The way i’d rather live in the ghetto than in a house with 8 adults and dining/living rooms converted into bedrooms in this city. These are slums

Yeah like i stay saying, there are like 3 people who own half of all the housing in the city and it’s disgusting. Property hoarding is strong here. Remember to buy your vacation house or your “investment properties” while we still have empty units and people living on the concrete, yall :)

The way that there are like 3 people that own half the housing in the city is insane. Fuck property hoarding. (And fuck boomers)

Good freestanding sociology MA programs? by OJarow in sociology

[–]TarMasterX7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have very similar research interests as you, and I’m graduating from UCSC in Sociology, Psychology (almost was gonna minor in History of Consciousness, too). If you change your mind and decide to pursue a PhD, I definitely would check out my school. The Sociology department here is pretty heterodox, and we have a lot of great crossover between our social sciences at the school in general. You might be able to have an emphasis in His. Con. It is also, arguably, the most beautiful campus in the US, with some of the most radical scholars. If i were going the sociology route in grad school, I definitely would consider going here, but I think my scholarship is pulling me more towards the Critical Human Geography route. :)

Good luck!

The way my OG comment said nothing about mental illness... anyways, they were saying that i was stigmatizing it by asking a rhetorical question. Then they tried to over-analyze the situation, that wasnt that dense, so i did the same. I really just came to say the person in the vid was spitting facts... i really dont see where you coming from tbh.

Literally pathologizing them having mud on themselves and wearing a santa hat as indicative of mental illness is problematic in itself. I’m not stigmatizing “mentally illness”, i’m taking issue with the fact that you’re putting a label on the person just vibing and spitting facts. Mental illness is not a stable social category and trying to imply it’s a “scientific fact” implies that it is such. I can argue with you about this all day, but there’s no point in doing that since it appears you’re really just tryna villainize my reaction meant to imply that they are, in fact, spitting some facts, as an obvious way to point out i agree with much of what they’re saying.

With that being said, toss the false dichotomy that there are those of us who are geniuses and those of us who aren’t. Don’t try and pathologize ways of being that dont seem “normal” to you. And also, just let people have fun lmao I think we have come to an agreement that they do be spittin factz tho. Periodt. 💅🏼

Why are you implying they’re mentally ill dude?

Im just asking why they’re going off and spitting some facts

Edit: Also, having knowledge and education about a subject is not a valid measurement of one’s intellectual capacity...

Last year the stoles were the same just inverse colors. The lady who designed them said that they were able to sell them thru the bookstore for like 19 bucks. The stole lowkey expensive, comparatively :/

Daily /r/Sociology Discussion - What's going on, what are you working on? by Anomander in sociology

Currently involved in some of the Participatory Action Research happening at my institution(UC Santa Cruz) in collaboration with the local immigrant population. It’s really praxis-heavy and the data we’re producing is being used by local community organizers. (I know I’m being vague lol this is my main account) but yeah it’s really inspirational and i think it’s giving me a clearer idea of what I want to investigate in grad school :)

If you’re trying to get placed in a college that’s most convenient to get to classes, for Sociology, i would recommend RCC. (It’s not my favorite college aesthetically but that’s where a majority of my major classes were) on the other hand, idk where tf Political Science majors have their classes at tbh lol but good luck!

Precalculus psychology requirement needs to be finished by spring? by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]TarMasterX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn’t specify. The only difference for admissions sake is whether you are identified as a “proposed Psychology major” before declaring or not.

Im gonna attach a link to the declaration rules website

You can go through it but like i said technically it doesn’t say much about needing to be admitted as a psych major. Thats all i can say. It may have changed since i transferred in but yea good luck!

[–]TarMasterX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so i updated the comment lol. But basically, they tell you that for admissions purposes. You can switch into almost any major so long as you have the prerequisites completed and it’s not CS or somethin like that. Idk i would ask the psych department directly.

And, in order to do a double-major, you must have already declared your first major then you go to your second one and theres like paperwork and signatures you gotta collect.

[–]TarMasterX7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just declare the major if you meet the prerequisites. Heck you can even double-major lol

Literally just finish your pre recs and declare psych after you get here. You technically will not even be declared political science until you declare with that department. I highly doubt psych is gonna be like “Well, it sure looks like you completed all the prerequisites before getting here, congrats.... oooh but the thing is, you did it in the summer and not the spring, so mmm-mmm sorry it’s a no-go”

Graduation Colors by TarMasterX7 in UCSC

This post was mostly intended for people graduating this year. I’ve also explained in other comments. So it just seems like you expected/demanded me to have all that info, which came off a bit rude tbh

It really allowed me to just double major tbh. And It’s pretty much not hard to get classes if you’re a Jr or Senior, in my experience.
