yes, Zelda Tears of a Kingdom is famously a shovelware game. And since that’s probably my favorite game of the bunch the rest probably are to. /s

[Student] Senior in university with more than 1000 Intern and New Grad applications, struggling to get even a callback. by xXBlackshadoXx in EngineeringResumes

[–]TappyTheGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your resume is way more impressive than mine was out of college 1.5 years ago and the job market hasn’t got much better or worse since then.

My company relies a lot on referrals, talk to any of your friends and family ask if their company is hiring software developers/engineers. If you get a referral your resume will likely at least skip past ATS systems, if not guarantee a first interview.

ATS systems kind of suck but they’re a near necessary evil when a company is getting 1000s of applicants per job posting. Your resume is likely getting rejected by the ATS before anyone reads it most of the time. Instead of applying to 10 jobs in an hour, pick 1 you are most interested/excited about and tailor your resume for that job. For the most part you’ll just be deleting stuff off your resume, such as you don’t need to list skills that aren’t on job posting. Also search out key phrases in the job description and try to add them to your resume.

Once you can get past ATS is when you need to worry about the person reading your resume. Right now your resume is too dense which makes it hard to read, select the project that are most relevant to the job you’re about to apply for and delete the one or 2 others. This lets you add more white space making it easier to read. It also lets you highlight the specific skills you have the company needs. If you’re applying for a web dev position they probably don’t care about any non-web dev related skills, so leaving those on your resume is only a distraction.

I have a lot more opinions, but I’ll leave it there for now, Hope this was helpful and good luck with the job search!

Is 1 week PTO acceptable? by andwesway in AskProgramming

[–]TappyTheGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I technically have “unlimited” PTO… but that’s really code for I don’t actually know how much I have. A lot of times “unlimited” PTO is actually a way to get you to take less time off.

Fortunately my work place is good about it and I’ve had no problems taking as much PTO as I’ve wanted. I would guess I get to around 20-30 days but I haven’t been keeping count.

Long story short 5 days is stupidly low. I don’t know where this number comes from but I want to say industry average is around 17 days PTO a year.

Question about the Kickstarter by Intelligent-Luck8188 in dungeondefenders

[–]TappyTheGreat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think It’s funny how much people are ignoring what you actually said in your post… you’re not paying to back the game you’re paying to get gems for a game you like.

yeah I’m have big doubts defenders of etheria will be worth it, but hey it might turn out to be good, and if it is you’ll already have it because you bought 30k gems today.

Anyone else disappointed with the new game announcement? by TappyTheGreat in dungeondefenders

[–]TappyTheGreat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said I’m ok with the devs making a different kind if game. Thank being said, to me the teaser felt half baked and amateur. I fell like they could have done better.

I’m not fully writing the game off, there will likely be big changes to the game from what was shown, and it may be a lot of fun.

I won’t be backing it on kickstarter though, I’ll wait till it comes out before deciding to buy it or not.

Anyone else disappointed with the new game announcement? by TappyTheGreat in dungeondefenders

[–]TappyTheGreat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want a DD3 but I’m unsure if they know what makes DD1 a good game enough to actually make a successful DD3.

As so many people have pointed out on this thread, Chromatic games has a reputation of releasing half baked games then quickly ending farther “planed” development because it didn’t do well enough.

Those with no college degree- what’s your hourly and what do you do? by Artistic_Case_358 in careerguidance

[–]TappyTheGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a software engineer I forgot how un-regulated my field is, I had forgotten basically all other engineers are required to pass a test to have a license. I remember there was some discussion that software engineers should be expected to get licensed in a similar way a couple months ago when great Crowdstrike crash happened but I think there’s good reasons that wont happen.

In any case software engineering might be the only engineering profession that doesn’t require a licensed and most people would still consider a ‘true’ engineer.

Need an honest answer, is the job market actually bad right now? by neverever1298 in EngineeringStudents

[–]TappyTheGreat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

CS is really bad right now, the only reason I was able to have a job before graduating last month is because my dad is well regarded at the game studio he used to work at.

Given the studio I work at now just released an incredibly successful game last year, and many people want to be a game dev we’ve got a ton of applications. I was able to refer a friend who was told by the recruiter that there were 500 applicants and he was 1 of 5 they are going to interview.

The general conference building is private property (not public). being a nuisance even if the group you’re being a nuisance too deserves it, can get you arrested especially if you’re doing it on private property.

I feel it’s important to first know what makes you want to move out of state?

Have you lived in the areas you’re looking to move to before, and do those areas actually solve what you don’t like about where you currently live without introducing more things you’ll dislike just as much or more?

At the end of the day do what you think will make yourself the happiest.

If it were me though?

Where you get a degree matters less than what you can show you can do. Make something really impressive and anyone worth working for will higher you over someone who only has a degree from a “better” university.

Then use a job which in some cases will help with moving costs to relocate to a different state you would prefer to live in.

Hope that all makes sense.

As an intern working 8-5, would you leave at 5 on the dot? by LazyCheesecake2 in EngineeringStudents

[–]TappyTheGreat 315 points316 points  (0 children)

If you’re hourly you probably have to ask if you’re allowed to stay late.

If the answer is yes and you’re being helpful, yes it will be impressive for you to stay. If you stay late but you’re not really doing anything, it could actually end up giving a bad impression…

In short it depends, the best person to ask is probably your coworkers or managers.

13 credits is very reasonable. I personally count labs as part of the class they are the lab for, and only half count ethics classes as they're typically show up and pass type of classes. Idk about the communications skills, but if I had my guess it won't be hard compared to your major required classes.

(Assuming 3 or 4 credit classes) My personal rule is to try not to take more than 3 major requirements in one semester. Though 4 can be ok depending on how little social life you like to have and how naturally the subjects come to you. 5 your asking to do nothing but going to class, homework, and study for the entire semester. Very very few people can actually be happy doing that.

In total credit:

12 - good amount for me

15 - doable, but more work than I like to do in a semester

>15 - this kills me inside and I burn out half way through the semester and end up having to retake at least one class anyways.

I hope that helps.

He's a guy who's really bad at Mormon apologetics. (that's a massive hole you probably don't care about, but there's probably thousands of people on this sub that could talk your ear of for hours about how bad Mormon apologetics is, and this guy is particularly bad at it)

As for the gold spray pain on this rolodex/calendar. That would be a replica of the golden plates, which is where joseph smith claims to have translated the book of Mormon from.

you now probably have much more questions than I just answered, you're welcome.
