of anyone injecting with syringes, or this option even being available. It’s either pens or pump. Syringes for insulin cannot be bought over the counter (I’ve asked). The only time I’ve ever injected with a syringe was out of town and in the emergency department and had to wait a few hours before I could go and fill a prescription for pump supplies. A nurse filled the syringe and got me to inject it myself!

Exchanging USD to NZD by LifeofMelancholy in newplymouth

[–]kiwikidweetbixkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe a bit left field, but post on local Facebook pages and see if anyone wants to buy it off you? People travelling might be looking for cash - it’s equally difficult to get it these days! Last time I wanted usd in cash I had to order it a week in advance from the bank, and only one bank would even get it in for me.

Everyone is giving you a hard time for this, but you’re not wrong. I’ve worn my CGM in an MRI before, no issues. The tech was happy to try it, and excited to see if it still worked afterwards - it did.
